Shock Twist: Orlando Pirates get word on Mokwena & Mosimane!
Orlando Pirates have yet to confirm their coach for next season following the departure of Spaniard Jose Riveiro, who achieved five domestic cups during his three-year tenure.
Several names are rumoured to be on the Buccaneers shortlist, including former Mamelodi Sundowns manager Rulani Mokwena. The PSL winner is a free agent after being dismissed by Wydad Athletic at the end of the season.
However, it isn't only Orlando Pirates who are reportedly monitoring Mokwena – Egyptian giants Zamalek are too in the conversation.
Like Pirates, the recent Egyptian Cup winners are interested in Mokwena and Pitso Mosimane; however, the former doesn't want to compete with his former colleague.
'I didn't hear from them (Zamalek) after I had said I heard that coach Pitso was also in the running for this position,' Mokwena told SuperSport's Africa Soccer show.
'My relationship and my respect for him would not allow me to compete for the same coaching job with coach Pitso.'
'It just wouldn't sit well with me, so I pulled out. I said I would rather they give it to Pitso.'
'Exactly what you are saying, my agent said, 'But this is a big club', and I said my respect for Pitso and what he has done for my career wouldn't allow me to do that.'
Orlando Pirates target Fiston Mayele will leave Pyramids this offseason, the only uncertainty remains as to who he will join. According to reports, the prolific striker has several suitors interested.
'Mayele's career with Pyramids FC will end at the end of the current season. The player will leave after the Zamalek and Pyramids match in the Egypt Cup final.'
'Mayele has received incredible offers, offers exceeding $3 million (R55 million) and reaching $4 million (R74 million) per season. The player is receiving $1 million per season from Pyramids, but he completely refuses to continue.'
'Pyramids Club, in appreciation of the player and the fact that he is the top scorer in the African Champions League and was one of the reasons the team won the championship,' Egyptian publication Al-Masry Al-Youm revealed.

Orlando Pirates transfers: Mako, Mashiloane, Appollis
Today's Orlando Pirates transfer wrap looks at both outgoings and potential incoming ahead of the new season. Paseka Mako leaves Pirates after seven years. Versatile defender Tshepho Mashiloane joins from Baroka. 31-year-old full-back Paseka Mako made 26 appearances across all competitions last term for Pirates. The compact left-sided star is much-loved by the fans. Another firm favourite, Deon Hotto, is 34 now and approaching the twilight of his stellar career. Is it foolish, therefore, to let go of Mako, who still has plenty to offer at this level? In their search for a prolific wide man, Chiefs have reportedly reignited their interest in Polokwane and Bafana star Oswin Appollis. The 23-year-old was in action for South Africa in a 0-0 draw against Tanzania. Appollis is also a target for Pirates. Click for the story What is there to know about 23-year-old Tshepho Mashiloane? Well, the versatile defender can operate at right-back or in central midfield. This will be a considerable boost for the Pirates technical team; although they have a strong squad at their disposal, both full-back positions are relatively weak spots after the release of Thabiso Monyane and Mako. With experience in the second tier, it's also hoped that he's ready for a battle. Click for a full profile Tshepho Mashiloane in action for Baroka FC in the Motsepe Foundation Championship. PSL transfer news: Mbesuma, Mbule, Mofokeng, Moremi, Rulani
Premier Soccer League (PSL) clubs are preparing for the transfer window to open in the coming weeks. The Betway Premiership might have ended but expect more player movement from now until mid-September. While champions Mamelodi Sundowns are preparing for the FIFA Club World Cup, Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates will look to capitalise and bring in top players to challenge for top honours. Last year, Amakhosi was the busiest PSL team in the transfer window, bringing in seven players before adding three more in the January period. Under Nasreddine Nabi, the Soweto giants won the Nedbank Cup but failed to improve in the league. Collins Mbesuma, who played for Amakhosi in the mid-2000s, has offered his services to his former club. 'A PSL club? Of course, Khosi for Life. At my peak, I could be solving their current goal-scoring crisis. I'm a striker's coach, you know, so I'm available to help any team,' Mbesuma told KickOff . The midfielder was been linked with Amakhosi for several weeks, having reportedly parted ways with Mamelodi Sundowns. His agent, Mike Makaab revealed he offered the ex-Richards Bay midfielder to Amakhosi 'Let me set the record straight. Sipho Mbule has been offered to Kaizer Chiefs,' the agent admitted on X. 'It is up to the club to make the decision and we need to respect that decision.' Another player on the move is AmaZulu winger Tshepang Moremi. According to Soccer Laduma , the Buccaneers had secured a three-year deal with the KwaZulu-Natal-based talent. 'We can say that this Orlando Pirates and Moremi deal is as good as done,' an insider told Soccer Laduma . Yes, it's believed that Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs were also interested in him, but Pirates have won this race. It's as good as done at the moment,' the insider added. Another coach who could rejoin Orlando Pirates is Rulani Mokwena. With Jose Riveiro with Al Ahly, Mokwena is amongst the favourites to take over from the Spaniard. The 37-year-old has a short, unsuccessful stint with Tunisian giants Wydad Casablanca. Orlando Pirates will be the PSL team to watch this transfer period, having already released several players. One top player set to leave for Europe is Relebohile Mofokeng. Orlando Pirates are keen on signing Cape Town City youngster Jaedin Rhodes after failing to land him in January. 'One of those reinforcements could be a long-time target, Jaedin Rhodes. Although the 22-year-old has endured an underwhelming season with Cape Town City, he remains a high priority on the Buccaneers' list,' a source said. 'The club [Orlando Pirates] has been met with resistance by City in previous attempts to lure Rhodes to Gauteng, but according to sources, will try once more in the upcoming window.
