An injury to Chad Gable has forced WWE to scrap plans for a unique match at SummerSlam. The company will present its first-ever two-night SummerSlam event in just over a month.
Gable was recently written out of storylines on Monday Night Raw due to a legitimate injury. He is reportedly set to undergo surgery for the issue in early July.
Scrapped WWE SummerSlam Plans
According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, WWE had plans for a major gimmick match between Chad Gable and Penta El Zero Miedo. The bout was scheduled for SummerSlam.
The plan was for a Mask vs. Mask match. It would have featured Penta against Gable's suspected masked alter-ego, El Grande Americano.
The report notes that this match will no longer be happening. The on-screen angle where Penta attacked Gable backstage was used as the blow-off to their rivalry for now.

Injury Forces WWE Creative Change
Gable reportedly learned recently that he needed shoulder surgery. This forced WWE officials to change creative direction immediately.
The future of the WWE Speed Championship, which Gable currently holds, is now uncertain. A tournament to crown a new champion is considered a likely outcome.
Penta El Zero Miedo arrived in WWE in January of this year and has been heavily featured in a storyline with Gable. On the most recent episode of Raw, Penta suffered a loss to Bron Breakker.
Gable's WWE career has been defined by tag team excellence across all brands. He first gained prominence in NXT, forming the acclaimed tag team American Alpha with Jason Jordan and capturing the NXT Tag Team Championship.
On the main roster, he won the SmackDown Tag Team title with Jordan, and later the Raw Tag Team titles with both Bobby Roode and Otis, making him a Triple Crown Tag Team Champion.
After a poorly received run as "Shorty G," he reinvented himself as the leader of the Alpha Academy. More recently, he became the inaugural WWE Speed Champion under the masked persona of El Grande Americano and received critical acclaim for his Intercontinental title matches against GUNTHER, which led to his current heel character. She was very upset. I said, 'Honey, just trust me, the payoff will be great.' My daughter thought it was a game. She thought it was a fun little game. 'I told her, 'Daddy has a pretend boo-boo for the next few weeks. Let's keep that on the low.' First thing she did was go and tell her preschool teacher, Ms. Joy, immediately. Then, she had to tell me she told Ms. Joy and gave me the classic, 'Na-na-boo-boo, I told Ms. Joy.' I'm like, 'How am I supposed to live my life? How am I supposed to get this through. Focus. Kayfabe, young Roux, kayfabe.' Here we are, three weeks later, nobody went to the dirt sheets or the news. Thank you, Roux, thank you, Ms. Joy. It was an honor and a pleasure. Three weeks of being on crutches 'The payoff was more beautiful than I could have expected. 'Limping around on those crutches for three weeks was excruciating. That was painful. I went to the gym, I took my daughter to the beach for ice cream, I dropped her off at the preschool, I went for a nice steak dinner with my wife, Bianca Belair, and Montez Ford with the crutches. I did it all on crutches. 'It was excruciating. The crutches alone were painful. I thought I was going to get a shoulder injury, a real one, get surgery and go to Birmingham legit. I was getting irritable, my wife was putting up with me being grumpy. It was a tough one, but we pulled through and did it. For the greater good.' Bully Ray: Is WWE Blurring The Lines With Karrion Kross's Status?
Karrion Kross could be on his way out of WWE alongside his wife Scarlett. As the old saying goes, though, it ain't over until it's over. Following his loss to Sami Zayn at WWE SummerSlam, reports indicated that Kross and Scarlett's WWE contracts are set to expire this weekend with no word from WWE about potentially signing a new deal beforehand. Despite that, WWE Hall of Famer Bully Ray is remaining optimistic about this contract situation, especially given Kross' surging popularity. 'Personally, I don't think the WWE is going to let Karrion Kross and Scarlett Bordeaux go,' Ray said on Busted Open Radio. 'I think there's too much of an organic groundswell amongst wrestling fans. I think that there would be backlash against the WWE. It would be different backlash than we heard for R-Truth. R-Truth was our lovable guy. He made us laugh. If you were fans, you're like, 'No, no, no, you can't get rid of truth. We have fun with him.' Kross, this guy is like a rebel to wrestling fans. They are clamoring for him. 'You heard what happened at the post-SummerSlam press conference. They were chanting 'we want Kross' and that speaks volumes,' Ray continued. 'The WWE Universe likes Karrion Kross. They want him to stick around. They see something in him; they see something in Scarlett. Obviously, the WWE Universe is attracted to this guy. There's something about Karrion Kross that is resonating with the WWE Universe, but it doesn't seem to be resonating with the higher ups, or maybe it is. Are they blurring their own lines with Karrion Kross?' As Ray alluded to, some lines in WWE have blurred recently, with Seth Rollins' fake injury and subsequent Money in the Bank cash-in as a prime example. In Kross' case, it has yet to be seen if their reported contract expirations are legitimate or potentially part of another complex story in WWE. Bully Ray also shared his idea for how WWE could get Kross over in a huge way. Kross, a former NXT Champion, returned to WWE in August 2022 alongside Scarlett.
