'Baton Attacker' Breaks Her Silence After Injuring Opponent
The incident occurred during the 4×200 meter relay at the VHSL Class 3 State Indoor Championships at Liberty University on Friday. During the second leg of the race, Brookville High School junior Kaelen Tucker attempted to cut into lane one during a battle for second place. As Tucker pulled out in front, she was struck in the head from behind by her opponent's baton.
'When we get onto the other side of the track we have to cross to lane one, you have to merge in, and as I was coming up on her she kind of made me get cut off a little bit so I backed away,' Tucker explained to WSLS.
'When we got to the curve she kept bumping me in my arm and when we got off the curve I finally passed her and that was when she hit me with the baton.'
The video of the incident seems to show her opponent, Alaila Everett, winding up and striking Tucker in the head with her baton, and the strike was so strong that a doctor later diagnosed her with a concussion and a possible skull fracture. However, Everett is insisting that it was all an accident.
"I know my intentions and I would never hit someone on purpose," Everett told Wavy.com.
Everett claimed that she struck Tucker accidentally after she lost her balance.
"After a couple times of hitting her, my baton got stuck behind her back like this, and it rolled up her back. I lost my balance and, when I pumped my arms again, she got hit," she said.
Everett says that she has since received death threats and been called racial slurs as a result of the incident.
"They are assuming my character, calling me ghetto and racial slurs, death threats," she said. "All of this off of a nine-second video."
After the race, Tucker expressed frustration that she did not receive an apology from Everett or anyone else. Everett claims she has tried to reach out to Tucker aftewards but has been blocked on social media.

'An action movie': Video shows man dodge stolen garbage truck in chase near Boston casino
Not even a stolen garbage truck barreling after him outside Encore casino could stop Lubens Figaro from getting to work — a bizarre twist in what was already an unusual day. 'It was like an action movie, with the police chase in the back, the truck driving, I'm recording and the cars behind, the sirens. It was crazy ... no one else in the middle but me and that truck,' Figaro said. Figaro, 33, from Everett, works as a substitute teacher for Everett Public Schools during the school year and as a security guard at Marcelino's, a Seaport cocktail bar, at nights during the summer. At about 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, Figaro was involved in a car crash unrelated to the Encore incident and went home briefly to regroup before his shift that evening. By 3:35 p.m., he was back on the road, heading to Marcelino's for a 4 p.m. start, when he pulled up next to a garbage truck at a red light outside Encore Boston Harbor casino in Everett. That's when Figaro noticed something unusual in his rear-view mirror: a man, later identified as Admilson Vizcaino, running through traffic. Figaro had no idea what was about to unfold. Within seconds, he'd be at the center of a chaotic scene he said looked more like a movie than real life. Vizcaino had been 'acting erratic' at a gas station earlier in the day and drove off in an SUV, which police unsuccessfully tried to stop and spotted again around 2 p.m. at a 7-Eleven in Billerica, according to the Middlesex District Attorney's Office. He crashed the SUV in Everett after leading police on a car chase that started at 3:15 p.m. from Malden. He ditched the crashed SUV and ran away. As Figaro was stopped right alongside the truck at the light, he first saw Vizcaino try to steal a black sedan, which the owner 'wouldn't give up,' then a moped. After that, Figaro said Vizcaino tried to steal a state police car, which was locked. 'That's when they tased him, and then he took the Tasers out and ran. Then he fired up the garbage truck — the one that was right next to me," Figaro said. 'I was nervous. I thought, 'He's gonna take my car next,'' Figaro recalled. At that point, Vizcaino was threatening the garbage truck driver with a pocket knife. Figaro pulled his car away from the truck and stopped a few yards down the road to watch and record the scene unfold. The garbage truck driver looked 'astonished,' with his hands in the air as Vizcaino wielded the knife, Figaro said. There was another waste management employee in the passenger seat who immediately jumped out of the cab, he said, while the driver was 'frozen' in shock. As Vizcaino tried to force the driver out of the truck, police fired their guns and struck him. 'It was like, 'pop-pop-pop,'' Figaro said. Despite this, Vizcaino was able to force the driver out of the truck and jumped in the front seat. Then, he began to drive the garbage truck straight towards Figaro. ''Oh, [expletive!],'' Figaro can be heard exclaiming on the video he took standing outside his sedan, as the garbage truck picked up speed toward him. Figaro hopped in his car and sped away, as he continued to film the chaotic scene behind. The garbage truck nearly took out a fire hydrant and skated over sidewalks with dozens of police cars on its tail and Figaro straight ahead. After a chase for several hundred feet, the garbage truck can be seen on video smashing into a pole. Figaro came to a stop again, and watched as Vizcaino tumbled from the truck to the ground and was surrounded by police officers. Not wanting to be involved or late for work, Figaro left without being interviewed. 'After it was over, I'm like, 'What the hell just happened?' I'm driving to work ... I'm like, 'What just happened? I almost lost my [expletive],' Figaro said. His family and fiancée were scared when he retold the story, he said, worried that he 'could have lost his life.' But Figaro said it was a rare case of being in exactly the right — or, perhaps, wrong — place and time. He described the incident as a 'once-in-a-lifetime moment,' and noted that he takes his job as a security guard seriously. 'I love my job ... it's an amazing job, and I had to make sure I was still there on time,' he said. Figaro added that if he had ended up being late for his shift, 'no one's going to believe this happened' without the video, which he credited his sister and his boss, Izzy Pena, for encouraging him to post. But despite the car crash, wild carjacking and nearly getting caught in a police chase, Figaro made it to work at 4 on the dot. Meanwhile, Vizcaino was arrested and is facing charges, including armed assault with intent to rob, carjacking and leaving the scene of a car crash involving property damage in connection with the incident, according to Middlesex County District Attorney Marian Ryan. He was in critical condition at a hospital as of Friday afternoon after being shot by police, the district attorney said. Police later searched the SUV and found a gasoline can that Vizcaino had been seen with earlier that day, Ryan said. Authorities are still investigating what he planned to do with the gasoline, but the district attorney described the presence of the can as being among 'very concerning facts.' Vizcaino will be arraigned on the charges at a later date, Ryan said. The officer who shot Vizcaino has been put on administrative leave, per Everett Police policy, Everett Police Chief Paul Strong said during a press conference. Suspect crashed stolen car near Encore casino, stole Republic Services truck, police say
A suspect is in custody Thursday evening after crashing a stolen car near Encore casino in Everett, then carjacking a Republic Services trash truck and crashing it on a bridge into Boston, according to police. The suspect crashed the first car — which was stolen from Medford — on Broadway in front of the casino after police tried to pull it over, Everett police said in a Facebook post. The suspect then ran away and carjacked the trash truck, but soon crashed it on the Alford Street Bridge, police said. The incident led to a large police response from Everett, Boston and State Police near Encore Thursday afternoon. The police departments are processing three crime scenes, Everett police said. 'It is anticipated that Lower Broadway corridor will be closed for another 2 to 3 hrs for crime scene and hazmat cleanup,' Everett police wrote on Facebook at 5:15 p.m. Republic Services' unionized employees walked off the job on July 1 and are still on strike. Encore casino crash suspect in critical condition after being shot by police, DA says
A man who stole and crashed a Republic Services trash truck near Encore casino in Everett Thursday afternoon was shot by police during the incident and is now in critical condition, according to Middlesex County District Attorney Marian Ryan. Everett resident Admilson Vizcaino is facing charges including armed assault with intent to rob, carjacking and leaving the scene of a car crash involving property damage in connection with the incident, Ryan said during a Thursday evening press conference. What authorities say happened The incident began around 12:45 p.m. when Medford police received a report that a person at a Sunoco gas station — who was later identified as Vizcaino — was 'acting erratic,' Ryan said. Viscaino left the gas station in a black Chevrolet SUV before officers arrived. Medford police asked other local police departments to be on the lookout for the SUV, and soon after, a Stoneham police officer unsuccessfully attempted to pull Vizcaino over, Ryan said. Around 2 p.m., the SUV was spotted at a 7-Eleven in Billerica, where a shoplifting incident had just taken place. Around 3:15 p.m., Malden police responded to an address after a relative of Vizcaino's reported that he was there, Ryan said. Officers arrived at the address as Vizcaino was leaving in the SUV. They then began pursuing him, but lost sight of him as he crossed into Everett. Soon after, Vizcaino crashed the SUV near the Encore casino, but kept driving it until it became completely inoperable, Ryan said. He then tried to steal several nearby vehicles — including a moped — but was unsuccessful. Vizcaino continued down the road until he came to the trash truck, which was stopped at a red light, and tried to force the driver out, Ryan said. By this time, Everett and State Police had caught up to him and began trying to de-escalate the situation. As he was trying to pull the truck door open, an Everett police officer shot at him several times and struck him. Vizcaino still managed to get the truck door open and struggled with the driver while wielding a knife, Ryan said. The passenger in the truck exited through the passenger side door, and officers were eventually able to safely remove the driver from the truck. Vizcaino then got into the driver's seat of the truck and began driving down Broadway, striking utility poles, fire hydrants and a scooter and causing other property damage on the way, Ryan said. State Police troopers soon deployed 'stop sticks' to deflate the truck's tires, and the truck eventually came to rest on the Alford Street Bridge that leads to Boston. Troopers and police officers from other departments surrounded the truck and arrested Vizcaino as he tumbled out of it, Ryan said. He was taken to a hospital, where he remains in critical condition. Police later searched the SUV and found a gasoline can that Vizcaino had been seen with at the 7-Eleven, Ryan said.
