'Purvi?' — a small check that meant a lot
At around 11 p.m., two women police officers entered her train compartment, looked around, and asked, 'Seat 38 – Purvi?'
Momentarily unsure, Jain confirmed her identity. What happened next came as a surprise.
'They stopped, checked whether I was comfortable, and asked if I needed any help. Then they gave me a helpline number to call if I ever feel unsafe,' she wrote in her now-viral post, which has received thousands of likes and shares across social media.
Live Events
She later discovered the officers were conducting a routine check on solo female passengers—a thoughtful safety measure introduced by Indian Railways and the Railway Protection Force (RPF) to enhance women's security on overnight trains. An elderly couple seated nearby were just as touched.
'Their granddaughter often travels alone. Gestures like this make them feel reassured,' she added.
'One Step at a Time'
Jain, a frequent traveller, acknowledged how things are gradually changing for the better, citing improvements like quicker ticket bookings, easier Tatkal verification, and better train experiences with services like Vande Bharat.
'We're not perfect, and we're certainly not yet on par with developed nations. But moments like this show real progress is happening, even if it's one step at a time,' she reflected.
The Internet Reacts
Jain's story resonated widely, prompting many users to share their own positive encounters with Indian Railways and law enforcement.
One user commented, 'Were we in the same train or does this happen on a daily basis? I was as well checked by 2 women officers while I was traveling from Mumbai to Surat last Saturday.'
Another added, 'From the post and comments below it is clear that this is not an one off incident. Certainly a very praiseworthy initiative from Indian Railways and RPF.'
In a world often dominated by distressing headlines, Jain's experience has offered a welcome reminder that small, meaningful efforts can go a long way in shaping a safer and more hopeful society.

3 New Vande Bharat Chair Cars To Launch This Week, Including Nagpur-Pune; Sleeper Variant Soon

The decision on the remaining two routes is still under consideration, a railway ministry official said. The tentative routes are Belgaum-Bengaluru and Katra-Amritsar At least three Vande Bharat Chair Cars are expected to be inaugurated on August 10, with one of these connecting Nagpur and Pune, officials aware of the details told News18. The decision on the remaining two routes is still under consideration, a railway ministry official said. The tentative routes are Belgaum-Bengaluru and Katra-Amritsar, as of Wednesday. The nearly 900 km train ride between Nagpur and Pune will be completed in about 10 hours. Currently, Duronto Express is the fastest train on this route, taking nearly 13 hours. The Vande Bharat will start from Ajni station, about 3 km from Nagpur Railway Station, on the Delhi-Chennai line. Among existing Vande Bharat services, the Delhi-Varanasi route covers the longest distance of over 750 km, while the Tatanagar-Brahmapur train has the longest travel time at nine hours and 25 minutes. 'Three new trains are most likely to be flagged off on August 10. One of the routes will be Ajni-Pune," an official said. 'For the remaining routes, the final approvals are pending." The ministry has not issued any official details of the trains or routes as of now. As the Chair Car network expands, Indian Railways is gearing up to launch the much-anticipated Vande Bharat Sleeper variant—the third category after Chair Car and Vande Metro. Vande Bharat Sleeper Expected Soon: In High Demand Already Indian Railways is expected to introduce the Vande Bharat Sleeper train soon, with the ministry finalising the route, News18 has learnt. Earlier plans were for an August 10 launch, which is being reconsidered. In recent weeks, several requests have reached railway minister Ashwini Vaishnaw's office for sleeper train allocations, including proposals from poll-bound states Bihar and West Bengal. The Nagpur Division of the central zone submitted a proposal in June for the country's first Vande Bharat Sleeper, but it remains under consideration. On Wednesday, BJP MP Captain Brijesh Chowta from Dakshina Kannada met Vaishnaw, urging the allocation of the sleeper train on the Mangaluru-Bengaluru route. 'There is huge demand for the Sleeper Vande Bharat, and the ministry will soon finalise the route," an official added. The Vande Bharat Sleeper offers three classes—AC First Class, AC 2-Tier, and AC 3-Tier—with a total capacity of 1,128 passengers. Delhi-Patna Route Under Consideration Among the frontrunner routes is Delhi-Patna, although Indian Railways is yet to make an official announcement. In 2024 and earlier this year, a special Vande Bharat Chair Car operated on this route during festive seasons, covering nearly 1,000 km in 11 hours and 30 minutes—the longest chair car journey to date. The first sleeper rake, built by Integral Coach Factory (ICF), Chennai, has already undergone successful trials and was allocated to the northern zone in February, News18 was informed. Earlier this year, the ministry had announced plans to deliver 10 sleeper trains by December. As of July 31, only one train set had been produced. These new sets of trains are redefining travel comfort and convenience for millions of passengers across the country, with commuters expecting faster, safer, and more luxurious journeys. InoxGFL to invest Rs 50,000 crore in renewable energy operations by FY29

InoxGFL, a ₹1.53 trillion Indian conglomerate in chemicals, fluoropolymers, refrigerants, turbines and renewables, plans to invest ₹50,000 crore by FY29 in renewable energy operations across its businesses, said a top executive. 'The overall investment plan of the group involves about ₹50,000 crore in the next three years (by 2028-29) across the entire energy transition ecosystem — GFCLev, Inox Clean, Inox Neo Energies, Inox Wind and Inox Green,' Devansh Jain, executive director (ED) of InoxGFL Group, told Business Standard. 'Potentially, it could go even further after one strategic event,' Jain said without mentioning what the strategic event is. The group is reportedly eyeing ₹5,000-crore initial public offering (IPO) to list Inox Clean Energy. However, Jain did not comment on it, citing confidentiality. The investment holds significance as the company intends to add capacity across its group companies. This comes at a time when hybrid and round-the-clock (RTC) power projects are gaining momentum. The intent is also growth oriented, the executive said. Hybrid power projects integrate two or more energy sources —such as solar and wind — to improve overall system efficiency and reliability. In contrast, RTC power projects are designed to ensure a 24×7 power supply throughout the year. With over 90 years of presence, InoxGFL has invested over ₹3,200 crore across renewable energy and chemical verticals over the past one and a half years (till July 2025). The investment in renewables businesses during the same period was ₹1,650 crore. The company's reported IPO is expected to be the largest renewable initial offering in India's private sector. NTPC Green, the renewable energy arm of NTPC, was the first in the public sector to launch a ₹10,000-crore IPO. According to Jain, a large part of the investment will go into the Inox Clean Energy business through its independent power producer arm — Inox Neo Energies, and Inox Solar. Subsequently, a large investment will go into the GFCLev battery chemical business. A small part of the remaining investment will be split between Inox Wind (IWL) and Gujarat Fluorochemicals Ltd (GFL) — the flagship chemical company developing products for battery materials. As of now, a total of three companies of InoxGFL Group are listed on the exchanges — GFL, IWL — a leading manufacturer of wind turbines in India, and Inox Green, the operations and maintenance (O&M) company of the renewable arm. According to Jain, the merger of Inox Wind Energy Limited (IWEL) with IWL — approved by the National Companies Law Tribunal (NCLT) in June — has resulted in simplification of the corporate structure. It has also eliminated redundancies and unlocked value. 'The merger eliminated a ₹2,050-crore internal liability, as the funds previously given by IWL to IWEL now sit within the merged entity. This effectively strengthened IWL's balance sheet by ₹2,050 crore,' Jain said, adding: 'Following the merger, all inter-company debt has been eliminated, with corresponding liabilities now reclassified as assets.' Separately, the ongoing rights issue, which involves IWL raising ₹1,249 crore, is primarily aimed at supporting growth and converting ₹600 crore of promoter loans into equity. He said that this not only removes the liability but also brings in an additional ₹600 crore from other shareholders participating in the rights issue. 'Combined, these two actions convert ₹2,600 crore of liabilities into ₹3,200 crore of assets, creating a net swing of ₹5,800 crore,' Jain said.
