A Look Back at Anna Nicole Smith's Kentucky Derby Style That Lives On Through Her Daughter Dannielynn Birkhead
Established in 1875, the Kentucky Derby became a celebrity sighting hotspot in the early 2000s, with Smith, Janet Jackson, Pamela Anderson, Kim Cattrall and others popular Y2K names embracing the event's sartorial fashion style. Smith attended the horse race two years in a row and featured the event in one of the episodes of her reality TV series, 'The Anna Nicole Show.'

Known for her eye-catching fashion choices and vibrant style, Smith debuted at the event in 2003, attending the pre-Kentucky Derby Barnstable-Brown party in a light blue strapless gown with sparkling embellishments. The floor-length dress had a fitted bodice and was paired with a matching light scarf or wrap.
For the horse race that year, she wore a navy blue outfit with a distinctive white lace or ruffled collar and cuffs. She's also sported a wide-brimmed hat in the same dark color as her outfit.
In 2004, Smith returned to the Barnstable Brown party, this time wearing a black backless dress with multiple rhinestone straps across the open back. The dress featured a dramatic plunging neckline accented with crystal embellishments down the front.
The next day, she changed into a springtime pink dress featuring a sequined V-neck silhouette. The look was complete with a matching pink hat, jeweled Christian Dior heels and a peony blossom purse.
Both looks from Smith's 2004 appearance at the Kentucky Derby were later loaned to the Kentucky Derby Museum in 2010 by her former partner, Larry Birkhead, who she met at the event. 'Larry was so generous to think of us and we hope that it starts a trend of displays that the public is excited to see,' Lynn Ashton, executive director of the museum, said via statement at the time.
Smith died in 2007, but her relationship with the Kentucky Derby continued through her daughter, Dannielynn Birkhead, whom she shared with Larry.
Dannielynn has honored her mother by wearing pieces inspired by or directly connected to Anna Nicole Smith's style at Derby events through the years. For instance, in 2019, while attending the event with her dad, Dannielynn wore Smith's 2004 pink hat. In 2024, Dannielynn wore a taffeta floral Badgley Mischka gown featuring statement sleeves and a matching belt, nodding to her mom's vibrant style.
Dannielynn and Larry Birkhead have attended the Kentucky Derby every year since 2009. The 2025 Kentucky Derby will be held at Churchill Downs in Louisville on Saturday.

Of Course Hailey Bieber Tracks Down Vintage Dior to Match Her Rhode Packaging
When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. Rhode is finally coming to Sephora. Sometime in fall 2025, you can shop Hailey Bieber's beloved blushes and lip tints at your nearest store. That's a move worth celebrating in back-to-back vintage looks, according to Bieber and her longtime stylist, Dani Michelle. Bieber arrived at a manager's-only Sephora event on August 5 to toast her expansion, looking every bit the CEO in vintage Dior. (She immediately posed for an Instagram pic.) Each piece was equally form-fitting, from the shoulder-padded blazer to the thigh-length mini skirt. Michelle has yet to clarify the outfit's year and season, but there's a chance it hails from a '90s collection, given Bieber's affinity for the decade. The model accessorized with pointy pumps, also in ivory to match the skirt set. Once fans arrived at the Sephora soirée a few hours later, Bieber took center stage during the presentation. While her makeup artist, Mary Phillips, painted her face, Bieber sat back and relaxed in her second vintage find, this time from Valentino Spring 1997. She sourced California consignment boutique Villa Amour Vintage for a black button-down blouse with wooden buttons and frilly hems. Instead of the mini skirt it came with, Bieber went with her trusty Magda Butrym capri pants: the bottoms that started the trend back in April. Saint Laurent Babylon Mules, which retail for $1,100, finished her on-stage set. At this point, Villa Amour Vintage is one of Bieber's signature spots for vintage shopping. She's been a repeat customer since early 2022, picking from their vast selection of Saint Laurent, Valentino, Versace, and more. Earlier this summer, Bieber visited Miami in a red mini dress and a neon green sweater, which debuted on the Versace Fall/Winter 1996 Couture catwalk. Like most Villa Amour picks, the duo looked good as new. Fans suspect Bieber will embark on a mini press tour ahead of the Sephora launch. (She's done so for her peptide lip treatment releases in the past.) If that's the plan, her latest looks set a high bar—one that Bieber and Michelle will surpass in spades. Natalie Portman on the New Miss Dior and Her Viral Rihanna Encounter From Paris Fashion Week
Every item on this page was chosen by an ELLE editor. We may earn commission on some of the items you choose to buy. After almost 15 years as the face of multiple iterations of Miss Dior, Natalie Portman has become nearly synonymous with the scent. She has fronted the French fashion house's eponymous fragrance since 2011, when she starred in the Miss Dior Chérie campaign. Now, Portman is the face of Miss Dior Essence, the brand's newest fragrance launch, and she's reflecting on her years-long collaboration with Dior. 'It's been incredible to get to be with all the artists and creators,' Portman exclusively tells ELLE. 'To really start feeling like part of that family has been incredible. You definitely have that outsider feeling when you start, and as the years go by, you feel part of it. When I go to work, it becomes like going to see family. It feels very warm and at home, like we're creating something together.' The new Miss Dior Essence, imagined by Francis Kurkdjian, creative director of Dior Perfumes, is a fruity take on a gourmand. It leads with juicy blackberry notes and elderberry and blooms into floral jasmine and heady oak. Much like Portman, the scent has evolved with the house, 'like a liberated girl who dares to wear the vibrant looks and fuchsia miniskirts now seen on the catwalks of Dior shows,' according to Kurkdjian. Ahead, Portman talks to ELLE about her earliest scent memory, which of her iconic characters would wear the new Miss Dior Essence, and the viral interaction she had at Paris Fashion Week with Rihanna, who declared her 'one of the hottest bitches in Hollywood forever.' I always think that what you eat is the most central part of your beauty routine. I make sure to drink lots of water, and I eat a vegan diet, which is helpful. I wash my face with Tata Harper cleanser; I use the Dior cream as a moisturizer, and that's it. Kind of simple. I love fragrance. I love the smell of products too. The Dior cream smells of roses; the Tata Harper has a very distinctive jasmine smell. Then, of course, I use perfume for different occasions. On a day out I might use the Miss Dior Essence, and at night I might use the Miss Dior Parfum. I remember being in citrus groves as a kid, and the smell of orange blossom is still one of my favorites. I love how concentrated and bold it is. It really has all of that fruity, woody, floral quality, while also being very feminine. It gives a strong personality while still feeling romantic. It makes me feel bold, daring, and feminine—it reminds me of being in love with love, and wanting that deep, passionate, wild experience. The music helps a lot—playing the music that's in the scene and being in these incredible locations, like the library or the rooftop. And then, of course, the scent itself helps me get in character. I feel like Jackie O. would wear this fragrance. Maybe Queen Amidala. Oh, it was such an incredible moment for me personally. I admire her so much, and I was shocked that it became something people paid attention to—I didn't even realize anyone caught it on camera. It was amazing to meet her and to have her be so kind. She's such an incredible artist and woman. It was a very sweet, very nice moment. I think I used to think of beauty as something to conform to—an ideal to please other people. Now it's much more about bringing out my own individuality and making myself happy, making myself feel good. This interview has been condensed and edited for clarity.

Every Cool Girl Is Filling Their Suitcase With This Summer Holiday-Perfect Brand
While many fashionably minded people consider autumn to be the best season to get dressed in, some of us are of the opinion that summer is actually sartorially supreme. In particular, summer holiday outfits. Cotton and gauzy ensembles that look best while enjoying a post-shower, pre-dinner packet of exotically flavoured crisps on a sun-drenched balcony in particular. And which brand did all the cool girls seemingly roll into their carry-ons over the last few months? Fruity Booty. A brand for the natty wine-drinking, Marseille-visiting and rock-jumping among us, Fruity Booty was worn by everyone from performance artist Charli XCX and entrepreneur Matilda Djerf to broadcaster Amelia Dimoldenberg and actor Deba Hekmat in the summer of 2025. Buoyed by it's oh-so-now embrace of bloomers, polka-dots and thigh-skimming hemlines, the London-based brand is chock full of the kind of pieces you can take from beach to bar with ease. Fruity Booty started off as solely an underwear brand in 2017, and since fashion is obsessed with wearing underwear as outerwear, it's perhaps unsurprising founder Hattie Tennant introduced swimwear and ready-to-wear pieces. The brand has a claim to sustainability too - working with deadstock materials, ensuring the eternal appeal of limited runs as well as a little less eco guilt. They also are big on community, bringing women like Ellie Bouhadana on board to host dinner parties and pop ups for their dedicated fan base. And, perhaps most notably in a cost of living crisis, most of their offerings come in at under £100. 'I love Fruity's playfulness. As a brand (and as a team) they have fun and don't take themselves too seriously while still making sweet and chic collections,' Chef Ellie Bouhadana and dedicated Fruity Booty girl, says of the brand. 'I love the ease of slipping on a Fruity one-piece with shorts for the beach and then replacing the shorts with a pair of jeans and heels for an evening look.' With a Y2K feel but plenty wearable, if you've got one last jaunt to the Aegean booked in, consider a few Fruity Booty bits to make that post holiday Instagram dump really do numbers.
