Microsoft has recently attracted negative attention, notably for laying off over 9,000 employees globally. The tech giant has confirmed its growing dependence on artificial intelligence (AI), investing billions in AI projects, especially its Copilot tool integrated with Windows, alongside substantial funding in OpenAI.
Despite rumours of discord between Microsoft and OpenAI, the company remains in the headlines, this time over employee salaries.
Increased Focus On AI
According to a report by Business Insider, based on internal Microsoft documents, employees are being urged to make greater use of AI tools. This strategy enables managers to offer retention bonuses to those contributing to AI-related projects.
It is highlighted that staff working within Microsoft's AI divisions receive higher pay than their non-AI peers.
Salary Insights From Visa Applications
While Microsoft keeps its salary data confidential, visa application records shed light on the pay scales of foreign employees. These figures represent base salaries and exclude bonuses and stock options. Some salary ranges for various roles are as follows:

LinkedIn Hiring For AI-Focused Positions
Microsoft's LinkedIn page reveals active recruitment for AI-focused positions. For example, a staff software engineer specialising in machine learning can earn up to $336,000, while senior engineers in the same area have base salaries ranging from $154,000 to $278,000.

Machines might not be able to dominate humans despite the rise of artificial intelligence (AI) -- at least yet, after a Polish programmer defeated an OpenAI model in a head-to-head coding competition. Programmer Przemyslaw Debiak, better known as Psycho, emerged victorious after a 10-hour marathon coding stint at the AtCoder World Tour Finals 2025 Heuristic contest in Tokyo. The contest might have been the first time where an AI model competed directly against top human programmers in a major onsite world championship, according to a report in Arstechnia. Having already competed in several events prior to the big showdown against AI, Debiak, a former OpenAI employee, managed to coast to victory despite being 'completely exhausted'. "Humanity has prevailed (for now!) I'm completely exhausted. I figured, I had 10 hours of sleep in the last 3 days and I'm barely alive," wrote Debiak on X (formerly Twitter). "The results are official now and my lead over AI increased from 5.5 per cent to 9.5 per cent. Honestly, the hype feels kind of bizarre. Never expected so many people would be interested in programming contests. Guess this means I should drop in here more often," he added. The competition required the contestants to solve a single complex optimisation problem over 10 hours. The solution lies in using clever, often imperfect strategies to reach the best possible solutions within strict time constraints. While Debiak may have emerged as the winner, the AI model still managed to outperform the remaining elite human programmers, who had each qualified for the competition through year-long rankings. Social media users congratulated Debiak on his victory and asked him to share the solution which helped him upstage the AI model. "Congrats! Looking forward to your analysis on the solutions if you get time," said one user, while another added: "This is much more interesting than basketball, tennis or even chess championships." A third commented: "You are likely one of the last humans to defeat an AI in a programming contest. This is a huge deal for humanity as a whole, even those who don't care about programming contests." With experts predicting that AI models will reach human-level consciousness, more popularly known as Artificial General Intelligence (AGI), in the next few years, Debiak's victory could perhaps be the last few instances where humans are able to beat the machines.

The institute will offer industry-driven courses in the AVGC-XR (Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming, Comics, and Extended Reality) sector. The institute, which was announced by Union Minister for Information & Broadcasting, Ashwini Vaishnaw, at World Audio Visual Entertainment Summit (WAVES) in May 2025, is backed by prestigious global partnerships and industry leaders, a Ministry of Information and Broadcasting release said. The inaugural academic offering includes six specialised courses in gaming, four courses in Post Production and eight courses in Animation, Comics and XR. Collaboration with foreign universities, global companies IICT recently signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the University of York, United Kingdom, paving the way for collaborative research, faculty exchange and global certification pathways. Leading global companies such as Google, YouTube, Adobe, Meta, Microsoft, NVIDIA and JioStar have committed to long-term collaborations with IICT. Their support encompasses curriculum development, scholarships, internships, startup incubation and placement opportunities. IICT, Chief Executive Officer, Dr Vishwas Deoskar stated that the vision is to make India a global powerhouse in the AVGC-XR sector by nurturing world-class talent. The courses are designed to meet global standards while being rooted in India's dynamic creative potential. The detailed curriculum is expected to be announced later this month. Sebi resolves nearly 4,500 complaints via SCORES portal in Jun
Agency: PTI Last Updated: New Delhi, Jul 20 (PTI) Capital markets regulator Sebi has disposed of 4,415 complaints in June through its online grievance redressal platform SCORES. The regulator received 4,959 fresh complaints in the month, and a total of 5,107 grievances remained unresolved at the end of June, slightly higher than the 4,563 charges that were pending as of May 31, the Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) said in a public notice on Friday. The regulator also highlighted that the average resolution time taken by the entities to submit the Action Taken Reports (ATRs) in June was eight days, while the average time taken for complaints under First Level Review was four days. SCORES, or Sebi Complaint Redressal System, is an online platform which facilitates investors in lodging and tracking complaints against listed companies and registered intermediaries. Under the SCORES 2.0 mechanism, complaints are automatically forwarded to the respective entities, which are required to respond within 21 days. If an investor is not satisfied, they have 15 days to seek a First Level Review. A similar review opportunity is available at the Second Level with the designated body and subsequently with Sebi, each within a 15-day window. Complaints are also treated as resolved if the investor chooses the Online Dispute Resolution (ODR) mechanism. In a separate public notice on Friday, Sebi said MCS Share Transfer Agent Ltd and Smartowner Capital Growth Trust were the entities whose investor complaints had remained unresolved for more than three months on its SCORES platform as of June 30.
