Reports: Packers to release CB Jaire Alexander
June 9 - The Green Bay Packers have told cornerback Jaire Alexander that he will be released, multiple outlets reported Monday.
Alexander, 28, skipped the in-person, voluntary workouts this offseason but was expected to be at the mandatory minicamp, which opens Tuesday.
A contentious relationship between the two parties continued this offseason, with the Packers seeking to restructure his contract amid frustration over his lack of availability; Alexander appeared in just 14 games over the past two seasons combined.
Last season, he didn't play in a game after Week 11, contending he was injured, though he did participate in some practices. In 2023, it was shoulder and knee injuries -- along with a one-game team suspension -- that limited his availability.
The team has tried to trade him this offseason but to no avail.
"We invested a lot in Jaire and want to make sure, if he's not gonna be on our football team helping us win games, that we get something back for that investment," Green Bay general manager Brian Gutekunst said earlier this offseason. "So we'll see where it goes, but again, working with (Alexander's agent) weekly and trying to figure out what's best for both Jaire and the Packers."
The team selected Alexander in the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft. He has two years left on the four-year extension he signed in 2022 with a base salary of $16.15 million in 2025 and $18.15 million in 2026.
A post-June 1 release will cost the Packers more than $7.5 million in dead money but with around $17.1 million in cap savings, according to Over The Cap.
Alexander was a second-team All-Pro and a Pro Bowl selection in both 2020 and 2022. Over seven seasons, he has appeared in 78 games (76 starts).
He has 12 career interceptions with a high of five in 2022. He also has three picks in seven playoff appearances.

BREAKING NEWS Cincinnati Bengals cut Germaine Pratt as Trey Hendrickson holds out and Sam Hubbard retires
The Cincinnati Bengals cut Germaine Pratt on Monday, making the veteran linebacker the team's latest cap casualty after signing star receivers Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins to massive contract extensions. Pratt has been a reliable contributor for the Bengals since being drafted out of the University of Cincinnati in 2019. He now departs a defense that was already without defensive end Sam Hubbard, who recently retired, and his counterpart Trey Hendrickson, who is holding out amid a contract dispute. And Hendrickson isn't the only defensive player currently on the sidelines. First-round pick Shemar Stewart, a defensive end from Texas A&M, and second-round pick Demetrius Knight II, a former South Carolina linebacker, are both in team meetings, but sat out of drills during organized team activities (OTAs) because they decided against signing the requisite waivers. The 29-year-old Pratt led Cincinnati with 143 total tackles in 2024, including five tackles for a loss to go with a pair of interceptions and fumble recoveries. The inconsistent Bengals missed the playoffs at 9-8 last season while surrendering 348.3 yards per game – more than all but seven NFL teams. Cincinnati also surrendered a touchdown on 67.9 percent of opponent's red-zone possessions, the third-worst rate in the NFL The Bengals are currently without holdout Trey Hendrickson (left) and retired Sam Hubbard Despite the absence of Hendrickson and the inactivity of Stewart and Knight, new Bengals defensive coordinator Al Golden was pleased with his other players' efforts during OTAs. 'We can push the limits of our core fundamentals,' he told reporters in Cincinnati last week. 'We can try to see how many concepts we can efficiently get to, which I think is important, and then draw on that in training camp. 'Although it's not as physical or perhaps as long as training camp, this does serve as a springboard and great foundation for us. Without this segment, it's hard to start off where you want, so that's why there's urgency right now for us.' Specifically, Golden is working to teach young defensive players the assignments of their teammates so that everyone is on the same page whenever on-field adjustments are made. 'When you sit in on those unit meetings and you look at the pre-practice work and all the stuff that they're getting as a unit, it's a very hungry group,' head coach Zac Taylor told reporters. 'Al's done a great job setting the standard in that room. The position coaches have followed suit, so I'm really excited about the direction that group's heading.' Golden previously served as the Bengals' linebackers coach in 2020 and 2021, when he worked directly with Pratt, before moving on to Notre Dame for three seasons.

Christian Pulisic's father tells Landon Donovan to ‘grow a pair' after criticism of son
Christian Pulisic's father, Mark, has continued the proud tradition of scrappy US soccer parents by firing back at Landon Donovan over perceived criticism of his son. Christian Pulisic has chosen not to play for the US men's national team at this summer's Gold Cup after a long season with his club team, Milan. During Fox Sports' coverage of the Uefa Nations League final between Portugal and Spain on Sunday, Donovan appeared to reference Pulisic's withdrawal from the USMNT squad, although he did not mention the player by name. Christian Pulisic's dad Mark claps back at Landon Donovan for criticizing USMNT players for sitting out of the Gold Cup, referencing the sabbatical he took in his career. Christian Pulisic also liked the post. [Cristiano Ronaldo]'s 40 years old,' said Donovan, who won 157 caps for the USMNT. 'He's played a long ass season. He's tired. He's out there grinding. Hurt himself in the process, and I can't help but think about our guys on vacation, not wanting to play in the Gold Cup. It's pissing me off.' On Sunday evening, Mark Pulisic posted to Instagram a ChatGPT answer detailing Donovan's decision to take a sabbatical from soccer in 2013. Mark Pulisic added the comment: 'This guy is talking about commitment. Look in the mirror + grow a pair and call names out, or are you afraid? Next time you want an interview, you will get rejected again.' His son added a like to the post. In May, Donovan addressed his own sabbatical in the context of Pulisic's decision to sit out the Gold Cup. 'I understand very clearly what it's like to need a break,' said Donovan, whose call then-US head coach Jürgen Klinsmann said contributed to the decision to cut Donovan from the 2014 World Cup team. 'If there's something serious going on in your life, in your family, mentally, whatever, I get it. I'm going to assume for the sake of this conversation that's not going on. If they would actually come out and give reasons, it would help us, but none of them want to say anything publicly. I think it would help them publicly to say 'this is why.'' Pulisic enjoyed his best season in Europe in 2024-25, putting in standout performances for Milan, even as the club slumped to eighth place in Serie A. Pulisic's decision to sit out the Gold Cup is unsurprising – he last played in the tournament, which is held every two years, in 2019. The Gold Cup is contested by Concacaf nations and occasional guest teams – Saudi Arabia will play in this year's edition. Mark Pulisic's angry response to criticism of his son has echoes of a dispute involving Christian's USMNT teammate Gio Reyna. In 2023, the Reyna family notified the US Soccer Federation of a decades-old incident involving then USMNT coach Gregg Berhalter and his wife in response to Berhalter's criticism of Reyna at a speaking event.
