Buckingham Palace Just Released a New Portrait of Queen Camilla for Her Birthday
Queen Camilla is turning 78 this week, and Buckingham Palace has released a new image to mark the milestone. The picture was taken earlier this month in the garden of her private Wiltshire home, Raymill, by often-favored photographer Chris Jackson.
As is typical for non-milestone royal birthdays, the Queen is not scheduled to make any public appearances on her birthday, which falls on Thursday, July 17. A Palace aide said that she would be spending it privately at home.
The Queen's birthday comes after a busy time for her ahead of her summer break. Today, she was in Devon carrying out a string of engagements including a visit to Children's Hospice South West in her role as their patron. On Tuesday, she was made an honorary Freeman and Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Stationers and Newspaper Makers in the City of London. The honor was in recognition of her interest in literacy which is a big charitable focus of hers. And on Monday, Camilla visited Battersea Dogs and Cats home in her role as their patron.
Last week, she played a prominent part in the state visit from France's President Macron and his wife Brigitte. And she also managed to squeeze in a trip to Wimbledon to watch the men's quarterfinals alongside her sister Annabel Elliot.
To coincide with the Queen's visit to Battersea, another new image was released of her alongside rescue pup Moley. Also taken by photographer Chris Jackson at Camilla's home in Raymill, the image showed her smiling and holding the puppy up for the camera. It is Moley's second time appearing in an official photograph, as the Palace also released one in May this year ahead of the Queen's visit to a dog garden at the Chelsea Flower Show.
At 78 years old, Camilla has now been Queen for almost three years and polling shows that around half of the British public currently have a positive view of her. This is a far cry from polling of the noughties, which suggested that people would struggle to ever accept her as their Queen.
For many years as Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla's outings often stayed more under the radar as she carried out somewhere between 200 and 300 engagements annually. But her profile as the consort to the head of state has meant that as she approaches 80, she is now very much center stage. In February this year, the couple's 20th wedding anniversary coincided with their state visit to Italy.
The King and Queen are soon expected to pause official engagements for their summer break. The King, 76, is continuing to receive treatment for an undisclosed form of cancer and Camilla has repeatedly made comments about the challenge of getting him to slow down.

Kayaker pops into Pembrokeshire for Welsh cakes on incredible European tour
An intrepid round-Europe kayaker has been welcomed to Pembrokeshire this week with a bag of Welsh cakes - thanks to a local teacher who he met in Spain last year. Urban Heupgen from Germany and Dylan Davies, who teaches at Haverfordwest High, had a chance encounter last August while Dylan was on a summer tour in his camper van. Dylan, from New Hedges, near Tenby, was astonished to learn that Urban had paddled thousands of miles on his incredible journey, encountering all kinds of marine hazards on his way. 'I bumped into Urban last August in Spain, and when I asked how far he had come, he surprised me and said 'Germany," explained Dylan 'We got talking and it turned out he was on a multi-leg trip over a few years from Estonia through the canal and river system in Germany into the Med. "He has been met with range safety vessels, multiple species of whales, container ships, ferries and even a close call with a helicopter.' Dylan was fascinated by Urban's voyage which the solo kayaker has documented on his social media pages. "Though he isn't doing it for any fanfare or recognition he will be the first to circumnavigate Europe when complete." Dylan kept in touch with Urban through his social media, and last Saturday, July 12, he boarded his own boat to sail out for a rendezvous on Caldey Island. 'It was a very special moment," said Dylan. "The weather couldn't have been better and as he didn't have any shorts with him, as he didn't expect a hot British summer I gifted my swim shorts and a bag of Welsh cakes.' Initial reviews for The Fantastic Four: First Steps are in and singing high praises for Marvel's newest film. The movie stars Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, and Joseph Quinn as the heroic quartet, with British actor Ralph Ineson as the villain Galactus and Julia Garner as the Silver Surfer. The original Fantastic Four comic books follow a group of scientists who develop superhuman abilities after being exposed to a mysterious cosmic storm. The new Marvel film follows Mister Fantastic, the Invisible Woman, the Human Torch, and the Thing as they defend Earth from Galactus and the Silver Surfer. The Fantastic Four cast will appear in the film alongside a variety of characters from the Thunderbolts, Black Panther, and X-Men films. Nigella Lawson's Blueberry Polenta Upside-Down Cake
Hello, thank you for coming to my dessert dissertation defense. Let's begin: The best cakes are upside down. There are several reasons for this. Upside-down cakes highlight fruit, whether fleetingly seasonal or, in the case of canned pineapple, pleasingly and perfectly circular. They're easy to make and don't call for much equipment beyond a mixing bowl and a cake tin. Because they don't have any frosting, upside-down cakes are usually not too sweet. And they look stunning, with the fruit forming a mosaic on top of the cake, which, when you cut into it, has a beautiful ombré effect from top to bottom. Nigella Lawson's blueberry polenta upside-down cake is a perfect example of the form. It's simple to pull together; just tumble blueberries over sugar in your greased cake pan, pour over your batter (no mixer or butter softening required) and bake. The polenta adds a subtle crunch to the tender cake, and the blueberries form a juicy, inky indigo topper. Serve with vanilla ice cream or nothing at all.
