Cricket-Brook and Root give England scent of famous win
The touring side, needing victory to level the series, lead by 56 runs with four sessions left, and although Brook was out just before the interval for a brilliant 111, Root remained on 98 to keep England in control with Jacob Bethell on one.
Brook, who survived on 19 when Mohammed Siraj caught him in the deep before stepping back on to the boundary cushion, struck two sixes and 12 fours to reach his 10th test century off 91 balls.
Root provided the perfect foil, continuing his consistent form throughout the series, as the Indian bowlers struggled to get much movement under grey skies.
Once past three figures, Brook launched an all-out attack, hitting Akash Deep for two fours in an over before attempting a third with a wild swing and skying a catch to Siraj.
Brook's bat flew out of his hands as he played the stroke and he had to retrieve it before returning to the pavilion to a standing ovation from the crowd.
Bethell got away with a reckless pull which landed just short of a fielder and Root survived a huge shout for lbw off Siraj, getting the decision overturned on review after he was given out by the umpire.
India had the better of the morning session after England resumed on 50-1, dismissing Ben Duckett for 54 and Ollie Pope for 27 to leave the hosts wobbling on 106-3.
Siraj's error, however, changed the momentum in a fluctuating game once again.

Gkp man cycles to Annapurna Base Camp, hoists Tricolour at 13,550ft
1 2 Gorakhpur : In a remarkable display of endurance and determination, 29-year-old adventure cyclist Uma Singh from Gorakhpur scripted history by cycling to Annapurna Base Camp (ABC) in Nepal, situated at an altitude of 13,550feet, where he hoisted the tricolour on Aug 1. With this feat, Uma becomes the second Indian and the fourth cyclist in the world to conquer the treacherous off-road trail to ABC on a bicycle. The journey began on July 26 from the Vikas Bhawan campus in Gorakhpur as part of a Tiranga Yatra, following which Uma commenced his cycling expedition from Pokhara on July 27. Over the next six days, he braved steep ascents, relentless rains, dense forests, rocky terrain and slippery trails to reach the summit. He completed the descent and returned safely to Pokhara by Aug 3 evening. Uma described the journey as one of the most grueling experiences of his life. He said: "The unpredictable weather, rocky climbs, leeches, insects and the constant fear of getting lost in the forest — every moment tested my limits. Sometimes the trail would disappear under heavy rain. But I kept telling myself, 'Just a little more, the summit is near.'" Reflecting on the moment he unfurled the triolour at the base camp, Uma called it "divine, surreal and blessed by the grace of Maa Annapurna. " TNN

India's Harish, Tayin enter third round in Asian Surfing Championships
Chennai, Aug 6 (PTI) India's Harish Prakash and Tayin Arun produced fine efforts to enter the third round of the Under-18 boys' category in the Asian Surfing Championships here on Wednesday. On the third day of the tournament, Arun registered the best score among the Indian competitors — 9.23 — while moving to the third round behind behind Tinn Johnson of Thailand, who logged 9.60 points.
