"Kerala will become poverty-free state by November 1": CM Pinarayi Vijayan

India Gazette23-05-2025

Thiruvananthapuram (Kerala) [India], May 23 (ANI): Stressing that the state is continually advancing by blending people-centric policies with forward-looking industrial strategies, Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said on Friday that the state will become a poverty-free state by November 1 this year.
Speaking at a public event here to mark his government's (LDF) fourth anniversary, CM Vijayan said, 'Kerala continues to have the lowest poverty levels in the country. We've been able to achieve this through a strong and efficient public distribution system, which we've consistently strengthened over the years.'
'That's how Kerala continues to advance, by blending people-centric policies with forward-looking industrial strategies. Kerala is the state with the lowest inflation in the country. By November 1, Kerala will become a poverty-free state,' the Kerala CM emphasised.
Chief Minister Vijayan recalled that when the LDF government assumed office in 2016, one of the key concerns was transforming Kerala's investment climate.
'We engaged in detailed discussions with industrialists and stakeholders to understand their concerns and incorporated their feedback into policymaking. As a result, we amended laws, revised regulations, and introduced several structural reforms to enhance the ease of doing business in the state,' he said.
'Beyond policy changes, we also recognised the need to shift societal attitudes toward entrepreneurship. That's why we launched the 'Year of Entrepreneurship' initiative in Kerala. The Government of India itself acknowledged this initiative as a national model,' CM Vijayan said.
The Chief Minister also slammed the Centre, accusing it of denying the State its rightful entitlement in the tax devolution.
The Chief Minister said that if the tax share had been allocated fairly, Kerala would have received an additional Rs 2,282 crore in 2022-23 and Rs 2,071 crore in 2023-24, respectively.
'In the financial years 2022-23 and 2023-24, Kerala's share in the total own tax revenue generated by all Indian states was 3.7%. However, the tax devolution Kerala received from the Union government during the same period was only 1.53% and 1.13%, respectively. Based on Kerala's population share, the rightful entitlement should have been 2.7%,' he said.
'If the tax share had been allocated fairly, Kerala would have received an additional Rs2,282 crore in 2022-23 and Rs2,071 crore in 2023-24. This is not an extra demand but Kerala's rightful share,' he added. (ANI)

Yunus says sought PM Modi's help to stop Hasina from 'speaking to Bangladeshi people' but...

CA Yunus has said PM Modi ignored his request to stop former PM Sheikh Hasina from making political statements while staying in India. Speaking in London, Yunus said his government will continue efforts to extradite Hasina. read more Bangladesh's interim government chief, Muhammad Yunus, said on Wednesday that Prime Minister Narendra Modi ignored his request to stop former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina from making political statements while in India. Speaking at Chatham House in London, Yunus added that his government would continue its efforts to extradite Hasina from India so she can face charges in Bangladesh's International Crimes Tribunal, which recently indicted her for ordering a police crackdown on protestors last year. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD 'When I had a chance to speak with Prime Minister Modi, I simply said, 'You want to host her — I cannot force you to abandon that policy. But please help us ensure that she does not address the Bangladeshi people the way she currently is,'' Yunus said, while addressing the audience at the London-based think tank. More from World Yunus said he made this request to Modi during their bilateral meeting on the sidelines of the BIMSTEC Summit in Bangkok this April. 'She announces that she will speak on a particular day and at a particular time, and the whole of Bangladesh becomes very angry,' he added. 'Modi's answer — and I quote — was: 'It is social media; we cannot control it.' What can you say? This is an explosive situation, and you can't simply walk away by saying it's social media. Yet this continues,' Yunus remarked. Sheikh Hasina fled to India in August last year after being ousted following mass student protests. Since then, India has not responded to any of the extradition requests made by Dhaka since December, after the interim government took charge. Yunus said his government would persist in seeking Hasina's extradition following her indictment by Bangladesh's International Crimes Tribunal. 'The trial process has started. The tribunal has issued her notices for the crimes she has committed, and now she must respond,' he said. He also stated that they plan to involve Interpol and follow all proper legal procedures. 'We want the process to be legal and proper,' he added. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD Yunus further said that he wants strong ties with India but claimed that 'fake news in the Indian press' is damaging those efforts.

Buy or sell: Vaishali Parekh recommends three stocks to buy today — 12 June 2025

Buy or sell stocks: The Indian stock market continued to trade volatile for the sixth straight session on Wednesday. The Nifty 50 index ended higher for the sixth straight session and finished at 25,141. The BSE Sensex gained 123 points and closed at 82,515, while the Bank Nifty index went off 169 points and closed at 56,459. Sectorally, oil & gas, IT, and pharma were the major gainers, demonstrating strength even in a consolidating market. However, Nifty PSU Banks, FMCG, and metal sectors ended the day in the red. In a change from recent trends, the Nifty Mid-cap and Small-cap indices broke their winning streak today. The Nifty Mid-cap 100 Index fell by 0.49%, while the Nifty Small-cap 100 Index went down by 0.53%. However, market breadth remained decisively positive, with advancing stocks significantly outpacing declining ones, as indicated by a BSE advance-decline ratio of 1.24. Vaishali Parekh, Vice President of Technical Research at Prabhudas Lilladher, believes the Indian stock market bias has turned slightly cautious as the Nifty 50 index slipped after hitting 25,200 levels. However, the key benchmark index has closed above 25,116, meaning the positive sentiment remains intact. The Prabhudas Lilladher expert said the 50-stock index is facing a hurdle at 25,200, and the index may soon touch 25,600 after breaking above 25,200 on a closing basis. Speaking on the outlook of the Nifty 50 today, Vaishali Parekh said, "The Nifty 50 index, after consolidating since the last two days, witnessed a volatile session with the initial half progressed ahead to scale the 25,200 zones while post-lunch session succumbed to profit booking to end near the 25,150 level with sentiment slightly turning cautious. The index has the 25,000 zones as the near-term support, while on the upside, the 25,500 level can be expected in the coming sessions once there is a breach above the hurdle of 25,200 levels, with overall bias maintained strong." "The Bank Nifty index has witnessed another session of profit booking to slip further from the peak made near the 57,000 zone, and with the 55,800 to 56,000 band maintained as the important support from the current level, the index is still in the strong territory but would need a decisive breach above the 57,000 level to anticipate for fresh upward move in the coming days to maintain the positive bias intact," said Parekh. Parekh said that today, support for the Nifty is at 25000 levels, while resistance is at 25,300. The Bank Nifty will have a daily range of 56,000 to 57,200. Regarding stocks to buy today, Vaishali Parekh recommended these three buy or sell stocks: Lloyds Enterprises, Lupin, and Natco Pharma. 1] Lloyds Enterprises: Buy at ₹ 73, Target ₹ 83, Stop Loss ₹ 70; 2] Lupin: Buy at ₹ 2028, Target ₹ 2150, Stop Loss ₹ 1980; and 3] Natco Pharma: Buy at ₹ 935, Target ₹ 1000, Stop Loss ₹ 900.
