Govt Dental College gets notice over false anti-ragging report

Time of Indiaa day ago
Nagpur: The Dental Council of India (DCI) has issued a show-cause notice to the Government Dental College and Hospital (GDCH), Nagpur, for allegedly furnishing false information in its official anti-ragging compliance report for the academic year 2024–25.
The incident happened during the tenure of former dean Dr Abhay Datarkar, who was recently transferred to Jalgaon.
The DCI letter, dated July 15, addressed to the present dean of GDCH Nagpur, alleges that the college falsely claimed that DCI member Dr Arun Dodamani personally conducted the mandatory Anti-Ragging Orientation Programme (AROP) on Nov 18, 2024. However, upon verification, DCI found that Dr Dodamani never visited the institution on the said date.
The college previously submitted clarifications in response to DCI's queries raised through letters dated May 5 and May 16, 2025. But the executive committee of DCI, dissatisfied with the explanations, described the act as "misguiding" and reflecting a "lack of seriousness towards the zero-tolerance-to-ragging policy."
Now, DCI has summoned the current dean of GDCH to appear for a personal hearing before its executive committee on July 22 in New Delhi.

The timeline of the alleged incident coincides with Datarkar's tenure as dean of the institution. The matter has triggered serious concerns about administrative transparency during his tenure.
During the last session of the state legislative assembly, senior Congress leader and former minister Dr Nitin Raut demanded an inquiry into the role of Dr Datarkar, alleging that the former dean was involved in multiple irregularities in recent years. Raut has called on the Maharashtra govt to not only investigate the ragging report forgery but also review decisions and functioning of the former administration.
The current in-charge dean, Dr Milind Phadnaik, declined to comment, stating that he is not a full-time dean and the matter pertains to an official DCI notice. Dr Datarkar is on medical leave at present.

Miscreants posing as kanwariyas to defame yatra will be dealt with: Yogi

1 2 3 4 5 6 Meerut: Miscreants posing as kanwariyas to incite violence and defame the ongoing pilgrimage will face strict action, including public naming through posters once the yatra concludes, Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath said in Meerut on Sunday. After inspecting arrangements and interacting with pilgrims along NH-58, Yogi said the administration had obtained CCTV footage of such troublemakers and would hold them accountable. He said miscreants were deliberately infiltrating groups of kanwariyas and indulging in hooliganism to tarnish the image of the yatra. "Troublemakers have resorted to defame this holy pilgrimage. We have CCTV footage of such elements. We will paste their posters after the yatra is over. Any attempt to disrupt the yatra or compromise its sanctity will be dealt with strictly," he said. Demonstrating respect for the pilgrims' faith, Yogi showered flower petals on kanwariyas in Meerut and from a helicopter in other districts of western Uttar Pradesh. "From tomorrow, lakhs of Shiv devotees from various states will carry water in the form of kanwar and perform jalabhishek in various Shiv temples. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like This warming mat is your secret to hot meals without the microwave! crazyproductz Shop Now Undo I heartily welcome all the devotees bringing holy Gangajal from Haridwar," he said. Objecting to a "media trial" of devotees, Yogi said sections of the media were portraying kanwariyas as rioters, which was an "insult to India's heritage". He said social media was filled with videos showing individuals in saffron creating ruckus, ransacking hotels, damaging vehicles and assaulting civilians, and claimed these were not genuine devotees but anti-social elements wearing saffron to malign the pilgrimage. "Where there is enthusiasm and excitement, faith and devotion, some people try to disturb celebrations and defame devotion and faith," he said. "While most devotees uphold the sanctity of the yatra, some anti-social elements are conspiring to malign it. It is the responsibility of every kanwar sangh and every Shiv bhakt to expose such elements. Do not allow them to enter your circle. Immediately inform the administration if you spot such people. " Yogi urged pilgrims not to retaliate if provoked and assured that the administration was fully prepared to take legal action. "No one should take the law into their own hands. The administration is there to act if any such miscreant desecrates the yatra," he said. He said that unlike previous govts that "created obstacles for such pilgrimages before 2017", the current govt respected the faith of devotees. "It is our responsibility to take this tradition forward with the same sacred sentiment," he said. The CM appealed to pilgrims to avoid littering, join cleanliness campaigns and ensure that no river or road was left dirty. "Shiv bhakts should walk with a spirit of public welfare and remain mindful of not causing inconvenience to others," he said. The state, he added, had arranged for drinking water, first-aid stations, lighting, rest camps and other facilities. As a preventive step, UP police have enforced a blanket ban on kanwariyas carrying tridents, hockey sticks or similar objects and on riding motorcycles without silencers. The entire kanwar route is under high-tech surveillance, including over 11,000 CCTV cameras in the Meerut zone, drone-mounted systems and AI-powered crowd detection tools. Over 10,000 women police personnel have also been deployed for the first time to man helpdesks and Shakti booths, with special focus on women's safety during evening hours. Yogi concluded his visit with an aerial inspection of the Meerut–Muzaffarnagar road (NH-58) and Chaudhary Charan Singh kanwar marg. Rajya Sabha MP Laxmikant Bajpai and UP minister of state Somendra Tomar were also present at the occasion.

HydraFacial vs Carbofacial: What's right for your skin type?

Dr. Rupika Singh explains HydraFacial and Carbofacial. HydraFacial suits dry skin, offering hydration and glow. Carbofacial targets oily, acne-prone skin, reducing oil and clearing pores. Choosing depends on skin needs. Akiya Aesthetics offers skin assessment for tailored plans. The right treatment at the right time ensures balanced, healthy skin. Both facials are effective tools for skin improvement. One of the most common questions I get in my clinic is, "Should I get a HydraFacial or a Carbofacial?' And I always say- it's not about which one is better, it's about what your skin actually needs at this moment. Both these facials are incredibly effective, non-invasive treatments that give visible results, but they're designed for different skin types and concerns. The key is understanding how they work and what they're best suited for. Let's break it down. HydraFacial: Hydration Meets Instant Glow HydraFacial is one of the most requested treatments and for good reason. It's a medical-grade, multi-step facial that deeply cleanses, exfoliates, extracts impurities, and infuses the skin with nourishing serums using a special vortex-fusion technology. What I love most about the HydraFacial is how gentle yet effective it is. If you're someone who's dealing with dullness, dryness, early signs of aging, or just feel like your skin needs a refresh- this is the facial to go for. It's suitable for almost all skin types, including sensitive skin. There's no pain, no downtime, and the results are immediate. You walk out with skin that's plump, glowing, and incredibly hydrated. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 5 Books Warren Buffett Wants You to Read In 2025 Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo HydraFacial session can be customised based on what your skin needs- whether it's hydration, brightening, antioxidant protection, or calming care. It's the perfect pre-event facial too- your makeup sits better, and your skin looks fresh and healthy. Carbofacial: Targeted, Clarifying, and Ideal for Acne-Prone Skin The Carbofacial, also known as the carbon laser facial, is more intensive and works wonders for oily or congested skin. It involves applying a thin layer of medical-grade carbon lotion onto the face. This carbon seeps into your pores and acts like a magnet for dirt, oil, and impurities. We then pass a Q-switched laser over the skin, which targets the carbon and gently removes it- along with all that build-up. This facial not only exfoliates the skin but also stimulates collagen, reduces oil production, clears out blackheads, and helps with pigmentation over time. I often recommend Carbofacial to patients who are dealing with acne, enlarged pores, uneven skin tone, or excessive oiliness. It's a great maintenance treatment for those who are breakout-prone, and it helps refine texture beautifully. Despite involving a laser, it's completely painless and requires no downtime- making it a convenient, quick, and effective skin fix. So, How Do You Choose? Here's a simple way to figure out which facial may suit you best: Dry, dehydrated, or dull skin → HydraFacial Oily, acne-prone, or congested skin → Carbofacial Sensitive skin or rosacea-prone → Start with a HydraFacial Uneven tone or pigmentation → Carbon Facial can help Need a pre-event glow? → You can't go wrong with a HydraFacial That said, skincare is not black and white. I often recommend alternating or combining both treatments depending on your skin's journey. You may start with a Carbofacial to detox and calm acne, then follow up with a HydraFacial to replenish hydration and repair the barrier. Final Take Your skin's needs can change with the seasons, your hormones, or even your lifestyle. The best approach is to listen to your skin- and treat it accordingly. Both HydraFacial and Carbofacial are incredible tools, but the magic lies in choosing the right one at the right time. By Dr. Rupika Singh, Founder - Akiya Aesthetics .

Man held for murdering daughter by pushing her into canal over ‘affair'

Roorkee: A 55-year-old man from Haridwar was arrested for killing his 18-year-old daughter, who was allegedly in an affair with a man from another caste, by pushing her into the Gangnahar canal in Manglaur, police said on Sunday. Pradeep Dhiman took her to the canal bridge on his motorcycle under the pretext of watching the kanwar yatra and then pushed her into the water on Saturday evening. Some kanwariyas caught Pradeep as he tried to flee and handed him over to police. Officials said the victim, a Class 11 student, was in a relationship with a neighbour's son. Her father, from Haridwar's Daluwala, disapproved of it and sent her to stay with relatives in Roorkee. Despite repeated warnings and his insistence on marrying her to someone within their caste, she refused to relent and continued to secretly meet her boyfriend. SP (rural) SC Suyal said, "Her body was later fished out of a barrage downstream. An FIR was registered against the man under BNS section 103-1 (murder). The accused was arrested and he has confessed to the crime." According to eyewitnesses, the incident took place at the new Gangnahar bridge in Manglaur — one of the busiest places in the area. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Is it better to shower in the morning or at night? "Kanwariyas were crossing the bridge on their way to respective destinations. Unfortunately, none of them present knew how to swim...," said a man, who was part of a kanwariya group from Meerut. The victim screamed for help, but the canal was deep and its strong current swept her away, he added.
