Working closely with Nasa to address Ax-4 delay, says Isro chairman

Business Standard20 hours ago

Indian Space Research Organisation (Isro) is working closely with Axiom Space, Nasa, SpaceX as they responsibly address the ISS Zvezda module observation causing the Ax-4 delay.
V Narayanan, the Secretary DOS/ Chairman Isro and Chairman Space Commission said that safety and mission integrity were their priorities.
In a post on X, Isro stated, "Isro is working closely with Axiom Space, Nasa, SpaceX as they responsibly address the ISS Zvezda module observation causing the Ax-4 delay. Safety and mission integrity remain our top priorities."
On June 11, SpaceX announced the postponement of the Falcon 9 launch of the Ax-4 mission to the International Space Station (ISS), citing the need for additional time to repair a liquid oxygen (LOx) leak.
"Standing down from tomorrow's Falcon 9 launch of Ax-4 to the @Space_Station to allow additional time for SpaceX teams to repair the LOx leak identified during post static fire booster inspections. Once complete - and pending Range availability - we will share a new launch date," the company said in a post on X.
Following the announcement, the Indian Space Research Organisation (Isro) also confirmed the delay of the Axiom-4 mission, which was scheduled for launch on June 11, 2025, and was set to carry the first Indian Gaganyatri to the ISS.
Despite the delay, the Axiom-4 mission remains significant. The Ax-4 crew includes members from India, Poland, and Hungary, marking each nation's first mission to the space station in history and the second government-sponsored human spaceflight mission in over 40 years, according to Axiom Space. Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla will be India's second national astronaut to go to space since 1984.
Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla is part of Axiom Space's fourth private astronaut mission (Ax-4), marking a historic moment for India's space collaboration with Nasa.
According to Axiom Space, the Ax-4 mission will "realise the return" to human spaceflight for India, Poland, and Hungary, marking each nation's first government-sponsored flight in more than 40 years.

'Gen AI' knowledge now increasingly demanded in job postings: Report

BENGALURU: It's not just information technology companies, now job roles across various sectors demand generative AI knowledge. Regional hubs have emerged for jobs that either use or help develop generative AI. In Karnataka, about 2.4% of job postings mention generative AI, ahead of 2.3% in Telangana, according to recent data from global job matching and hiring platform Indeed. Maharashtra has the second-largest volume of generative AI opportunities and the largest volume of total job opportunities, but it's mentioned in just 1% of job postings, the platform said. On Friday, Indeed released its report for the month of May that says job postings have rebounded strongly during the month, up 8.9%, following eight consecutive monthly declines. However, they are 1.8% lower than a year ago. Indeed's data shows that, as of May 2025, 1.5% of Indian job postings explicitly mention generative AI in their job descriptions, more than doubling over the past year. Generative AI opportunities are now increasingly widespread as about 12.5% of data analytics roles mention generative AI, ahead of software development (3.6%) and scientific research (3.1%). It's also commonly mentioned across a range of office roles, including marketing (1.1% of job postings) and management (0.9%). Callam Pickering, Indeed's APAC Senior Economist, said, "Indian job creation continues to outpace other countries because of the nation's transition towards more formal economic arrangements." "As the nation transitions, job creation across the formal sector will be much stronger than overall employment growth nationwide, and we have consistently seen that in recent years. Other economies are not going through a transition of this nature," he added. Though software development opportunities have declined recently, the sector continues to have the largest volume of job opportunities on the platform, as it accounts for around one-in-five Indian job postings. It highlights how prominent the tech sector has been to India's emerging formal sector, with multinationals trying to tap into the country's large talent pool. The report also mentions that job postings in around 80% of occupations in India increased over the past three months. Gains were largest in childcare (27%), personal care & home health (25%), education (24%), and production & manufacturing (22%).

IIT-I's new CoE to develop tech solutions to enhance agri practices

Indore: IIT-Indore's newly launched Agri Hub, a Centre of Excellence (CoE) dedicated to developing technological solutions aimed at enhancing agricultural practices in India, has already attracted 11 projects from various organisations. The CoE, specialising in Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, and deep learning, aims to bridge the gap between data generation and actionable insights for farmers, ensuring that advancements in technology benefit the agricultural sector. Professor Aruna Tiwari, principal investigator of the AgriHub Project, said, "Huge data is generated across the country by agriculture scientists, but it remains underutilised due to limited access for computer scientists. By centralising this data, we can develop algorithms to create innovative solutions that directly benefit farmers and stakeholders." The CoE serves as a collaborative platform, bringing together stakeholders from academia, industry, non-governmental organisations, Krishi Vikas Kendras, and farmers' producer organisations (FPOs) to tackle the challenges faced by agriculture today. Professor Suhas S. Joshi, director of IIT Indore, expressed pride in the launch of the AgriHub, stating, "This initiative is a significant step towards making a societal impact through technological innovation. With its advanced infrastructure and collaborative framework, the AgriHub Technology Centre is poised to become a national model for technology-driven agricultural transformation." Equipped with a state-of-the-art smart rack configuration, the Technology Centre hosts the latest NVIDIA DGX systems, optimised for AI workloads, alongside a high-capacity Storage Node. This facility promises enhanced computational performance and scalable storage solutions capable of handling extensive agricultural datasets. The AgriHub will work to deploy advanced machine learning, deep learning, and data analytics models to explore innovative solutions and address the complex challenges of Indian agriculture. By facilitating a network of collaboration and data sharing, the CoE is committed to advancing agricultural practices and improving the livelihoods of farmers across the nation. ‘Op-Sindoor' proved indigenous innovation is India's strongest shield

Hyderabad: Operation Sindoor proved that indigenous innovation is India's strongest shield. Homegrown drones, equipped with inbuilt detectors, jammers, and radars, and without a single imported component, successfully neutralised enemy drone threats, Ashok Atluri, Co-Chair of FICCI's National Defence & Homeland Security Committee, said on Friday. Atluri, who is also the chairman & managing director of Hyderabad-based Zen Technologies, said R&D is not a luxury but a necessity, especially for MSMEs, in his inaugural address at FICCI's MSME Xcelerate 2025. "While day-to-day operations may feel all-consuming, ignoring R&D risks irrelevance. Identifying the right area and committing focus can lead to transformative breakthroughs. To thrive globally, India must innovate for the world, not just for local markets. R&D can propel India to global leadership, and funding is no longer a barrier in India," he said. V Suresh Babu, zonal head, National Small Industries Corporation (NSIC), NSIC-registered MSMEs get several benefits, including exemption from tender fees and security deposits, making it easier to participate in govt tenders. "Under the public procurement policy, it's mandatory for PSUs to source at least 25% of their requirements from MSMEs. It's a golden opportunity MSMEs must leverage. NSIC also supports MSMEs in showcasing their offerings through exhibitions, with up to 80% subsidy provided for domestic participation," he said. FICCI's Telangana State Council Chairman VV Rama Raju said though MSMEs are the lifeblood of the Indian economy with a 30% contribution to the GDP, they face several challenges in today's rapidly evolving economic environment.
