Gun pulled during fight at J. Alexander's restaurant: police
The MPD is searching for two suspects accused of threatening and assaulting customers on Mother's Day at the restaurant on North Germantown Parkway.
Police say the altercation broke out around 6:30 p.m. when the ex-boyfriend of a victim's daughter approached her at the restaurant, holding a gun to his side where everyone could see it. He allegedly told the woman to 'get back,' and a fight began.
Two men hospitalized after Mother's Day shootings
A woman who attempted to break up the fight was punched in the face by a female suspect, and a man who also tried to intervene told police the male suspect pointed the gun at his stomach.
Reports say the two suspects then left the restaurant in a purple Lexus SUV with Tennessee temporary tags.
A man who said he was a witness went on Facebook Live describing what he saw, saying two women began fighting at the table next to his, and then a group of people jumped over the patio wall and began attacking a woman who was eating.
He said he only saw a fist fight but, 'At some point, somebody said 'Gun.'' A restaurant employee then ran through the restaurant and told everyone to get under their tables and take cover.
He said his group decided to stay at the restaurant after the action, and had an 'amazing' evening.
No one was injured during the altercation. WREG is reaching out to the restaurant today.

Trump DOJ is investigating whether DC crime stats were manipulated
Source: CNN The Trump Justice Department is investigating whether Washington, DC's Metropolitan Police Department manipulated crime data, according to two sources. The investigation, which is being run by the US attorney's office in DC, is an escalation in the city's battle against a federal law enforcement takeover from the Trump administration. President Donald Trump appeared to confirm the probe in a social media post, writing that 'D.C. gave Fake Crime numbers in order to create a false illusion of safety. This is a very bad and dangerous thing to do, and they are under serious investigation for so doing!' The New York Times was first to report the investigation. The Justice Department declined to comment on the investigation. DC Mayor Muriel Bowser and Police Chief Pamela Smith said Wednesday that they will cooperate with the probe – and expect subpoenas may be issued. 'Any questions about data from DOJ we will happily answer,' Bowser said during a school event, while maintaining that crime in the nation's capital has gone down over the last two years. Smith said she has not yet been contacted by DOJ about its investigation. 'But, I am aware that there may be or will be subpoenas issued, I don't know to whom, but that's all I know at this point.' The investigation comes following reports that an MPD commander was placed on administrative leave amid accusations that the department was falsifying crime data in one district, marking offenses as lower-level crimes than they might actually be. Smith said MPD's probe into the allegations of manipulating crime statistics is ongoing. 'It was an investigation that was initiated by me,' Smith said. 'We have not yet completely finalized the investigation.' Trump and other administration officials have for months slammed the capital city, alleging that its Democratic leadership has allowed violent crime to run rampant for years. When federal police descended just over a week ago, the president said it was necessary to combat what he said was skyrocketing crime rates. City officials have pushed back on the allegation, and the MPD's public statistics say that violent crime has dropped almost 30% from this time last year. And in January the DOJ said that in 2024, violent crime dropped 35 % from the previous year, marking the lowest it had been in more than three decades. Asked about the federal takeover of the district's police department and deployment of the National Guard, Smith on Wednesday said it has been 'a cohesive process.' 'We have met with our federal partners. We've given them different areas across the city where we would like to see resources allocated. And today, I will tell you, it's been a cohesive process. We speak every single day,' she said. This story has been updated with comments from DC Mayor Muriel Bowser and Police Chief Pamela Smith. CNN's Mary Kay Mallonee contributed to this report. National Guard vehicle, car collide in DC
A National Guard vehicle collided with a civilian car early Wednesday morning approximately a mile away from the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C. The D.C. Fire and Emergency Medical Services Department said in a statement that the crash occurred at the intersection of 8th Street SE and North Carolina Avenue SE. The civilian driver was trapped in the car, rescued and transported to a local hospital with minor injuries, the statement said. The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) said officers responded to reports of the crash at 6:18 a.m. EDT and 'upon arrival officers discovered a two-car accident involving a government vehicle.' The driver was 'conscious and breathing' when taken to the hospital for 'non-life-threatening injuries,' MPD said. The military vehicle was a D.C. National Guard Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected All-Terrain Vehicle and was part of a five-vehicle convoy and an MPD cruiser, the National Guard said in a statement reported by local news outlets. The National Guard is investigating the incident, the statement said. Washington, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser (D) was asked about the incident at a press conference later Wednesday and said, 'I actually haven't gotten a readout on that collision yet, other than I know we had a person, I believe one person transported for medical attention. So I can't really say more,' NewsNation reported. The incident comes after President Trump ordered hundreds of National Guard troops to Washington, D.C., in an effort to crack down on crime in the nation's capital. Several Republican governors have joined his effort, bringing the total number of troops in the city to nearly 2,000.
