The Young Offenders is coming back for a fifth season
Which is great news for fans of the misadventures of hapless heroes Conor (Alex Murphy) and Jock (Chris Walley), alongside their long- suffering mother/guardian Mairéad (Hilary Rose), former nemesis Garda Sergeant Tony Healy (Dominic MacHale) and the unpredictable Billy Murphy (Shane Casey).
Created by Peter Foott, and based on his original film, the new six-part season will see Conor reunited with Jock in Cork after both spent the previous run in different prisons, in different parts of the world.
Now that the loveable rogues are back together, there's nothing that they can't do - although whether they're successful at it is a different matter.
The critically acclaimed hit show which has reached huge audiences in Ireland, the UK and internationally, set and filmed in Cork city and county, will once again feature Principal Walsh (PJ Gallagher), Siobhán (Jennifer Barry), Linda (Demi Isaac), Orla (Orla Fitzgerald) and Star (Rylee Hosford).
Peter Foott s says: "All the original characters who audiences know and love since the show started are back in season five.
"We have the funniest, most heart-warming stories in the new season that will show Conor and Jock getting into scrapes like never before.
"We hope audiences will share our excitement to have all the gang back together, bringing more laughs, thrills and moments to remember to TV screens."

The Young Offenders has kept audiences entertained since 2016 with the fourth season among the top three comedies across broadcasters for 16–34-year-olds in 2024 (excluding specials).
Casting for the final roles in season five is now taking place, and applicants can submit an audition at www.corkcasting.com.

Mixed reviews for 'f****** class' Irish crowd chant during Oasis Dublin show
Oasis returned to Ireland to perform for the first time in 17 years in front of a rapturous atmosphere in front of more than 80,000 fans at Croke Park on Saturday (August 16). This was the first of two sell-out shows for brothers Liam and Noel Gallagher, who dedicated their Be Here Now classic, Stand By Me, to their mother Peggy, from Charlestown County Mayo, who was confirmed to be in attendance for her reconciled sons' return. Oasis had already conquered crowds across Wales, England and Scotland before arriving in Ireland, but Dublin's atmosphere may have topped the charts. At one stage, during Noel's solo section of the gig, where he performed Little by Little, Half the World Away and Talk Tonight, the eldest of the band's siblings took a moment to soak in the crowd as they chanted 'Olé Olé Olé' in unison. (Image: Philip Fitzpatrick) Various clips of the crowd's chants were uploaded to social media, with many quick to praise the Irish fans for their efforts in the first of two sell-out reunion gigs. "Now that's Ireland," One user on X, formerly known as Twitter, commented on a 32-second clip showcasing the Olé chants, with Noel spotted on the stage's colossal screens taking a step back to admire. Not everyone was so complimentary of the 80,000 crowd's antics, however, with one viewer adding the Olé chant was "the cringiest part of every concert in Ireland," though another added: "Why do people suddenly pretend to hate this. It's f****** class when you're there." The popular chant is often heard across various sporting events, concerts and homecomings and its origin is widely accredited to the Italia '90 World Cup, where Ireland reached the quarter-final stage, eventually falling to the hosts. Composer and lecturer at Dublin City University, Dr Seán Doherty has previously commented on the tune's interesting history. The chant's tune comes from the 1985 Belgian song called Anderlecht Champion, which featured the French 'allez, allez, allez' lyrics instead of the Spanish 'Olé', which was formed the following year for the Mexican World Cup. During Italia '90, Put 'Em Under Pressure was Ireland's anthem for the tournament, during which "it got inserted into every Irish person's brain," according to Dr Doherty. Football fans split on new-look Match of the Day as Wayne Rooney makes full-time debut and Shearer goes on huge rant
WITH the return of the Premier League, it also meant the return of long-running football highlights juggernaut, Match of the Day. Mark Chapman - one of three presenters who will be taking over from Lineker alongside Gabby Logan and Kelly Cates - was in the hot seat for the first episode of the post-Lineker era. He was joined in the studio by usual suspect, Alan Shearer, and Wayne Rooney, who has signed an £800,000 deal to appear on the show regularly for the upcoming season. Chapman kicked off the proceedings with a joke about the changes, quipping that Rooney was the only real change before adding that Shearer was delighted to see Sunderland back. As it turned out, Shearer had a moment of choler on the show as he launched a huge rant about Toon rebel Alexander Isak as the Swede continues to try to force an exit. Advertisement Shearer and Rooney discussed the 25-year-old's situation, drawing on Rooney's own experience when he tried to quit Manchester United.
