Sixth edition of IMMAF Youth World Championships kicks off in Al Ain
The event, held in the city for the first time, features a record participation of more than 1,000 male and female athletes representing 60 countries.
Organised by the International Mixed Martial Arts Federation (IMMAF) and hosted by the UAE Jiu-Jitsu and Mixed Martial Arts Federation, the championship runs until 27th July. The opening day featured high-intensity bouts and a vibrant atmosphere, with strong attendance from spectators and the participation of rising talent from across the globe.
For the first time since the championship's inception, competitions in the Youth D category, for athletes aged 10 to 11, were held. This milestone reflects the organisers' commitment to broadening participation and supporting the development of young athletes from an early age.
Kerrith Brown, President of IMMAF, expressed pride in the ongoing partnership with the UAE Jiu-Jitsu and Mixed Martial Arts Federation. He noted that this edition is the largest since the championship began in 2019 and serves as an ideal platform for cultural exchange and for promoting positive values among youth worldwide.
He added that the UAE has become a leading model for hosting international sporting events, supported by its ambitious vision, world-class infrastructure and commitment to empowering youth in the field of sports.
Mohammed bin Dalmouj Al Dhaheri, Board Member of the UAE Jiu-Jitsu and Mixed Martial Arts Federation and Chairman of the MMA Committee, said, 'Hosting the championship in the Al Ain Region for the first time reflects the international sporting community's confidence in the UAE's organisational capabilities. It also highlights the country's efforts to enhance its sports infrastructure and expand its hosting map to cover all emirates.
He added that the inclusion of the Youth D category this year introduces a new dimension to the competition and aligns with a forward-thinking vision to support and nurture talent from a young age.
'This contributes to developing future champions, instilling a positive competitive spirit early on, and preparing a generation with the skills and mindset needed to represent the UAE on the global stage,' he stated.
Al Dhaheri expressed his sincere gratitude to the wise leadership and extended his appreciation to H.H. Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan for his generous patronage of this global event. He emphasised that such support serves as a powerful motivator for the younger generations to continue striving for excellence and to elevate Emirati sports to greater heights.
Kyle Wilson, coach of the United States national team, said his team is participating in the championship with around 30 male and female athletes, praising the outstanding level of organisation.

I cannot imagine it has been easy for them in the heat, but they continue, day in and day out, to present us Members with fantastic playing surfaces and a truly prestigious golf course.' Thee-way tie Determining the runners-up was far more contentious, with three pairs tied at 10 under par, net 62 – all delivering impressive performances. After the back-nine, back-six, back-three, and final-hole countbacks, Richard Green and Martin Stewart, as well as Bradley Valentine and Andrew Turnbull, could not be separated and were declared joint runners-up – a tremendously competitive and close finish for both pairings. Commiserations went to the father-son duo of Neil and Charles Gallagher, who also shot 10 under par, net 62, but missed the podium by the narrowest of margins. In the Gross Division, Mark Schoombie and Jacob Wissum delivered a superb performance with their bogey-free round of 66, six under par. The pair claimed victory by two strokes. The on-course competitions, all sponsored by The Brain and Performance Centre, added another layer of excitement to the day. Pin Perfect Half of the Gross-winning pair, Mark Schoombie, won Nearest the Pin on the par-3 8th with a brilliant shot landing just three feet from the hole, setting up partner Wissum for an easy tap-in birdie. Martin Stewart made his way to the stage for the second time in the evening, claiming Nearest the Pin in Two on the 10th. Alan McNamara took home the Nearest the Pin prize on the tricky par-3 14th after a superb tee shot that finished just inches from the hole. Mohammed's seals Orient Travel Monthly Stableford win with birdie-eagle blitz
Despite the sweltering summer heat, golfers turned out in strong numbers for the Orient Travel Monthly Stableford at Sharjah Golf & Shooting Club on Saturday. Emerging victorious was Shayan Mohammed, who impressed with a stellar round featuring six net birdies and two net eagles to finish four-under-par and accumulate 40 Stableford points. Shayan's performance secured him the top spot and earned him coveted prizes generously provided by the Saudi Tourism Authority, the event's proud sponsor. Close behind was Samiuddin Siddiqui, who posted 39 Stableford points. Despite narrowly missing out on first place, Samiuddin's excellent round earned him the runner-up position. Geraghty keeps cool to win Emirates Summer Open in searing Dubai heat at the Emirates
In blistering summer conditions and against a highly competitive field, Dave Geraghty rose to the occasion to win the 2025 Emirates Summer Open, delivering a solid round of golf. Held over the weekend at the iconic Emirates Golf Club, the event drew a spirited mix of seasoned members and rising talents, all eager to test their game under the glare of the Dubai sun. But it was Geraghty who kept his cool best, posting a commanding 40 Stableford points to top the leaderboard and seal a well-earned victory. Playing in a dynamic fourball that included Josie Tracey, the club's Lady Captain, along with Shaun Stathon and Douglas Yono, Geraghty set the tone early, making the most of the front nine with a strong start before holding firm on the back.
