RPF rescues over 65k trafficked and runaway children in last four years
Vijaya Rahatkar, Chairperson of the National Commission for Women (NCW), lauded the RPF's efforts and highlighted the grave nature of human trafficking, describing it as 'one of the gravest human rights violations,' with women and girls being disproportionately affected. She emphasised the importance of early detection and timely intervention by the RPF in addressing this menace.
To enhance the capabilities of RPF personnel in preventing trafficking of women and children, as well as other crimes against women, the NCW and RPF have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on the occasion of the World Day Against Trafficking in Persons today, said a statement here.
Union Minister for Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw, who attended the event, shared the development on the social media platform X, marking the collaboration as a key step forward in strengthening anti-trafficking measures.
The MoU was signed by Shivani Dey, Deputy Secretary of NCW, and S. Sudhakar, DIG/Projects, RPF, as per the statement.
Manoj Yadava, Director General of RPF, reiterated the force's commitment to the cause. 'Indian Railways, with its vast network and reach, holds a unique position and responsibility to act as a frontline deterrent against trafficking,' he said. He added that the partnership with NCW would enhance operational response and community engagement, enabling more effective prevention and rescue efforts.
The MoU facilitates the organization of structured training programs and sensitization initiatives for RPF personnel. Public awareness efforts, including the dissemination of informational materials at railway stations and on trains, will also be undertaken.
Additionally, anti-human trafficking units (AHTUs), already operational at over 750 locations, will be leveraged to strengthen surveillance and ensure immediate response to suspected cases, said the statement.

In a post on X on Wednesday, Dmitriev, who is CEO of the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF), thanked his followers for their 'kind wishes for a successful visit of Steve Witkoff to Moscow,' adding that 'Dialogue will prevail.' Dmitriev was also part of the Russian delegation which welcomed Witkoff at Vnukovo Airport, and the two were later seen walking through Zaryadye Park near the Kremlin. Later in the day, Witkoff held face-to-face talks with Putin, which lasted around three hours. Kremlin aide Yury Ushakov, speaking on the Putin-Witkoff talks noted that both sides managed to hold a constructive and productive conversation which focused on the Ukraine conflict and 'prospects for US-Russia strategic cooperation.'

Third satellite launch pad project set for March 2029 completion
New Delhi, Aug 6 (UNI) The Third Satellite Launch Pad (TLP) Project, a significant expansion of India's space infrastructure, has made steady progress following the receipt of financial sanction in March 2025, the Government informed Parliament today. It will be fully commissioned by March 2029, it said. Dr. Jitendra Singh, Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science and Technology and Department of Space in a written reply to Lok Sabha said, 'The preliminary geo-technical investigation and topographical survey of the designated site were completed by May 2025, laying the groundwork for further development. Presently, bids for road construction and electrical works are being evaluated.' The project is structured around four critical milestones: completion of civil engineering works by May 2028, establishment of fluid handling systems and propellant storage facilities by July 2028, installation of launch pad facilities by September 2028, and full commissioning by March 2029, he said. Dr Jitendra Singh shared that the Department of Space has announced plans to engage Indian private sector firms and MSMEs through a transparent tendering process aligned with the government's Make-in-India and Atmanirbhar Bharat initiatives as envisaged by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Actor Kalabhavan Navas dies of heart attack, says Autopsy Report
South Kochi, Aug 2 (UNI) Popular actor and mimicry artist Kalabhavan Navas, who was found dead in a hotel room in Chottanikkara on Friday night, died of a heart attack that led to a fall and subsequent head injury, according to a preliminary post-mortem report released today. The autopsy, conducted at 10 a.m on Saturday at Kalamassery Medical College, indicated that the heart attack occurred around 8 p.m the previous night. The report also noted that Navas had previously exhibited symptoms suggestive of cardiac distress. Navas was staying at a hotel in Chottanikkara while working on the film Prakambanam. After completing the day's shoot, he returned to his room to pack. Hotel staff said he had informed them that he would check out by 8 p.m. However, when he had not done so by 8:30 p.m, a hotel employee went to his room and found him lying unresponsive near the door, which was unlocked.
