Female cheetah dies of injuries at Kuno
BHOPAL: Nabha, an 8-year-old female cheetah brought from Namibia, died at Kuno National Park on Saturday.
Foresters said the animal sustained serious injuries, likely during a hunting attempt inside her soft-release enclosure last week.
It suffered fractures in the left ulna and fibula along with some other injuries.
Despite receiving treatment for a week, the cheetah succumbed to injuries. A postmortem report is awaited for further details.
With Nabha's death, the cheetah population at Kuno now stands at 26, comprising 9 adults (6 females and 3 males) and 17 Indian-born cubs. According to foresters, all other cheetahs are healthy and adapting well.
Sixteen cheetahs were released into the wild and are regularly hunting and coexisting with other predators.
Two cheetahs released in Gandhisagar are also in good health, forester departmnet said in a statement. Recently, all cheetahs underwent anti-ectoparasitic treatment.

Theft at actor Sangeeta Bijlanis farmhouse: Police recover two fingerprints
Last Updated: Pune, Jul 19 (PTI) The Pune police investigating the theft at actor Sangeeta Bijlani's farmhouse in the Maval tehsil have recovered two fingerprints, officials said on Saturday. The farmhouse near the Pawna dam was broken into, and Rs 50,000 cash and a television set worth Rs 7,000 were allegedly stolen. The intruders also vandalised the house, according to the police. The theft and vandalism came to light when Bijlani visited the property in Tikona village on Friday, after a gap of four months. 'A forensic team collected samples from the scene. Two fingerprints have been recovered and are being analysed. It is to be seen whether the fingerprints are of the thieves or anyone accompanying Bijlaniji on Friday," said Lonavala Rural police inspector Dinesh Tayde. He added that the Digital Video Recorder (DVR) connected to the CCTV system had been deliberately disconnected. 'We have recovered the DVR, and it will be analysed to check if any footage was captured before the disconnection," Tayde said. Mohammad Mujeeb Khan, an associate of former Indian cricketer Mohammad Azharuddin, submitted the complaint with Lonavala rural police on Bijlani's behalf. Khan told PTI that Bijlaniji had kept Rs 50,000 in her father's cupboard for emergencies. The money was allegedly stolen during the break-in. Police are yet to ascertain the exact date of the theft. In her complaint, Bijlani said that the main door and window grills were broken, a television set was missing, and several household items, including beds, a refrigerator, and CCTV units, had been damaged or vandalised. Neha was actually Abdul: Bangladeshi man arrested after 28 years in India
For almost 8 years, the residents of Bhopal's Budhwara area knew 'Neha' as a transgender woman living in their neighbourhood. But under the false identity of 'Neha', Abdul Kalam, a Bangladeshi national, was living in India for the past three decades. Abdul used his fake passport to travel back and forth to Bangladesh.(X) Neha was caught in a late-night operation by Bhopal Police earlier this week, India Today reported. Abdul, who is now under arrest, not only assumed a new gender identity but also forged Indian documents, including an Aadhaar card, voter ID, and even a passport. Authorities said that Abdul spent two decades in Mumbai before moving to Madhya Pradesh. He also assumed a transgender identity after becoming a member of the local hijra community. He used his fake passport to travel back and forth to Bangladesh without raising suspicion, the police said. Abdul posed as 'Neha Kinnar' in Bhopal's Budhwara locality, had lived in the city for nearly a decade. Before that, he reportedly spent close to 20 years in Mumbai after entering India illegally at the age of 10. His assumed identity as a transgender woman helped him evade detection by authorities and blend seamlessly into the local community, the publication reported. "We received credible information through a confidential informant, which led to his identification and subsequent arrest. He has been residing in Bhopal for nearly a decade, but prior to that, he lived in Maharashtra. During this time, he had also returned to Bangladesh, which he managed to do using forged Indian credentials. The investigation is ongoing, and we are closely coordinating with central agencies," senior police official Shalini Dixit told India Today. Authorities have also confirmed that throughout these 30 years, Abdul travelled to and from Bangladesh using his counterfeit Indian passport, raising significant concerns about the integrity of national documentation systems and border security. Given the implications for national security, the case is under the purview of the of Intelligence Bureau, the Anti-Terrorism Squad, and cybercrime units. Cybercrime specialists are now analysing Abdul's seized mobile phone, mining call logs and other related data. Police are also preparing to conduct a gender verification test to determine whether Abdul's transgender identity was genuine. Abdul, who has been placed under 30-day detention, is currently being held at Talaiya Police Station under high security, with restricted access permitted only to the station in-charge and two designated female officers, the publication further reported. The Centre has been notified of Neha's arrest.

‘Take us home': Birbhum women seek Didi's help in vid appeal from B'desh
1 2 Kolkata: In a video message, members of two Birbhum families pushed to Bangladesh by BSF made an appeal to Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee to arrange for their return to India. TOI had earlier reported that six Birbhum residents, including three minors, were nabbed by Delhi cops on June 18 and sent to Bangladesh on June 26. Two habeas corpus petitions were filed in Calcutta High Court. Among the detained were Sweety Bibi and her two minor sons, and Danish Sheikh, his wife Sunali Khatun and their 5-year-old son. "We are not Bangladeshis. We went to Delhi for work but police labelled us Bangladeshis. We showed Aadhaar cards, but Delhi police did not accept them. We are from Birbhum's Paikar, we have our ancestral home there," Sweety and Sunali said in their appeal. The two women and the children stood with folded hands as they spoke. "The police took away our mobile phones and money. They tortured us and sent us here. We have nothing to feed our children, no place to stay. Mamatadidi, please take us back," they said.
