Opposition will derail Punjab's development if voted to power, says Arvind Kejriwal
He made the statement while addressing a public gathering on the martyrdom day of freedom fighter Udham Singh and laying the foundation stone for development projects worth ₹85 crore in Shaheed Udham Singh Wala town.
Accompanied by Punjab chief minister Bhagwant Mann, cabinet minister Aman Arora and senior AAP leader Manish Sisodia, Kejriwal criticised previous governments led by Congress and the Akali-BJP alliance for 'looting public wealth' and 'introducing drugs' into the state. He accused them of misusing power, promoting corruption and neglecting vital sectors like education and healthcare.
'The previous regimes ruined Punjab. They never cared for the youth, hospitals were in shambles and public money was mercilessly looted for personal gain,' Kejriwal said. He added that even after 75 years of Independence, the vision of India's freedom fighters remained unfulfilled due to the actions of such leaders.
The event was also a tribute to Shaheed Udham Singh, the legendary freedom fighter who avenged the Jallianwala Bagh massacre by assassinating Michael O'Dwyer in 1940.
Chief minister Bhagwant Mann, speaking at the event, highlighted the importance of commemorating martyrs and preserving their legacy. 'It is our solemn duty to honour heroes like Shaheed Udham Singh. He waited 21 years to avenge the massacre, and his courage laid the foundation for India's eventual independence,' Mann said.
Mann emphasised that naming airports, universities and institutions after national heroes helps in keeping their sacrifices alive in public memory. He also criticised the British colonial administration for honoring collaborators with titles like 'Sir', citing the example of a family that hosted General Dyer on the very day of the Jallianwala Bagh massacre.
'Every inch of this sacred land carries the legacy of our Gurus, saints and martyrs, who showed us how to resist tyranny and injustice,' the CM concluded.

Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Wednesday called for a thorough inquiry and demanded that the ₹1.04 crore spent by the previous Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government on a British-era 'fake' 'phansi-ghar' (execution room) at the Delhi Assembly be recovered from former Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. Terming the move a 'deception of people' and an 'insult to martyrs', Ms. Gupta said the installation was based on no official documentation and essentially a repurposed 'tiffin room' falsely portrayed as a historic phansi-ghar to mislead the public. During a discussion in the Assembly, she said an FIR should be registered against Mr. Kejriwal and the structure be removed before August 25. Noting that the phansi-ghar was inaugurated on August 9, 2022, Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta said the 1911-12 building map accessed from the National Archives clearly marked the space as a tiffin room. 'I challenge AAP to find one historian who can verify it was an execution room,' he said. 'Distortion of heritage' 'Such tiffin rooms are in other offices too. You will know about them if you conduct an inquiry. Without any documents, it was declared as an execution room. We are ashamed of this. He [Kejriwal] had a disease of lying,' the CM said, terming it a 'distortion of heritage'. AAP legislator Sanjeev Jha said many execution rooms from the British era are not officially recorded and accused the ruling party of 'standing with the British'.

Clarify land pooling policy: HC to Punjab
The Punjab government on Wednesday submitted in the Punjab and Haryana High Court that the recently introduced Land Pooling Policy, 2025, would be kept on hold till the next date of hearing, i.e. Thursday. The court was hearing a writ petition that challenged the Punjab government's land pooling policy introduced in June this year. The court asked the State government to clarify whether an Environmental Impact Assessment had been carried out before notifying the Land Pooling Policy, 2025. The court, in its interim order, directed the government to inform the court if there was any provision in the policy for the rehabilitation of the landless labourers and others who do not own any land but are dependent on the land for their sustenance. Petitioner Gurdeep Singh Gill had submitted that the policy was notified without carrying out the necessary environmental and social impact assessment, which is an essential prerequisite for the acquisition of land under Sections 4 to 8 of the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013. The petitioner, a resident of Phagla village in Ludhiana district, owns 6 acres of land, which was allotted to his father as a displaced person in lieu of their land in Lyallpur district in Pakistan. The petitioner argued that they have invested and have made improvements to the land, which is now fertile but has been included in the policy. Mr. Gill also contended that there is no provision for providing compensation at the time of acquisition, and only an annual meagre livelihood allowance would be paid. The ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has hit out at the Opposition parties for spreading 'misleading propaganda' against the State government's policy, with party leaders describing it as 'farmer-friendly'. The Punjab Cabinet in June gave its nod to the policy and asserted that not a single yard will be forcibly acquired from the owners.

Min mandates use of Made in India goods in 3 depts
1 2 Jaipur: Cabinet minister Madan Dilawar announced Wednesday that only Made in India products must be used in education, Panchayati Raj, and Sanskrit education departments. He said only products not available in the country and requiring imports can be used after approval from the minister. "This initiative has been started to realise the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Make in India campaign . This will increase the use of goods manufactured in India, and it will also have a positive impact on our economy. Many foreign countries earn profit from us by selling their products in India, but they use that money to help our enemy country," said Dilawar. Speaking to TOI, he added that if any foreign product is used in these departments, personal recovery will be done from the officer concerned. "If any officer or employee of these departments purchases foreign goods, then not only will strict action be taken against them, but the payment of the purchased goods will also be recovered from them," said Dilawar. He also appealed to women ahead of Rakshabandhan to purchase only indigenous products for the festival. "If you go to the market to buy Rakhi, buy only locally made Rakhi made by our Indian artisans. Boycott foreign Rakhis, especially those made in China, do not buy them. With this, you will not only serve the country but also provide employment to fellow citizens. Adopt Swadeshi and make the country strong," he said. Reacting to the announcement, state Congress President Govind Singh Dotasra said that the decision was inappropriate and irrational decision.
