Imee mentions Sara, FPRRD, but not Bongbong in proclamation speech
Imee, who landed on the 12th place in the Senate race, expressed her gratitude to her 96-year-old mother, former First Lady Imelda Marcos, and her children, who were physically present during the event.
Apart from her family, Imee acknowledged former President Rodrigo Duterte and his daughter, Vice President Sara Duterte.
"Kay Presidente Duterte, ang ating dating Pangulo na Oktubre pa lamang itinaas na ang aking kamay, at sa kanyang anak na hanggang sa huling sandali si VP Inday Sara ay ako'y kinakampanya," Imee said.
(To President Duterte, our former president who raised my hand as early as October last year, and his daughter VP Inday Sara, who up to the final moments continued to campaign for me.)
"Ang tagumpay na ito, kahit gaano kailap at kahirap ay isang katibayan na kapag ikaw ay nanindigan para sa tama, mananalo ka," she added.
(This victory, although seemingly elusive and difficult to achieve, is proof that if you stand up for the right things, you will win.)
In an interview after her proclamation, Imee was asked why she did not mention her younger brother in her speech.
"Ay nalimutan ko na. Wala akong kodigo eh (I forgot already. I didn't have notes with me)," Imee responded.
To recall, President Marcos dropped Imee from the senatorial slate of the administration-backed Alyansa Para sa Bagong Pilipinas. This was in the middle of the Eleksyon 2025 campaign, after the senator launched an investigation into the arrest of former President Duterte.
Imee was later endorsed by Vice President Sara Duterte.
Senate President Imee?
Meanwhile, Imee denied a report that she is vying for the Senate presidency.
"Wala akong naiisip. Gusto ko lang maproklama (I'm not thinking about that. I just want to be proclaimed)," she said.
With regard to the impeachment trial of the Vice President, Imee said her eventual decision will depend on the pieces of evidence that will be presented.
"As senator, I will sit as a judge and will rely on the evidence presented," Imee said.

Senate probe on anomalous flood control projects set on Tuesday
The Senate's probe on supposed anomalous flood control projects, through the Blue Ribbon Committee, will begin on Tuesday, August 19, 2025. This was announced by Blue Ribbon panel chairman Senator Rodante Marcoleta on Saturday, who admitted that the inquiry would be a daunting task, 'considering the enormity of the multi-billion projects, and the complexity of untangling the web of corruption within the public works system.' The senator also said that the probe will not focus solely on contractors in question but will also try to uncover the public officials who shamelessly profit from flood control. 'Sabihin n'yo kung magkano binibigay n'yo sa mga taong gobyerno para hindi kayo ang madidikdik d'yan,' Marcoleta told contractors. (Tell me how much you are giving to government officials so you'll be blamed solely for this.) Marcoleta emphasized how entire communities suffer from destructive flooding due to the substandard projects. This, as he called on the public to help in the Senate inquiry. President Ferdinand ''Bongbong'' Marcos Jr. earlier disclosed that 20% of the total P545 billion budget of flood control projects was awarded to only 15 contractors. 'This is another disturbing assessment, statistic: 20% of the entire P545 billion budget napunta lang sa 15 na contractor. Keep going. Ayan. Ito na 'yung listahan,'' Marcos said on Monday as he launched the website on flood control projects. Asked if these contractors have links to sitting government executives and officials, Marcos said the administration is still looking into it. In his last State of the Nation Address, the President vowed to ensure that those involved in anomalous flood control projects would be held accountable. —VAL, GMA Integrated News

Sara Duterte traveled to Kuwait to visit Filipino community — OVP
Vice President Sara Duterte traveled to Kuwait on Friday to visit the Filipino community in the Middle Eastern country, her office said Saturday. In a statement, the Office of the Vice President (OVP) said Duterte flew to Kuwait to join Filipinos there for a gathering to discuss concerns and issues impacting their sector. "As part of the Vice President's mandate to represent and advocate for the welfare of all Filipinos, including those overseas, it is essential that she remains actively engaged with the Filipino migrant communities wherever they may be," the OVP said. "She will then proceed to continue working on the release of our former head of state Rodrigo Duterte who was forcibly taken from Philippine soil," it added. The OVP stressed that Duterte's official engagements are conducted in full compliance with existing government rules and regulations, ensuring that her presence abroad is both lawful and aligned with her responsibilities in public service. "In addition, no public funds are used for all her travels overseas," the Vice President's office said. Moreover, the statement added that Vice President's office, along with its 10 satellite offices across the country, "remains ready to serve and assist our fellow Filipinos both here and abroad, despite limitations in capacity and budget." Malacañang has criticized Duterte for defending her foreign trips and for saying that Filipino communities abroad were supposedly frustrated with the country's state. Palace Press Office Undersecretary Atty. Claire Castro said Duterte's "personal trips" abroad would not solve the country's problems. She added that it was not the duty of the Vice President to lash out and discredit President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. In a recent interview, Duterte explained why she has been traveling abroad in recent months. 'Lumalabas ako ng bansa dahil frustrated na ang Filipino communities abroad sa nangyayari dito sa ating bayan. At pangalawa, bumibisita ako sa tatay ko na nakakulong,' she added. (I go outside the country because Filipino communities abroad are frustrated with what's happening in our country. Secondly, I visit my detained father.) — VDV, GMA Integrated News

Senate's proposed 2026 budget slashed by nearly half at P7.5 billion
The Senate has a proposed budget of P7.5 billion for next year under the National Expenditure Program (NEP)—a far cry from its P13.9-billion budget for 2025. Based on the 2026 NEP submitted by the Department of Budget and Management (DBM), the upper chamber initially proposed a P9.67-billion budget for 2025, but it was reduced to P7.52 billion upon final recommendation. The Senate received a P13.93-billion budget under the 2025 General Appropriations Act (GAA). The upper chamber's proposed 2026 budget was almost equally divided for its maintenance and other operating expenses (MOOE) and personnel services, amounting to P3.77 billion and P3.74 billion, respectively. No budget was allocated for the Senate's confidential, intelligence, and extraordinary expenses as in previous years. There was also zero allocation for its capital outlays on the 2026 NEP. The DBM on Wednesday afternoon turned over the copy of the P6.793-trillion 2026 NEP to the Senate, which was personally received by Senate President Francis "Chiz" Escudero. On the same day, the Senate adopted in the plenary Senate Concurrent Resolution No. 4, subject to style, which seeks to establish transparency and accountability in the passage of the national budget. The concurrent resolution mandates that budget documents such as the General Appropriations Bill (GAB), Bicameral Conference Committee Report, and transcripts of bicam meetings be uploaded on both the websites of the Senate and the House of Representatives. It also provides that both Houses of Congress ensure that all budget deliberations, including budget briefings, public hearings, plenary discussions, and bicameral conference committee meetings be accessible to the public via digital live streaming. The public will likewise be given a platform on the websites to communicate their analyses, suggestions, and feedback on the national budget. — VDV, GMA Integrated News
