Klang fatal shooting: ‘I thought it was a crow-shooting operation,' says witness after man found dead in pickup
At the time of the incident, a retail shop owner, a woman who wished to remain anonymous, revealed that the shooting happened so quickly that it was difficult for the public to ascertain where several gunshots heard at about 3.20 pm, were coming from.
'I was tying flowers to make a garland when I heard an explosion like firecrackers, then I looked towards a motorcycle shop which was just 20 metres away and saw several individuals, including the motorcycle shop workers, running towards my store.
'I thought it was a crow-shooting operation but that hasn't been staged here for a long time since many trees have been cut down (where crows perch), ... then I realised someone has been shot and killed in a vehicle right in front of the motorcycle shop,' she told Bernama here today.
The woman in her 50s also said that this was the first incident of its kind to occur near Taman Meru Utama in the five years she and her family have been running a grocery and food business.
Yesterday, North Klang police chief ACP S Vijaya Rao confirmed that a 46-year-old local man had died from gunshot wounds in a four-wheel drive Ford Ranger pickup truck, with a post-mortem scheduled for 9 am today.
When contacted today, Vijaya Rao said police were investigating possible secret society elements in the case.
He said several individuals had so far been called in to have their statements recorded.
'Preliminary investigations found that the victim, who was self-employed, was accompanying his friend who wanted to buy a second-hand motorcycle at the shop.
'He was believed to have been shot at close range, and a post-mortem is still ongoing,' he said, adding that the police were also reviewing closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage from the surrounding area.
The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder. — Bernama

Penang DAP to file police report over ‘illegal' Umno Youth-led rally on upside-down flag controversy
GEORGE TOWN, Aug 14 — Penang DAP will lodge a police report against an allegedly illegal gathering organised by Umno Youth chief Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh in Kepala Batas this evening. Penang DAP chairman Steven Sim Chee Keong called on the police to take stern action against Dr Akmal for his clear defiance of police directive not to organise a rally over the upside-down flag issue. 'The rally by Akmal Saleh and his group is a violation of the law and a provocation that threatens public order,' he said in a statement issued today. He said the police should take action to send a signal that such acts of provocation will not be tolerated in this country, especially during Merdeka month which should promote unity, not division. Sim said Penang police chief Datuk Azizee Ismail had urged all parties not to gather at Kepala Batas today, but they ignored it. 'As part of the state government, Penang DAP fully respected the police's directives and did not mobilise our members or supporters to take part in the gathering,' he said. He said only local representatives were present to distribute the Jalur Gemilang in conjunction with Merdeka celebrations to foster patriotism and strengthen unity. Earlier this evening, Dr Akmal led approximately 200 people in a 1.4km march to the hardware shop in Kepala Batas over the upside-down flag issue. Dr Akmal had reportedly claimed that they only wanted to send a clear message about respecting the Jalur Gemilang and that it cannot be hung upside down. Earlier today, Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail had advised for the gathering to be called off as it could threaten public safety and well-being. 'To safeguard the safety of the local community and to prevent any form of unhealthy confrontation between opposing groups, PDRM advises all parties involved to cancel the planned gathering,' he said. Some of the shops in the area shuttered early to avoid being caught in the gathering. There was also heavy police presence in the area to control the crowd. The controversy arose after the hardware store in Jalan Bertam Perdana recently went viral for flying the national flag upside down. The 59-year-old shop owner, who was arrested and investigated over the incident, reportedly said it was an unintentional mistake while measuring the flagpole and that he had corrected the mistake later. Following the controversy, DAP announced that it would sponsor a giant Jalur Gemilang for the shop and mobilised Penang party members to distribute 831 flags.

Pandan MP Rafizi Ramli's son was dragged out of their family car and stabbed with a syringe at a Putrajaya shopping mall yesterday afternoon. KUALA LUMPUR : Former economy minister Rafizi Ramli today said that his 12-year-old son would have to undergo six months of medical tests to rule out the possibility that he was injected with anything dangerous during an attack at a Putrajaya mall yesterday. The Pandan MP said doctors and police had yet to determine what the syringe contained, prompting a series of blood and food tests as well as extended hospital observation. Rafizi said there were three possibilities: drugs or poison, which doctors had ruled out after observation; a virus such as HIV or hepatitis; or plain water. 'So far, there have been no immediate effects (for drugs or poison). I take comfort in that as a father, we can rule out drugs and poison,' he told a press conference in Parliament today. However, Rafizi said the possibility of a viral infection could only be ruled out after 'at least six months' of monitoring. 'We can only know after six months, and we will have to continuously monitor his behaviour,' he said. Rafizi earlier revealed that his wife had received two threatening text messages from an unknown number this morning, reading: 'Be quiet. If you continue, AIDS.' He said he suspected that yesterday's attack was linked to a case he was looking into, adding that he had met a group of whistleblowers just last week. According to Rafizi, his son was dragged out of their family car by two individuals dressed in black and wearing full-face helmets and stabbed with a syringe. The assailants escaped, while the boy was rushed to the hospital.

Man killed in Seremban allegedly had affair with suspect's wife, say cops
Negeri Sembilan police chief Ahmad Dzaffir Yussof said the suspect had no previous convictions for criminal offences and tested negative for drug use. (Bernama pic) PETALING JAYA : The man who died after being stabbed in front of a house in Senawang, Seremban, on Monday evening allegedly had an affair with the suspect's wife, say police. Berita Harian reported Negeri Sembilan police chief Ahmad Dzaffir Yussof as saying the suspect had become enraged after learning of the affair. 'Investigations found that the 28-year-old victim had become acquainted with the suspect's wife a month ago via social media,' he said. Dzaffir said the suspect had no previous convictions for criminal offences and tested negative for drug use. The victim died after being stabbed in the chest by the 31-year-old suspect. Seremban police chief Hatta Che Din said the victim was pronounced dead at the scene by a medical officer. He said police later confiscated a knife. They arrested the suspect with the help of members of the public, remanding him until Aug 18 for investigations.
