MasterChef is back on TV screens with its 21st series after its hosts have been embroiled with controversies. Yet another MasterChef controversy has arisen as viewers spotted the awkward moment TV bosses edited out a contestant from the cooking show. Long-time hosts Gregg Wallace and John Torode were axed following individual controversies of sexual misconduct and racism respectively, but the new series is still airing on the BBC. More than 40 historic complaints made against Wallace have been upheld according to a report, along with a claim that Torode once used a racist term, which he denies, reports the Express. Despite the backlash from fans to cancel the show, producers decided to air series 21 featuring both previous hosts, which had already been filmed. During Wednesday, August 13's episode- the fourth in the series - five amateur cooks entered the BBC kitchen rather than the usual six, which was met with suspicion from fans. The long shot of the group walking into the studio raised a few eyebrows after the show diverted from its usual format, instead featuring close ups of their faces or in pairs. Once inside, John and Gregg explained how two cooks would automatically go through to the next round after cooking their opening first dish. The two men in the competition – Sam and Trevor – made it through to the next round, leaving the three women – Hazel, Aileen, and Marcella – to compete again. After cooking a second dish, the remaining chefs returned to the room, but the footage abruptly cut after Hazel walked in behind Marcella and Aileen. As John revealed who the remaining two chefs would be going through to the final round, the camera shots remained closely cropped to each of the three women, rather than the wider shots that are typical of the show. Marcella was chosen first, before John announced Hazel's name. But in a bizarre moment, Hazel – who was at the end of the line – looked to her left and gave a thankful nod before looking to her right and doing the same to Aileen, who was in the middle of the trio. But as far as viewers could see, there was no one on Hazel's left that she would need to thank. As Aileen left the room, Hazel appeared to gesture with her arm to the left, before a big empty space next to Hazel flashed up on screen, making the interaction even more unusual. As it turned out, the odd episode was due to another sixth contestant's request to be edited out of the series because of its publicly shamed hosts. It didn't take long before fans flooded to X - formerly known as Twitter - to praise the editors on their hard work to seamlessly remove one contestant from the episode, despite the head-nod blunder. One user lauded: "Kudos to the editors of this episode. You would hardly have known that one contestant had been edited out." Another agreed: "I've just witnessed a masterpiece of editing" as a third echoed: "They managed to completely edit out Sarah Shafi! How was it possible?" Sarah Shafi, from Leeds, argued that airing the series sent the wrong message after the BBC sacked both presenters. The 57-year-old contestant claimed producer Banijay had offered to edit her out of the episode she featured in. But the participant dismissed the proposal and called for the whole series to be scrapped. Once the broadcaster confirmed the series was going ahead, Ms Shafi agreed to be edited out. A spokesperson for Banijay previously said: "As we said when we announced the show would be aired, this was not an easy decision in the circumstances and we appreciate not everyone would agree with it. "Banijay consulted with all the contestants before that decision was made and there was widespread support for it going ahead. The focus of the series is the contestants, as it always is. Harry Potter director reveals struggle to get support from 'suspicious' crew
Harry Potter director Chris Columbus recalled the crew's initial suspicions of him and how much 'work' it took to get their support. The filmmaker helmed the first two movies in the franchise, 2001's Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone and 2002 sequel, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. He most recently worked on the eagerly-anticipated adaptation of the Thursday Murder Club on Netflix, starring Pierce Brosnan, Dame Helen Mirren, Sir Ben Kingsley and Celia Imrie During a Q&A session with the cast at the New York premiere, held at the Paris Theater, host Josh Horowitz asked how he managed being an American surrounded by a group of A-list Brits on set – and he compared the experience to his efforts on the wizarding series. 'I had already been through it with Potter,' the 66-year-old replied, explaining that he grew up with a 'love of everything British', stemming from the Beatles and watching A Hard Day's Night and Help! 'I'm pretty well steeped in the culture, and I dealt with all the jokes and the ridiculousness when I started Harry Potter – the first two weeks, the crew was completely suspicious of me. '[They] thought, 'What's this Yank doing here?' I heard all the Chris Columbus, Christopher Columbus jokes… But then you have to keep up. You have to keep up a certain level. 'The thing about working with the Brits is you have to keep up a certain level of humor. It's self-deprecating humor, and you have to be as sharp as f**k. 'You cannot ever, ever… If you lose your step, you lose your step for the whole shoot. 'For me, it was casting all of these incredibly brilliant, funny people and just keeping up with them. I hope that endeared me to the crew the second time. 'It was a lot of work on Potter to get that support from the crew – it felt a lot more comfortable going back for the second time on this movie. I'd do it again in a second.' Chris jumped straight into another book adaptation – with a mostly British cast – for the Thursday Murder Club, which is landing on Netflix in just a few weeks. The upcoming murder mystery film, based on Richard Osman's best-selling novel of the same name, follows retirees who spend their free time casually solving cold cases – but things take a murderous turn when they are thrown into a real crime. Naomi Ackie, Richard E Grant, Tom Ellis, David Tennant and Daniel Mays make up the rest of the line-up. Speaking of the star-studded cast, Chris revealed that they were all the first choices for their roles – which had only previously happened when working on Harry Potter. He continued: 'The interesting comparison, ironically, is that on Potter, we made a list of all of our first choices – Dame Maggie Smith, Richard Harris and Robbie Coltrane – and they all said yes, and that has not happened to me in 20 years, until this book.' 'And it was Dame Helen Mirren, Sir Ben Kingsley, Pierce Brosnan, Celia Imrie, and they all said yes. It inspires you to only want to work with British actors because they say yes,' he laughed. 'It was a labor of love … because when I walked in the first day of rehearsal, when we were reading through the script, the four of them were sitting there, and it was 160 years of British cinema, and it's very intimidating. Strictly star La Voix commits to huge live show during BBC competition
The strictly singer is juggling a huge show of her own, alongside their appearance on this year's Strictly Come Dancing -taking her up and down the country this Autumn La Voix is just one of the fifteen celebrity contestants expected to star in this year's series of Strictly Come Dancing, and yet it turns out they may have made prior commitments. The British drag performer and singer, known for competing on both Britain's Got Talent and RuPaul's Drag Race UK, has signed herself up for yet another challenge in 2025. Although, as the news just dropped, it appears there may be a slight clash in the queen's schedule. Fans can get a hold of tickets to see La Voix in her huge UK tour, The Show Isn't Over, this November. It aims to be an entertaining evening jam-packed with laughs, performances and a live band, as she takes the stage up and down the country, with tickets starting from £32.25. It comes after a Strictly Come Dancing star pulls out of show as he makes career announcement. The event's description states: "Join us for a spectacular evening filled with electrifying all-live singing and band performances and a hilarious comedy show that will leave you in awe. La Voix's powerhouse vocals combined with side-splitting comedy guarantee an experience like no other. "Get ready to be swept off your feet by the charm, talent, and humour of this incredible show! Don't miss out on the opportunity to witness the best show in town! Get ready to laugh, sing, and dance the night away with La Voix!" It can't help but raise a few red flags, as fans of the dance competition will know; if you continue throughout the show, the final can take you right up until mid-December. The dates set out for the tour run from September 17 right through until November 5. Having come from a performing background, there's no reason to say that La Voix won't be thriving in the competition and, as those dates roll around, find it hard to commit to both performances. The shows expect to see her take on shows in Manchester, Glasgow, London, Brighton, Portsmouth and more. Meanwhile, fellow celebs showed their support for the drag performer's Strictly debut, along with excitable fans who can't wait to see her grace their screens once again. Oti Mabuse wrote: "ABOUT TIME!!!" You've been dreaming about this for years – I hope it's everything and more you've been waiting for." A thrilled fan also commented: "Is La Voix the first drag queen artist, or am I forgetting someone? This feels like a first. Imagine the glam and glitter." While La Voix is no stranger to a stage, she has opened up about her nerves for taking part in the 2025 competition. She shared: "I've performed for royalty, RuPaul and Simon Cowell, but nothing fills me with more excitement (and quite a bit of terror) than the thought of dancing in front of millions on live Saturday night TV. "Strictly is a national institution, and I can't wait to get started. All that's left to say is: good luck to my partner! Here's hoping they can help me go from La Voix into La Danse." But it appears that she already has her hopes set on being partnered with a specific dancer. Speaking to the Daily Star, she said: "I think I'm gonna do well on the entertainment factor. If you're asking me if my posture, alignment and arm lines are gonna be right, don't hold your breath. "But I'm gonna try my real hardest to nail it and do the ballroom fans proud." Speaking about which dancer she wants to be partnered with, she added: "I like the one with the big arms and the snake hips... that's all of them. I'm casting my net wide. Someone who can lift me up and show me off, that's what I want. "I like Kai. Secret inside knowledge, when I did my little dance trial for the show, I had Kai for my audition, so maybe that would be nice. He's a great guy, an amazing teacher."
