Nexus with contractors? GDA set to transfer 76 supervisors
Ghaziabad: Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA) is set to transfer 76 supervisors following persistent complaints of collusion with contractors in facilitating illegal construction. Residents also allege that supervisors, working in tandem with private builders, demand hefty sums to overlook unauthorised floors. GDA has around 200 supervisors in the seven zones under it, but its manual does not specify a maximum tenure for postings before an employee can be shifted. Many of the supervisors on the list have been posted in the same zone for more than five years. Officials admitted that supervisors posted in the same zones for years had formed "unholy alliances" with local realtors, and said the reshuffle aimed to curb the spread of illegal colonies, which have risen from 321 in 2021 to 351, occupying around 3,000 acres. Supervisors are also tasked with checking the quality of construction materials and ensuring that all work is carried out in line with the approved plan. However, their nexus with contractors runs deep. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like A Teaspoon Before Bed Burns Body Fat - Fit Into Your Clothes Again! Health & Family Click Here Undo A Vaishali resident told TOI, a contractor allegedly sought Rs 40,000 on behalf of a GDA official to allow his family to construct an additional floor in their two-storey flat. "We hired a private contractor, prepared a cost estimate, and even had construction material delivered," he said. But that evening, a GDA supervisor reached their house and warned the family that the work violated regulations. Unsure how to proceed, the family considered abandoning the plan. "But the contractor assured me it could be 'managed' for Rs 40,000. Construction went ahead without further interference. Only later did I realise the nexus between contractors and supervisors," he added. According to a GDA official, despite checks and balances, illegal construction has been unabated in the city. "We deduced that many of the supervisors are working in the same zone for years and have developed a nexus with contractors, allowing illegal construction. This nexus needs to be broken, for which GDA has prepared a list of 76 supervisors who will be transferred to other zones." Revanth rules out vendetta politics, pledges focus on Telangana's growth
Hyderabad: Chief minister A Revanth Reddy on Saturday reiterated that he would not indulge in vendetta politics against those who targeted him while he was in the opposition, stressing that the mandate given by four crore people would be used solely for public welfare. "I believe in 'karma siddhantam'. Those who misused power against me will ultimately face consequences for their actions. I do not see anyone as an enemy. I am not a fool to misuse power for personal dislikes. The people of Telangana have entrusted me with a huge responsibility, and in fact, my victory itself is sorrow for my opponents," he said. Revanth was speaking after releasing the book 'Hasitha Bhashpalu,' authored by Sri Ram and published by eminent poet Ande Sri. Expressing pride that the author hailed from the combined Mahbubnagar district, Revanth said he intended to remain active in politics until 2040. Many poets and activists sacrificed everything for Telangana without ever claiming to be statehood leaders. Ande Sri never claimed it either. But some politicians, who now own media houses and amassed wealth, call themselves statehood activists. How can such leaders make these claims while profiteering?" he asked, in an indirect reference to BRS leaders. Responding to criticism over showcasing the command control centre and secretariat built by the previous government, he said: "For them, buildings mean development. For me, true development is when the poor live with dignity in their own homes and eat fine rice provided by our govt. I made international delegates from 100 countries sing Telangana's state song and witness the Telangana Thalli statue that represents our women's aspirations. Are these not achievements?" Reaffirming his commitment to people's welfare, Revanth said his vision was to make Telangana a $3 trillion economy by 2047 and a model state for the world. Police tap social media for awareness of criminal laws
Panaji: In a shift from its usual methods, Goa Police has begun using social media platforms to eliminate confusion, empower citizens with knowledge of the law, and strengthen confidence in the criminal justice system. This initiative aims to educate the public about the new laws implemented in the country. On Saturday, Goa Police launched a new social media awareness series to inform citizens about the transition from the Indian Penal Code (IPC), 1860, to the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023. Crime branch superintendent of police (SP) Rahul Gupta said the campaign will use creative awareness posts and reels to present the changes in a simple yet engaging way. The posts will be published in both English and Konkani, ensuring that legal awareness reaches every section of society. 'Citizens are encouraged to follow the official channels of Goa Police to stay updated and spread this important awareness,' Gupta said. 'Why is this necessary? The criminal justice system of India underwent a historic transformation with the introduction of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita, and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam.' Gupta noted that the changes are not limited to renumbering of provisions but include simplification of laws, speedy justice through time-bound trials, zero FIR, e-FIR, forensic-based investigation, gender-sensitive provisions, use of scientific and electronic evidence, and greater transparency. 'Popularising the new laws ensures that citizens are not confused when familiar IPC sections like 420 (cheating), 302 (murder), or 376 (rape) are now replaced by BNS sections 318, 103, and 64 respectively,' the SP said. He emphasised that victims, witnesses, and accused persons must be informed of their rights under the new framework, such as the right to know the reason for arrest, free legal aid, time-bound investigation, and protection of identity. 'Public confidence is built in the justice delivery system, reinforcing that the reforms are aimed at justice for people, not merely punishment,' Gupta said. TOI reported earlier that in an initiative without precedent, Goa Police are putting aside grey, bureaucratic warnings about cybercrimes and have turned to vivid content in vogue with the internet generation: Reels and memes, and droll comics-style narratives. Goa Police will engage influencers to develop and produce a minimum of 100 unique digital content pieces, including reels, videos, memes, and carousels. In social media, a carousel enables people to add multiple images or videos to one post. Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI).
