Why was the MLB All-Star Game moved from Atlanta in 2021 to now?
MLB HOME RUN DERBY ODDS: Who's the favorite to win it all?
Instead, there was controversy and the festivities were moved to Colorado at the Rockies' Coors Field. So if you're here, you might be wondering: what exactly happened that moved the game from Atlanta that year?
We've got the whole story as we get set for the 2025 MLB Home Run Derby and All-Star Game this week. Let's break it all down:
Why was the MLB All-Star Game moved from Atlanta?
Let's go back to 2021. It was in March of that year that Georgia's state legislature passed a sweeping law known as the Election Integrity Act of 2021. The bill had all kinds of provisions that limited voters even further in the state, particularly for voters of color. with changes made to voting by mail and the ban of giving out food and water to those standing in line waiting to vote.
Momentum began to have MLB move the scheduled All-Star Game out of Atlanta.
What happened next that led to the All-Star Game being moved?
Then-president Joe Biden said he'd "strongly support" the game being moved. Via USA TODAY Sports:
"I think today's professional athletes are acting incredibly responsibly. I would strongly support them doing that," Biden, a Democrat, said. "People look to them. They're leaders.
"Look what's happened with the NBA, as well. Look what's happened across the board. The very people who are victimized the most are the people who are the leaders in these various sports, and it's just not right."
With support from all over, from the Players Association to Barack Obama to the Players Alliance -- a group of current and former MLBers who focus on diversity in the sport, among many other things -- commissioner Rob Manfred made the decision to move the game.
What did Rob Manfred say at the time the MLB All-Star Game was moved out of Atlanta?
Per his statement
"Over the last week, we have engaged in thoughtful conversations with Clubs, former and current players, the Players Association, and The Players Alliance, among others, to listen to their views. I have decided that the best way to demonstrate our values as a sport is by relocating this year's All-Star Game and MLB Draft.
"Major League Baseball fundamentally supports voting rights for all Americans and opposes restrictions to the ballot box. In 2020, MLB became the first professional sports league to join the non-partisan Civic Alliance to help build a future in which everyone participates in shaping the United States. We proudly used our platform to encourage baseball fans and communities throughout our country to perform their civic duty and actively participate in the voting process. Fair access to voting continues to have our game's unwavering support."
Why did MLB then award the 2025 MLB All-Star Game back to Atlanta?
There's no good answer to that. It could be that the political climate changed, it could be MLB giving in after its original decision, it could be all of the above From 11Alive:
'I made the decision in 2021 to move the event, and I understand, believe me, that people had then and probably still have different views as to the merits of that decision,' Manfred said in November 2023. ...
Some Democrats were conciliatory after the announcement that the All-Star Game would return in 2025 — then-state Rep. Teri Anulewicz, whose district included the area around Truist Park, told 11Alive it was "wonderful that what (MLB) is doing is really correcting something that happened during a very heated time."

Athletics make decision on trading Mason Miller
Fans of the Athletics have surely seen the rumors of a Mason Miller trade. It makes sense that other teams would want the closer who can throw his fastball 104 miles per hour. But would the A's really trade him? Turns out, they aren't planning on it. USA Today's Bob Nightengale reported on Sunday that, "The Athletics have told teams they're wasting their time by even calling: They are trading closer Mason Miller." MORE: Former Yankees, Astros slugger reaches 500 career home runs far from home The A's still have club control of Miller through 2029. The 26-year old can be their closer for a long, long time. He hasn't been quite as dominant this year as last, but he's still clearly one of the best bullpen aces in all of baseball. The Athletics could command a fortune for him, if they want, but based on this report, that won't be happening. For 2025-26 Rockets, Shaq views Kevin Durant as a ‘more consistent Jalen Green'
'Definitely got a closer,' NBA analyst and former superstar Shaquille O'Neal says of Houston's recent trade for Kevin Durant. Count TNT analyst and former NBA superstar Shaquille O'Neal as among those bullish on the Kevin Durant era of the Houston Rockets. 'Definitely got a closer,' O'Neal said of the Durant acquisition. He spoke in an exclusive interview with RG's DJ Siddiqi. 'Should get them higher, higher towards the top,' O'Neal continued. 'I know they let go of Jalen Green, and he carried them last year, but KD is a more consistent Jalen Green. Jalen Green was too up and down for them to get to the next level.' 'Listen, if KD is healthy and shooting the ball well, they can make some noise.' Last season, in averaging more than 26 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 assists per game on elite efficiency, Durant earned the 15th All-Star selection of his distinguished career. The future Hall of Famer, former Most Valuable Player (MVP), and two-time NBA Finals MVP and champion turns 37 years old in September. As for Green (traded to Phoenix in the Durant package), the 23-year-old's inconsistency was on full display during the recently completed 2025 NBA playoffs. He had a team-high 38 points, 6 assists, and 3 steals in a Game 2 victory over the Golden State Warriors. In that first-round game, he made 13-of-25 shots (52.0%) and 8-of-18 from 3-point range (44.4%). But in the other six games of the series, Green never exceeded 12 points or 40% shooting. Houston lost four of those six, including a season-ending loss in a winner-take-all Game 7 at home. With Green as their top perimeter scorer, the Rockets were a good team, as evidenced by their 52-30 record in the regular season and a No. 2 placement in the Western Conference standings. But there were offensive limitations that ultimately got exposed in high-leverage, playoff situations. The hope is that Durant brings many of the same highs, but without nearly the same lows.
