But approximately a week later, a barrage of her old hateful tweets resurfaced and landed her in seriously hot water.
I say old, but some of her racist and anti-Islamic posts were from, like, 2023. Not a good look. She made a number of apologies, but folks online didn't seem to think they were at all sincere.
Since the drama, the Emilia Pérez cast and crew seemed to be distancing themselves from Karla Sofía. Her costars Zoë Saldaña and Selena Gomez both shared that the experience of the movie has been affected by Karla Sofía's actions, with Zoë publicly denouncing racist behavior.
The director of Emilia Pérez, Jacques Audiard, spoke at length about how damaging Karla Sofía's actions were in an interview with Deadline released on Feb. 5. However, when Jacques won at the BAFTAs a week later he gave a notable shoutout to Karla Sofía, leading many people online to question how the crew actually felt about the whole situation.
According to a source reported by Variety on Feb. 4, Netflix was distancing itself from Karla Sofía following the controversy and only communicating with her through her talent agent. The source also told Variety that Netflix was no longer planning on covering expenses for award shows — including the Oscars — and that if Karla Sofía chose to attend, she would have to cover travel and styling expenses herself. Karla Sofía was then notably absent from a number of major award shows this season, including the recent BAFTAs and SAG Awards.
But now, it seems like this is no longer the case. In a report released by Variety on Feb. 25, sources have claimed that Netflix now plans on fully funding Karla Sofía for the Oscars this Sunday.
According to insiders, the full details of her attendance are still being finalized, and it's still unknown whether she will be seated with her Emilia Pérez costars or if she'll be interviewed on the carpet. Netflix has yet to issue a public statement on the situation. However, there's been a ton of discourse online about the new development.

‘Matisse in Morocco' Review: The Light in Tangier
When Henri Matisse set off, together with his wife Amélie, for Morocco in 1912, he was 42 years old. He had taken up painting when he was about 20 as a bored law student recovering from a bout of appendicitis, and something of the convalescent's heightened delight in life—the sudden luxuriance of sunlight and warmth and bodily soundness—seems to have stayed with him always. Gradually he came to terms with an instinctive aversion, frankly expressed in letters and other writings, to the very existence of darkness, to leaden skies, dingy colors and muddy palettes. From such gloom the land of Morocco might prove the final liberation. In 'Matisse in Morocco: A Journey of Light and Color,' Jeff Koehler gives us a detailed account of the artist's seven months in Tangier. Matisse's first sojourn lasted from January to April. He returned to the city again in October of that year, this time without Amélie, who would join him later, and left in February of 1913. Morocco was in the midst of losing its already fraying independence to the colonial armies of France and Spain, but the tense and intermittently violent political situation attracted no notice from Matisse. His only reason for being in this sunlit, picturesque place, Mr. Koehler emphasizes, was to devise an entirely new approach to painting, free of the most elementary graphic and coloristic resources of traditional technique and able, so Matisse hoped, to entertain his most candid impulses. He was trying, in effect, to discard an entire pictorial vocabulary and replace it with a freewheeling approach that would share some cousinship with what he liked about the paintings created by children and autodidacts, about folk art and Persian miniatures and Islamic decorative textiles. Converting his corner hotel room at the Villa de France into a studio, Matisse worked furiously at his canvases (or, prey to debilitating anxiety, fretted with equal fury) day after day. Let nothing surprise you when it comes to professional boxing. Jake Paul is set to take on lightweight champion Gervonta Davis in an exhibition match on November 15 in Atlanta. No, you're not still asleep. This is a real thing. The two men traded barbs in the past, but that happens often in boxing with anyone of prominence. This one has gone beyond chatter as the event is set to take place at the State Farm Arena and it will be streamed live on Netflix. The exhibition matchup is already creating controversy and has some perplexed, given both fighters were headed down very different paths. Davis was seemingly headed for a rematch with Lamont Roach for his lightweight title following their controversial draw in March. Paul was in discussions for a potential mega-fight against former heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua in 2026, and the latter's promoter Eddie Hearn called Paul the frontrunner to be his AJ's next opponent. Instead, both men pivoted, resulting in a crossover bout that is destined to make money, draw eyeballs while proving almost nothing. Industry insiders, such as the Ring's Mike Coppinger expect the fight to follow a format similar to Logan Paul vs. Floyd Mayweather in 2021, with larger gloves and strict weight caps. When Mayweather fought Logan, the limits were set at 160 and 190 pounds respectively. Roach was not shocked to see Davis opt out of the opportunity to fight him in a rematch. Some critics see it as a questionable move for an active champion, while others note the mainstream exposure could boost boxing's visibility overall. According to Boxing called Davis a coward for his decision. I felt Roach defeated Davis in their first fight back in March, so a rematch made the most sense. However, this is boxing and rarely does the sensible trump the nonsensical. For Paul, the fight maintains his streak of high-profile spectacles. After talks with Joshua collapsed due to network disagreements, he landed another headline-making opportunity with Netflix carrying the broadcast. Paul's drawing power is unquestioned, but questions still linger about his willingness to test himself in the traditional pro ranks–despite his claims. I would have preferred to see Paul vs. Joshua in an actual boxing match. Exhibition boxing matches are usually not very competitive and at this stage of Paul's career, I'd much rather see him raising his level against other fighters close to his weight class in actual pro bouts. However, there is no denying the amount of attention this event will bring and that's never bad for the sport–at least in a vacuum. Hopefully, this is the last big-money distraction from what should be Paul's proving ground as a cruiserweight, light heavyweight or even heavyweight pro.
