American-style diner Tully's opening in Llandrindod Wells
Tully's Sports Diner is set to open on Wednesday, May 21, at the spa town's Hampton Hotel.
The diner idea has been cooked up by globetrotting chef Jamie Tully, who has worked in ski chalets around Europe, counts Mid Wales culinary stars Gareth Ward and Nathan Davies as friends and former colleagues, and used to cook privately for Sheikh Mohammed, the ruler of Dubai.
Jamie, from Builth Wells, set up his own private chef business, Tully's Unit 13, in Llandrindod about a year ago, with the sports diner idea emerging from the well-travelled culinary artist's longing for a proper American-style bar at home.
'Tully's Sports Diner will open on May 21 for the first time, which I am very excited about,' said Jamie, 31, who returned home from working on yachts a year ago and set up Unit 13.
'The biggest thing I missed from my travels and work in the US was a proper American bar and a place where you can watch all of the American and global sports events.
'With that being said, Tully's Sports Diner is my next venture here in Llandrindod.
'Tully's will be a food-led, American-style sports bar, serving up great food and a place where you can watch all of your favourite sports, including all the US sports too.
'We have just ordered a massive 85-inch TV, with multiple screens around the restaurant which will be showing everything from boxing events, the Ryder Cup, UFC, F1 and more.
'The restaurant will have seating for around 80 people. The venue will also be available for exclusive hire, for events, and in time we will be introducing a bottomless brunch too.'

During his career, Jamie has cooked with Michelin star chef Simon Rogan and counts current Powys-based culinary stars Gareth Ward, from Ynyshir Restaurant and Rooms, near Machynlleth, and Nathan Davies, owner of SY23 in Aberystwyth, as friends and former colleagues.
He was previously recruited to be head chef at Builth's iconic Caer Beris Manor Hotel in 2022, where the owners at the time had ambitions to gain a Michelin star for the rebranded Teulu restaurant.
He was most recently working at the celebrated Chartists 1770 in Llanidloes, before going off on his travels again.
'I returned home from the yachts a year ago and set up my own private chef business, which has become pretty successful,' said Jamie.
'I had a very small kitchen on the side of Unit 14 at the Ddole Road Industrial Estate (Llandrindod).
'I also launched a meal prep business from that kitchen for the locals in the town which became quite popular, but I quickly grew out of the kitchen at Unit 14.
'Luckily, Unit 13 became available, so I took on the lease this year.
'With more space I could expand operations, which is where Tully's Unit 13 came from.
'That became the base for my private dining and meal prep services, but also opened as a takeaway, serving healthy lunches to more of a street food take away in the evenings.'
Following the success of Unit 13, Jamie had a conversation with Neil Sanders, owner of the Hampton Hotel, and the diner will occupy the space that was the former Worth Your Salt burger joint.
'Together, we wanted to create something different for the town,' he added.
'I am extremely excited to bring something different and with my travels and experience I hope to create a special place in the town.'

Premiership boss considered leaving before takeover
Martindale had a central role at Livi even before taking over as manager in 2020 and has had to deal with a number of off-field issues involving previous owners and finances. Those problems were swept away when American Ford took majority control in May, just before Martindale led his team to promotion back to the William Hill Premiership with a play-off win over Ross County. Ford spoke on Monday about his plans to make Livi a 'disruptive' force in Scottish football and has put his faith in Martindale to lead the football side. 'I'll be honest, when we were sitting on Zoom calls in February, March, whenever it was, my head was 'I need to try and take the club back to the Premiership and maybe look elsewhere for my career',' the Lions manager said. 'And Calvin just came in and kind of rejuvenated me. Also, it rejuvenated the staff, it just gave everyone in the football club a massive lift because the previous years were difficult. 'Taking the club back to the Premiership with the old regime, it wouldn't have been ideal. It would have just been pushing water up a hill again. 'And then Calvin's come in, there's just been a real fresh impetus, everybody, staff, upstairs, downstairs and I think that comes from his enthusiasm, his passion, his desire. 'Before we got back to the Premiership, his words to me, I remember sitting in the hotel room in Ross County and a text message came through and goes, 'look Davie, don't think you have to take the club back to the Premiership. Read more: 'It would be great, but I'm here through the good and the bad times and I'll be here if you're in the Championship'. 'And maybe that helped me make better decisions in the dugout, so it's just been a breath of fresh air to be honest.' Martindale added: 'Once we knew that Calvin was fully on board and it was going to get done, I think I had a better night's sleep than I had for the last two or three years to be honest. 'You've now got an upstairs looking after the upstairs. 'Being able to come into work and be the first-team manager of Livingston Football Club, this is the first time proper I've had that opportunity as a football manager. 'So I'm now fully focused on the football side, where historically I wasn't. Historically I couldn't be, it was just impossible. 'I never wanted a lot of the stuff that fell on my desk, but I got it through default because I was the only one that was here at the football club at that point.' Ford stated that Martindale reminded him of himself with his passion and care for the club. Martindale said: 'I think he sees the resilience. We're robust, we'll fight, we'll kick, we'll scream and we'll claw our way back to the Premiership and that's kind of what we've done. 'Hopefully that's what he's meaning in terms of the personality traits, in terms of the will to win – never give up.'

What's Happening!! actress Danielle Spencer dies aged 60
Former child star Danielle Spencer has died of cancer aged 60. The American actress was best known for playing Dee Thomas in the sitcom What's Happening!!, which ran from 1976 until 1979. After being diagnosed with breast cancer and undergoing a double mastectomy in 2014, she then faced emergency surgery to relieve bleeding on her brain four years later. It was announced this week that she had died in hospital in Richmond, Virginia, however a cause of death is yet to be shared. 'Dr. Dee, our brilliant, loving, positive, pragmatic warrior, without fail, has finally found her release from the clutches of this world and a body. We celebrate Danielle Spencer and her contributions as we regret to inform her departure and transition from a long battle with cancer,' her friend and former co-star Haywood Nelson wrote on Instagram. 'We have lost a daughter, sister, family member, What's Happening!! cast member, veterinarian, animal rights proponent and healer, and cancer heroine. Our Shero. Danielle is loved. She will be missed in this form and forever embraced.' 'She suffered for a very long time but did it with a great deal of courage,' he also told The Hollywood Reporter. Born in the Bronx, New York, in 1965, Spencer began acting classes aged seven and was cast in What's Happening!! four years later. The show was loosely based on the film Cooley High and although it was originally only planned to air during one summer, it performed so well in its time slot a full season was greenlit. However a year after the show began, the actress was involved in a shocking accident. During the production of the season 2 episode Trial and Error in September 1977, Spencer and her stepfather Tim Pelt were involved in a severe car accident that left her in a coma for three weeks and caused his death. Pelt's fatal injuries were caused by trying to protect Spencer during the crash. She had no memories of the accident and spent six months recovering and undergoing physical therapy. After the series was cancelled in 1979, Spencer and her mother temporarily relocated to Africa. When they returned, she enrolled at the University of California-Davis, where she studied veterinary medicine. However, after syndicated reruns of the 65 What's Happening!! episodes rated well, a sequel series was ordered. More Trending Titled What's Happening Now!!, it saw Spencer return to screens as Dee while also balancing her college degree.
