Father Of Boston Celtics Star Jaylen Brown Arrested For Attempted Murder

On Thursday morning, TMZ Sports dropped a bombshell report involving Boston Celtics star Jaylen Brown. His father, former boxer Marselles Brown, was arrested for attempted murder. Brown, the No. 3 pick from the 2016 NBA Draft, has lived up to the hype for the Celtics. He's an NBA Finals MVP and four-time All-Star. Boston failed to defend its championship this past season, but it wasn't because of Brown. The Georgia native averaged 22.2 points, 5.8 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game. Unfortunately for Brown, he'll now have to deal with drama off the court. According to TMZ, his father allegedly stabbed a youth football coach on Wednesday. This allegedly happened because of a dispute over a parking spot at All American Park. Las Vegas Metro Police said the suspect, Marselles Brown, fled the scene before being tracked down and taken into custody. Brown's father is set to appear in court later this Thursday. TMZ is reporting that the coach who was stabbed during this alleged incident was rushed to a nearby hospital and needed surgery. His condition hasn't been revealed at this time. If we had to guess, more details regarding this situation will be released in the coming days. Brown's father was a champion boxer. Marselles Brown used his 86-inch reach to his advantage during his boxing career, owning a 33-18-1 record with 25 knockouts. Although he turned pro in 1989, some of the best moments of his career came in the 2010s. In 2016, Marselles won the World Boxing Union World Championship. He said he came out of retirement to inspire his children. 'My main motivation for coming out of retirement was to show my kids that I never gave up on my dreams,' Marselles said in an interview with "I didn't want them to give up on theirs." Will this impact Brown's 2025 season with the Celtics? There was some buzz about the Celtics moving Brown this offseason. At the end of the day, the front office wisely held onto him. He's too valuable to part ways with, especially since he's just 28 years old. Although this is a very concerning situation for Brown and the Celtics, it shouldn't impact his status on the roster. Besides, he has proven time and time again that he's a true professional. As of now, Brown hasn't commented on his father's situation. He's currently getting ready for his 10th season with the Celtics. This story was originally reported by The Spun on Aug 21, 2025, where it first appeared in the NBA section. Jaylen Brown's father arrested in Las Vegas in parking lot stabbing incident

The father of Boston Celtics All-Star Jaylen Brown was arrested in Las Vegas and charged with attempted murder after reportedly stabbing another man in a parking lot. According to TMZ, Quenton Marselles Brown admitted dinging the victim's car with his door when he got out of his Lincoln Navigator. An argument ensued and Brown stabbed the victim in the back and stomach, the website reported. Court documents listed Brown as an inmate in the Clark County Detention Center on attempted murder charges. A person with knowledge of the incident, speaking on the condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to discuss it, confirmed that the man arrested is Jaylen Brown's father. The Associated Press requested the police report from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department but was told it wasn't immediately available. The Celtics declined to comment. Brown has enjoyed an incredible career in Boston since the Celtics took him third overall in the 2016 NBA Draft. He's been an NBA All-Star four times and was named to the All-NBA Second Team in 2023 when he averaged a career-best 26.6 points per game to go with 6.9 rebounds (also a career-high) and 3.5 assists. Brown and Jayson Tatum finally got over the hump and brought Boston its 18th NBA Championship in 2024, when Brown was named MVP of both the Eastern Conference Finals against the Indiana Pacers and the NBA Finals against the Dallas Mavericks. The Celtics beat the Mavs in five games in the Finals, thanks in large part to Brown's stellar defense on Dallas point guard Luka Doncic. Off the court, Brown has also done a lot for the Boston community, especially after he signed his $304 million max contract with the franchise. There will be a lot on Brown's shoulders during the 2025-26 season, as Tatum will likely be sidelined for the entire season after he ruptured his Achilles in Boston's second-round playoff loss to the New York Knicks in May.

Report: Golden State Warriors still believe they will sign Boston Celtics big Al Horford

The Golden State Warriors still believe they will sign Boston Celtics big man alum Al Horford once they finish resolving their current restricted free agency situation with forward Jonathan Kuminga, per recent reporting from Bleacher Report NBA analyst Jake Fischer. Speaking in a recent episode of the "NBA Insider Notebook," Fischer relates (h/t the Dallas Hoops Journal's Ashish Mathur) that "the Warriors still remain very confident that Al Horford is waiting for whatever finality will come to Jonathan Kuminga's restricted free agency with Golden State." "Depending on where the Warriors land in cap tax situation, I believe (Horford) is slated to potentially make upwards of the full taxpayer mid-level exception," the Bleacher Report analyst said. "There has also been some discussion about whether or not he could potentially be receiving a two-year deal with a player option on his deal as well." Horford is widely seen as all but certain to leave the Celtics organization whether he ends up signing with the Dubs or not, with retirement reportedly still on the table for the University of Florida alum. But if he does sign with the Dubs, Boston fans will be monitoring that player option should it pan out as such, with the potential to reunite with the Celtics once they return to contention a possibility through it, albeit an unlikely one.
