Cole Palmer receives hero's welcome in grandfather's birthplace St Kitts
The midfielder, born and raised in Wythenshawe, Manchester, is also proud of his Caribbean heritage, wearing the flag of St Kitts and Nevis – alongside the England flag – on his football boots to honour his family's roots.
The gesture has delighted Kittitians, who have taken Palmer into their hearts, with his 'cold' goal celebration copied by schoolchildren across the island, which has a population of just 47,600.

He was met by the deputy prime minister of St Kitts and Nevis, Geoffrey Hanley, and tourism minister Marsha T Henderson, on arrival at the airport on Monday night and, alongside a troupe of traditional Masquerade performers, Palmer and his family were given an authentic Kittitian welcome.
Palmer said: 'Landing in St Kitts off the back of winning the Club World Cup felt really special.
'It's where my grandad's love for football started. The island's beautiful and really chilled. I can't wait to explore the mountains, rainforest and sea – and to try out the food.'
St Kitts and Nevis Prime Minister Terrance Drew said: 'Cole Palmer's visit to St Kitts and Nevis is a powerful reminder of the strength and pride of our diaspora.
'His presence and mentorship will inspire the next generation to believe that global success is possible, no matter where you come from.
'We are proud to welcome him home and deeply grateful for his commitment to our young people and to the development of sports in our federation.'
Ms Henderson said: 'It's an honour to welcome Cole Palmer and his family to St Kitts. The Palmers already have a special connection to the island and that will only grow as they spend time exploring our lush rainforests, picturesque mountains and stunning waters, and savouring our rich culture and cuisine.'

He was still six shots back at the turn but a double-bogey at the 10th, where he mis-hit a chip, represented the end of his challenge despite two more birdies coming home to finish seventh on 10 under, seven behind Scheffler. 'I felt like I did well. Eight, nine and and 10 were the ones that killed me – not that I was ever going to get to 17-under I don't think,' he added. 'I could have maybe finished second, which would have been better than where I did finish, but only making par off those tee shots on eight and nine and then the double off of 10 after the flier did me in. 'Then I just tried to play a good back nine and finish as well as I could.'

Manchester United are keen to add a centre-forward to their new-look front line, which will contain Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, and have considered a move for Nicolas Jackson Manchester United have reportedly held talks with Nicolas Jackson's agent to explore the possibility of a transfer for the Chelsea striker. United are trying to overhaul their squad in the summer transfer window and want to sign a striker for Ruben Amorim. United have already signed Matheus Cunha for £62.5million from Wolves and are close to announcing the £70m capture of Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford. Mbeumo underwent his medical on Sunday and should be signed in time to join United on their pre-season tour of the United States – but the club aren't done yet in the transfer window. They have tried to hijack Viktor Gyokeres' move from Sporting Lisbon to Arsenal with a last-gasp bid. United have tabled an offer worth between €70-80million (£60-69m), according to reports in Portugal. Amorim wants a centre-forward to provide competition for Rasmus Hojlund, who managed just 10 goals in 52 games across all competitions last season. And United are scouring the market for opportunities, with BBC Sport reporting that a meeting has taken place with Jackson's agent Ali Barat. Jackson suddenly finds himself in a difficult position at Chelsea, who have signed Liam Delap and Joao Pedro this summer. Both made positive impressions during the Blues' successful Club World Cup campaign and Jackson is considering his options. Recent reports have suggested that Chelsea are not particularly keen to sell the Senegal international. They have slapped a £100m price tag on the 24-year-old, who was Enzo Maresca's primary centre-forward as they finished fourth and won the Conference League in 2024/25. In true Chelsea fashion, Jackson is under contract until June 2033, having signed for £32m from Villarreal in 2023.
