Rick Riordan hints final Percy Jackson book could be his last

Rick Riordan has given fans a long-awaited update on the future of Percy Jackson, but the news is bittersweet. The beloved author revealed that the third and final instalment of his Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The College Recommendation Letters trilogy will not be released until 2027. More significantly, he suggested that this may be the final chapter in Percy's story, signalling the possible end of a series that has captivated readers for nearly two decades. Riordan explained that the delay was due to his many other commitments, including the Disney+ adaptation of his original five-book saga. While seasons two and three of the series are in production, Riordan has also been busy expanding the universe with new stories, such as the upcoming The Court of the Dead, which follows fan favourite Nico di Angelo. These projects pushed Percy's concluding book further down the timeline, and Riordan was candid that he cannot promise more adventures for the son of Poseidon beyond this trilogy. The current arc follows Percy during his senior year as he attempts to secure divine letters of recommendation for college, aided by Annabeth. But Riordan has stated that he does not intend to write stories set during Percy and Annabeth's college years. He explained that his focus remains firmly on middle-grade audiences, noting that writing beyond that age range is not where he feels most effective. Fans have long speculated whether Riordan would continue Percy's story indefinitely, but the author stressed that this trilogy was always meant to be three books. He admitted that the idea first came as a way to encourage the greenlight for the television series. With the adaptation now secured and a wealth of spin-offs exploring other characters, Percy's journey may truly be nearing its end. As Riordan put it, 'I don't want to mess it up. My sweet spot is middle grade.' For many readers, the possibility that the next Percy Jackson book could be the last makes the wait until 2027 all the more poignant.

Jamie Lee Curtis TikTok video on Disney account sparks viral reaction and debate

Hollywood icon Jamie Lee Curtis has gone viral on TikTok after a video message she recorded for Disney's official account drew unexpected attention. @disneystudios A special message from Jamie Lee Curtis 💜💚 Experience Freakier Friday now playing in theaters. Get tickets. Link in bio. ♬ original sound - Disney Studios The 66-year-old actress appeared in a promotional clip for her new film Freakier Friday, a sequel to the 2003 hit Freaky Friday, co-starring Lindsay Lohan. The video was intended as a warm message to fans, coinciding with the film's global promotional push, but it quickly became a hot topic for another reason. Curtis, dressed in a low-cut denim top, surprised many younger TikTok users, who expressed shock at her bold look on the family-friendly platform. Comments ranged from 'Woah hey Jamie' to 'Why would Disney post that.' Others, however, were quick to point out that Curtis has long been recognized as a Hollywood screen siren, recalling her famous 1994 True Lies dance sequence. 'She's always been hot,' one user remarked, while another added, 'Some of y'all have never seen True Lies and it shows.' The viral moment comes as Curtis and Lindsay Lohan continue their international promotion of Freakier Friday. Earlier this month, the pair attended the Australian premiere in Sydney, reconnecting two decades after their first collaboration in the original film. According to box office reports, the sequel debuted with $29 million in the U.S. against a $42 million budget, and added $15.5 million overseas, bringing the global total to $44.5 million in its opening week. Reception has been largely positive, with Rotten Tomatoes showing a 93 percent audience score. Still, not all reactions have been favorable. TIME magazine questioned whether the sequel was necessary, prompting Curtis to push back on Instagram, writing: 'SEEMS a TAD HARSH. SOME people LOVE it. Me being one.' Just as with her viral TikTok clip, Curtis once again sparked conversation across generations.

Gal Gadot gets candid about Disney's 'Snow White' box office failure amid political pressure

Gal Gadot has said that political pressure on celebrities to speak out against Israel contributed to the disappointing box office performance of Disney's live-action Snow White. The actress, who played the Evil Queen opposite Rachel Zegler, spoke on Israeli programme The A Talks, where she reflected on the film's commercial failure. 'First of all, I have to say that I really enjoyed filming this movie,' Gadot said. 'I even enjoyed working with Rachel Zegler. We laughed, we talked and it was fun. I was sure that this movie was going to be a huge success.' However, Gadot noted that events following October 7 had a direct impact. 'What's happening in all kinds of industries, and also in Hollywood, is that there's a lot of pressure on celebrities to speak out against Israel. I was disappointed that the movie was greatly affected by that and didn't do well at the box office.' Gadot, who previously served in the Israeli Defence Forces, has faced criticism internationally. Lebanon banned Wonder Woman in 2017 over her military service, while her latest projects have also drawn protests. Earlier this year, filming of The Runner in London was disrupted, and her Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony was postponed following demonstrations. Meanwhile, Rachel Zegler, who has been vocal in her support for Palestine, is enjoying a career high as her rendition of "Don't Cry For Me Argentina" from Evita hit Number 1 on both the Official Vinyl and Physical Singles Charts, marking her second chart-topping release. Already a Golden Globe winner for West Side Story, the 24-year-old is earning acclaim across film, theatre and now music, with her live Palladium balcony performance hailed as 'theatrical moment of the summer.' Disney ultimately recorded an estimated $115 million loss on Snow White.
