Ye Compares Forthcoming ‘Bully' Album To ‘The Miseducation Of Lauryn Hill'
The rapper recently appeared on Justin Laboy's The Download podcast and divulged information regarding his eleventh solo studio album, which he feels is akin to Lauryn Hill's seminal solo album, The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill.
'Yeah, because you lean on a bar that brings somebody down — that was always rap,' Yeezy told Laboy at one point during the conversation.
'This is more the way I remember Lauryn Hill['s] album, the way I remember Miseducation. I feel it is my Miseducation. It is my Gnarls Barkley album. Because Bully has a title and connotation that a lot of people are anti-bully. But I'm just hyper-next-level frequency right now.'
Ye has been a longtime fan of Hill, famously sampling the songstress' MTV Unplugged No. 2.0 cut 'Mystery of Iniquity' on his GRAMMY-nominated 2004 single, 'All Falls Down.' However, he couldn't use the original sample on the official release of the track, as Syleena Johnson appears on The College Dropout album version.
Announced in 2024, Bully is scheduled for release on June 15, which coincides with the rapper's eldest daughter, North's, 12th birthday. The 47-year-old recently opened up about his daughter inspiring him to focus on making music again, due to her own love for the craft.
'This little girl made me love music again,' he wrote in the caption of an Instagram post in January. 'She asked me to make beats for her. I got back on the ASR Chopped up beats for album and chopped every beat with my bare hand for BULLY.'
Ye has teased various songs from the album in recent months, including 'Beauty and the Beast' and 'Preacher Man,' as well as new music that surfaced following his headline-grabbing GRAMMY appearance with wife, Bianca Censori.

Chance the Rapper Says He Hasn't Talked to Ye ‘In a Long Time'
Though Chance the Rapper and Ye go way back, it seems their paths have diverged over the years. In advance of Chanoe's forthcoming album, Star Line, he sat down with New Rory & Mal, where he was asked if Ye appears on the project. 'I haven't talked to him in a long time,' Chance told the titular hosts at around the 37:45 minute mark. 'He's one of the most influential people in my music. He was at my wedding, our kids have hung out together. I always love Kanye, and but just being honest, I haven't talked to him in a while. 'I feel like I've been hella busy—I'm working on shit,' the Chicago rapper continued. 'He's obviously been busy. When Chance was asked if he would reach out to Ye once things settle, Chance said, 'No.' 'The way that I think about my world is, I be thinking about my day. So what I gotta do that day and what I'm working on for the next two weeks, maybe six months,' he said. 'My relationships and how I view people as friends and stuff is just, 'Have I loved this person? And have they ever willfully and intentionally betrayed me?' 'I got friends that I haven't talked to in five or six, seven years. It's not like I'm anticipating some conversation, something where it's like, 'Alright, now it's my time to fix you and tell your ass what you've been tweaking on.' No s**tlike that.' He then explained that he and Ye aren't 'necessarily peers,' and that—even though they've collaborated—Ye was and is one of Chance's idols. 'I'm also a lot younger than them n***as. There's also different ways that people can even have friendships because we're not necessarily peers. My first album that I consciously wanted to have was The College Dropout. So I have a different reverence for him, or just understanding of how my life went and how it influenced things I do. 'I think most rappers got a rapper that was they first album, and probably from they city. So imagine if yours was Kanye West, and imagine if you worked with them, and imagine all that shit,' Chance reflected. 'I'm always gonna have my own opinions and I'ma always state my opinions,' he added. 'For the most part, I'ma just be me, I'ma let people be them. And so no, there's not a time where I'm like, 'Man, I gotta make sure I hit up Kanye before I put this album out or after I put this album out,' or anybody.' The pair first worked together almost a decade ago, on The Life of Pablo, which arrived on Feb. 14, 2016. Chance appears on the opening album cut, 'Ultralight Beam," and also wrote on a handful of songs, including 'Father Stretch My Hands, Pt. 1,' 'Famous,' 'Feedback,' and 'Waves.' Ye later appeared on Chance's Coloring Book mixtape track 'All We Got,' which dropped a few months later, on May 13, 2016. Chance's second studio album, Star Line,' is set to arrive on Friday. Doodles! Doodles as far as the eye can see! The full-throttle heat and humidity have finally let up on this unseasonably pleasant August Saturday in New York City, and it seems that everyone and their mother (and their dog) is taking full advantage of the good weather. Designer dogs promenade around the Union Square farmers market in Burberry harnesses; a pair of pups bask in the shade of a lush green tree in matching Fendi outfits. 'So many of our dogs hate doodles,' jokes Mallory Kerley, the marketing director at Muddy Paws, a New York–based dog rescue. Today, a sampling of Muddy Paws' adoptable pups are shooting their Dogue cover with photographer and social media fixture The Dogist. The spectacle that has many purebred and hybrid dog owners conspicuously lingering, hoping that their pricey pups will catch his—and his 7.7 million Instagram followers'—eye. But today is about the Muddy Paws brigade (another testament to 'adopt, don't shop'), an amuse-bouche of blocky-headed pit mixes, seniors, and other adoptables. Among them are Elmo, a dignified senior Chihuahua; Cora, a heart-of-gold pitty who sits sidesaddle; and Brave, an energetic puppy whose cuteness earns squeals of delight from people on the street. Many of the Muddy Paws gang have come to the rescue under devastating circumstances, victims of neglect and abuse. Belfast, a friendly, tiger-striped Bully breed, was brought in with lacerations on his neck, still visible underneath his collar. Benji, a furry white senior with golden spots, was found abandoned in the subway, so matted and dirty his rescuers thought his coat was brown. Nicki, an adorable lowrider, was found tied to a tree, severely emaciated. 'I fell in love with her personality,' Nicki's foster, Ali, says. 'She's a sweet little love bug. She goes on her back for belly rubs. She'll nudge you for more. She's just like this sweet, silly little kid.' Muddy Paws is entirely foster reliant, but every weekend most of the available dogs convene outside Petco in Union Square or PetSmart in Flatiron. Some lounge inside the shelter's van, their names written on its transparent side panel, while others take meetings with potential parents and charm passersby on the sidewalk, dressed in Adopt Me vests. The days are long, with volunteers splitting morning and afternoon shifts. 'We really try to maximize their visibility and ability to get adopted,' Kerley says. On an average Saturday, 12 to 15 dogs find their forever homes. You, too, can adopt these Dogue cover stars. Well, most of them at least; some of these lovable pups found their forever homes before the shoot even wrapped (talk about star quality!), while others have been snapped up in the following weeks.

New Ye documentary 'In Whose Name' offers raw look at crumbling Kim Kardashian marriage
A new documentary is providing an intimate and unfiltered look into the life of the controversial Grammy-winning rapper Ye. The teaser trailer, released Aug. 13, shows Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, wrestling with the decision to go off medication for his bipolar disorder. In a series of quickly stitched together scenes, the rapper is seen arguing with his ex-wife, Kim Kardashian, delivering controversial remarks amid a failed campaign for president, and conceiving a church, which would later become his faith-based concert series "Sunday Service." The film, titled "In Whose Name?," will hit theaters Sept. 19. It was shot over six years by Director Nico Ballesteros, who compiled 3,000 hours of never-before-seen footage, which he began capturing at 18 years old, when Ye invited the aspiring filmmaker into his inner circle. 'In Whose Name' documentary trailer: Watch The film promises an unprecedented look at Ye's crumbling marriage to Kardashian, who can be heard at one point in the trailer saying through tears: "Your personality was not like this a few years ago." The pair divorced in 2021. "This film presents a raw and often unsettling portrait, without commentary or conclusion, leaving viewers to interpret the events for themselves," Simran A. Singh, a producer on the film, said in a release alongside the trailer. "Nico was living alongside Ye, camera in hand, not fully knowing what he was capturing or where it would lead, and that's exactly what makes the footage so powerful." Always an outspoken public figure, in recent years Ye has become more erratic and, at times, hateful, often spewing antisemitic theories online and claiming slavery was a choice. He has been hit with several lawsuits alleging antisemitism and sexual harassment in the workplace, and has been dropped from several major brand partnerships over his increasingly polarizing rhetoric. The latest lawsuit, filed originally in October and amended in July by a former personal assistant, alleges Ye subjected her to sex trafficking, assault, battery and false imprisonment. A representative for Ye claimed at the time that the suit was an extortion attempt. "They're killing our ability to think outside the box," Ye can be heard yelling in the teaser trailer, offering insight, perhaps, into the version of the rapper viewers will begin to see at the end of the film. "I'd rather be dead than to be on medication," he says. "The best thing about being an artist and bipolar, anything you do and say is an art piece."
