Billy Connolly releases new artwork reflecting on his younger years

STV News13-06-2025
Sir Billy Connolly has released new limited-edition artworks that reflect on his younger years.
The collection, titled Windswept & Interesting, features a stainless-steel sculpture of a dancing Teddy Boy figure, alongside two vibrant hand-signed giclée artworks.
The project name is taken from Billy's number one bestselling memoir, released in 2021.
'These artworks are my youth as I'd like it to have been, but it wasn't,' said the comic.
'I would have loved to have been a Teddy Boy, but I was too young and my parents wouldn't let me do it. It's the worst reason not to be a Teddy Boy – because your parents won't let you.' It was Scottish folk singer and songwriter Archie Fisher that coined the description of the comedian many years ago when Billy was performing at Methil Steelworks Club in Fife.
He was wearing white velvet flared trousers when Archie said, 'You're looking windswept and interesting.'
'I thought 'Yes. That will do me',' explained Billy. 'And that's been me ever since.'
The phrase has followed him throughout his career, providing guidance for his attitude, outlook, and style.
The 82-year-old has made many memorable style statements over the last six decades, from black leotards and banana boots to outrageously patterned shirts and suits.
Fashion has always been a huge part of his on-stage presence, and his new collection of artwork explores Billy's early style influences.
Billy decorated the character's suit with his signature line work – a nod to his disregard for conventionality and love of pattern, colour and clashing socks.
This detailing is added to the stainless-steel sculpture in the form of texture, bringing this brilliantly joyful character to life.
Billy said: 'This is me, as I see myself, and I'm so proud of him.'

The Fortune Hotel Season 2: release schedule, eliminations and where to watch

ITV competition show The Fortune Hotel is in full season 2 swing, with 11 pairs of contestants battling it out to find a briefcase stuffed with a £250,000 prize. Hot off the heels of BBC show The Traitors, in eight episodes players must work out which pair has the winning briefcase, and the goal is to end up with it at the end of the show. Daily challenges decide what order players can either keep or swap their briefcases, with the quarter of a mill secretly changing hands throughout the series. Eight briefcases are empty, while the ninth has an 'early checkout card' – which eliminates players landed with it at the end of each episode. Presenter Stephen Mangan told Metro how the show can be pretty savage, as winning requires contestants to lie and cheat. 'It's really difficult to brutally pull the plug on another pair and send them home, but you have to do it,' he explained. The series began with 11 pairs of contestants who know each other in some capacity, much like Race Across The World's format. Hoping for a chance to win were best friends Maz and Max; fellow besties Chelsey and Briony; father and son Atholl and John; brothers Jake and Mike; couple Allan and Jacob; couple Nella and Tope, partners Fred and Min; mum and daughter Martina and Briony; friends Gurk and Guv; and dad and daughter James and Yasmine. Players come from all walks of life, with jobs ranging from tech to cleaning, and retirees are also having a stab. Last week's episode ended on a cliffhanger – spoiler ahead – as with the introduction of a second early check-out card, both Fred and Min and Allan and Jacob seemed to be at risk. However host Stephen revealed only one of the pairs would be going home – as voted for by their other contestants, ouch . Tonight revealed Maz and Max sent home Allan and Jacob through tears, leaving them 'gutted'. So far other eliminated contestants include cleaning business owners Briony and Chelsey; retired police officer Atholl and son John from the Scottish borders; Wigan-born brothers Mike and Jake; and salesman Guv and poker player Gurks. Episodes are airing weekly on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Fundraiser launched for volunteers who found body of comedian in mountains

The family of Scottish comedian Gary Little have launched a fundraiser for the volunteers who found his body in the Highlands on Friday. Little had been hillwalking on Five Sisters of Kintail in the Highlands when he failed to return home. His body was later recovered by Kintail Mountain Rescue, assisted by Glenelg Mountain Rescue Team, Police Scotland and the Coastguard. Police confirmed that the death was being treated as 'unexplained, but not suspicious'. A report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal in due course. The 61-year-old was a regular at comedy clubs in Scotland as well as the Edinburgh Fringe and Glasgow International Comedy Festival. Following the news of Little's death, tributes poured in on social media from comedy clubs and comedians alike, highlighting his comedic skill and 'joy he brought to the world'. His sisters, Lorraine, Alison, Karen, and Claire, have launched a fundraiser for Kintail Mountain Rescue in honour of their late brother, who they described as an 'avid mountain walker'. So far, £2,160 has been raised. The GoFundMe read: 'As a family we are so very grateful that the volunteers from Kintail Mountain Rescue stayed with him until the help of HMCG Helicopter from Stornaway arrived and this comforts us knowing 'the big man was not alone'. 'As an avid mountain walker Gary was appreciative of the work these volunteer based organizations done and how valuable they are so any donation would be extremely appreciated. 'Thank you from his sisters, Lorraine, Alison, Karen and Claire.' You can donate to the fundraiser here.
