Security of Egyptians in Libya top priority
Under the directives of Foreign Minister Badr Abdelaaty, an operation room has been established, involving all relevant departments, to ensure thorough monitoring of the situation of Egyptians in Libya, the senior diplomat said in a statement Friday.
The goal is to check on their safety, respond immediately to any distress calls, address their concerns, and ensure their security through communication with all relevant parties, he added.
Habashi emphasized that the safety and security of Egyptian citizens is the state's top priority in dealing with these developments, and that Egyptian authorities are fully prepared to respond to any emergencies.
He added that multiple communication channels have been made available for Egyptians in Libya to contact the Egyptian Embassy or the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Cairo regarding any situation or issue faced by any Egyptian citizen on Libyan soil.
The deputy minister mentioned that he is personally in direct contact with numerous individuals and groups of Egyptians to check on their wellbeing and address their needs.
He urged Egyptians in Libya to exercise caution, avoid conflict zones, adhere to the instructions of the Libyan authorities, and immediately contact the Egyptian Embassy if they face any danger.
Contact numbers and communication methods are regularly published on the official website and social media accounts of the Egyptian Embassy and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, he concluded. (MENA)

Day one of 2025 Senate elections voting ends across Egypt
Voting for Egypt's 2025 Senate elections concluded for the day on Monday, with polling stations closing at 9 pm in all governorates. The election is taking place under full judicial supervision and heightened security, to ensure transparency and integrity. A total of 9,500 judges from the State Lawsuits Authority and the Administrative Prosecution Authority are overseeing the process, supervising 8,286 polling stations nationwide. High voter turnout was reported in several areas, particularly in the final hours of the day. According to the National Elections Authority (NEA), domestic voting will resume on Tuesday, 5 August, from 9am to 9pm for the second and final day. Egyptians abroad cast their votes on 1 and 2 August at 136 polling stations located in Egyptian embassies and consulates across 117 countries. Preliminary results from the first round are expected on 12 August. If no decisive outcome is reached, a runoff will be held both inside and outside Egypt. Final runoff results are scheduled for announcement on 4 September. According to the NEA, 428 candidates are competing for individual seats—186 independents and 242 affiliated with political parties. The Senate, Egypt's upper chamber of parliament, serves in a consultative capacity, while legislative authority remains with the House of Representatives. The 300-member Senate is composed of three equal segments: one-third elected through individual candidacy, one-third via closed party lists, and one-third appointed by the president.
