Wrexham are set to break their transfer record with a £10m move for Ipswich's Nathan Broadhead, sparking fan debate over spending by the club's Hollywood owners Wrexham have been given the go ahead to smash their transfer record by completing a £10million deal for Nathan Broadhead. The Red Dragons have been chasing the signing of the Ipswich Town winger for the last few weeks. The 27-year-old Wales international was understood to be keen on making a return to the Welsh side, where he started his career in the club's youth academy. It was previously reported that a fee of £7.5m had been agreed. However, the move was held up by Ipswich boss Kieran McKenna due to a series of injuries plus transfer interest in other attacking players. That changed when the Tractor Boys completed the loan signing of Chuba Akpom from Ajax on Sunday. Championship new boys Wrexham have now been given the green light to complete the purchase of Broadhead after upping their offer to £10m, as per Sky Sports News. The player is believed to be on his way to his native home of North Wales to undergo a medical. Once finalised, Broadhead will become Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson 's ninth summer signing after receiving strong backing from the club's Hollywood owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney. It will be the third time Wrexham have broken their transfer record this summer after initially forking out £2.1m for Empoli left-back Liberato Cacace. The acquisition of Nottingham Forest midfielder Lewis O'Brien then surpassed that figure after costing around double that amount. The arrival of Broadhead will eclipse that again in what will be viewed as a statement of intent in many quarters. But some Wrexham fans aren't convinced and have questioned the hefty outlay by the owners at a time when the club still doesn't have a permanent training ground. Writing on X, one supporter said: "I really don't want to be negative here but it's been over 4 years since the take over and we've still not bought any land for a training ground. These signings are unbelievable but long term success will be slowed down if we continue to not have our own base." A second fan posted: "I'm going to be controversial here but that is ridiculous. Yes, he is Welsh and a former youth player but that can't justify that price. If we can't find a better striker for £10m then we need to look at our recruitment." A third added: "Not my money etc etc but £10m for Broadhead? Mmm okay." Meanwhile, another said: "I'm not sure I can be comfortable with us making a £10m signing." Broadhead joined Ipswich from Everton for £1.5m in January 2023. He played a key role in the Tractor Boys' back-to-back promotions from League One and the Championship, before being restricted to just seven Premier League starts last season as the club was relegated back down to the second tier. Broadhead has bagged 23 goals in 83 appearances for Ipswich, but recently entered the final year of his contract. He missed his club's Carabao Cup clash at Bromley on Tuesday after reporting in sick on the day of the game. His move to Wrexham comes as they prepare to take on West Brom in their first league home game of the season on Saturday. Roy Keane showed a surprising soft side to his personality when discussing his daughter Leah's relationship with England international Taylor Harwood-Bellis - and now the couple are expecting Roy Keane is set to welcome a fourth grandchild as daughter Leah announces her first pregnancy with fiancee Taylor Harwood-Bellis. The couple have been dating for some time and after announcing their engagement last year, they are now expecting an exciting addition to their family. Keane has previously shown a softer side to his hard man persona when discussing Leah's relationship with Harwood-Bellis, who has 34 Premier League appearances for Southampton. The former Manchester United star discussed his future son-in-law during a Nations League match between England and Ireland - where the defender scored against his father-in-law's country. The Three Lions ran out 5-0 winners at Wembley in November 2024, as Harwood-Bellis scored the final goal with a bullet header. As Keane appeared in the ITV studio to discuss the game, he said: "It's bittersweet for me, this." After the Southampton star's engagement to Keane's daughter was mentioned, he jokingly added: "It's not done and dusted yet. Things can change very quickly in the Keane household, let me tell you!" However, the Premier League icon went on to praise his new family member's performance for England and overall in the top-flight. Harwood-Bellis' club Southampton - who now play their football in the Championship after being relegated last season - commented on the news, as they said: "Congratulations both!" Plenty more well wishes flooded the comments, and while Roy is yet to comment on the impending arrival, it is likely that the popular pundit is overjoyed at the news like everyone else. It was just last year that the pair announced their engagement, as Harwood-Bellis got down on one knee on a yacht sailing through Italy's Amalfi Coast. Pictures of the sweet and unforgettable moment were later shared online, as Leah wrote: "I can't wait to marry you." It is likely that the defender got Keane's blessing to pop the question, which many would think is one of the most daunting tasks any man could face. In-laws can be a tricky type of person to please, but having one of the most intimidating men in football as your newest family member is certainly something to make your blood run cold. However, Keane seems to keep his kind and soft soul for those closest to him, as he revealed on The Tommy Tiernan Show last year that being outnumbered by women in his home is "brilliant." When asked about the most difficult part of having daughters, Keane said: "No it is, brilliant. They're good, very good kids. No, they're OK. Listen when they get a bit older, I suppose boyfriends and that type of carry on, yeah that can be," tailing off to the laughter of the audience. The ex-United star did insist that he was a very relaxed person when meeting his children's other halves - which includes Harwood-Bellis - as he added: "You'd be very surprised. John Terry gives up on manager dream as Chelsea icon left 'baffled' after snubs
John Terry has turned his back on the prospect of becoming a manager after growing tired of the lack of opportunities that have come his way as he settles into his job at Chelsea John Terry admits he's "done in terms of coaching" and will not be pursuing a career in management but concedes he remains baffled that no opportunities came his way - especially when he sees some of the names in jobs. The Chelsea icon enjoyed a stellar playing career, winning multiple Premier Leagues and the Champions League, but that didn't open up any doors for him when he considered going into the dugout post-retirement. After calling it a day as a player he quickly became part of the set-up at Aston Villa, where he'd seen out his playing days. There he worked under Dean Smith and helped the Midlands club land promotion via the Championship play-offs. Terry then worked under Smith again when he took on the job at Leicester. He interviewed for roles at Newcastle and in League One but has now wiped his hands with it and is more than happy with the gig he's landed himself at Chelsea. He told The Sun: 'I'm done in terms of coaching. I'm enjoying my life, I'm working in the Chelsea academy. My role's a part-time role, I love working with the kids, I love passing on my knowledge and experience to those boys.' Terry has seen a number of his former England team-mates go into jobs, some of them at heavyweight clubs, despite having no experience. Frank Lampard was initially manager at Derby and then got the Chelsea job before now finding himself at Coventry. Steven Gerrard was handed the reigns at Rangers and Aston Villa early in his managerial career. Wayne Rooney has also seen numerous jobs come his way and Terry insists he was hungry initially, but has grown frustrated as doors continue to remain closed. He said: 'I absolutely wanted it. When I went into Villa I got great experience under Dean Smith and we got promotion, which was incredible. As an assistant coach in the Premier League and the experience I've had as a player and an individual captain in both Chelsea and England, I thought that would be enough to get me a job. 'I'm not saying a job in the Premier League or the Championship — but a job at League One level. I didn't even get a sniff. I had interviews and it was just 'you have no experience'. When I see some people managing today, it baffles me, it really does. 'In terms of 'am I frustrated', yes, absolutely because I have a lot of good attributes to be a really good coach or a really good manager but, unfortunately, that's not happened.'
