Auto expansion: Sona Comstar forms $20 million joint venture with Jinnaite to enter China; move aims to tap booming EV market
Sona Comstar Auto parts maker Sona BLW Precision Forgings Ltd (Sona Comstar) has entered into a joint venture with China-based Jinnaite Machinery Co Ltd (JNT) to make a strategic foray into the Chinese electric vehicle (EV) market. As per news agency PTI, the combined investment in the joint venture is pegged at $20 million (around Rs 167 crore), with Sona Comstar contributing $12 million for a 60 per cent stake. According to a company statement, JNT will bring in $8 million worth of assets and business during the first phase. The JV is scheduled to begin operations in the second half of FY26 to fulfil existing orders from both EV and non-EV customers. The new entity will manufacture and supply driveline systems and components to automotive OEMs in China and global markets. Sona Comstar, already the largest supplier of differential assemblies for battery electric vehicles (BEVs) in North America and a leading player in Europe, sees this move as a significant milestone in expanding its Asian footprint. 'The driveline manufacturing operations in China align with the company's strategy to expand its presence in Asian markets, particularly in India, China, Japan, and South Korea,' said Sona Comstar, adding that it also plans to strengthen its market position in North America and Europe. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like American Investor Warren Buffett Recommends: 5 Books For Turning Your Life Around Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo Highlighting the importance of the move, the company cited China's dominance in the EV space. In 2024, China accounted for 11 million EV sales, two-thirds of global EV sales, with domestic OEMs contributing 76 per cent of this volume. 'This joint venture marks a significant step in our strategy to expand into the rapidly growing Asian markets,' said Sona Comstar MD and Group CEO Vivek Vikram Singh. 'As the largest electric vehicle market in the world and a leader in EV technologies, China offers tremendous opportunities for innovation and growth.' Singh added that with a strong order book already in place, the JV is 'well-positioned for strong growth' and is expected to commence operations later this year. JNT, which runs a world-class foundry using patented casting technology, also contributes to national standard-setting in China. According to the company, the JV leverages Sona Comstar's strengths in driveline design, forging and machining, and JNT's casting expertise, supplier network, and regulatory knowledge, providing a strong base for future growth. Indian Overseas Bank Q1 earnings: Profit hits Rs 1,111 crore; aims 12% annual growth
Representative image Public sector lender Indian Overseas Bank (IOB) reported its highest-ever quarterly net profit of Rs 1,111 crore in the April–June 2025 quarter, marking a 76 per cent year-on-year jump from Rs 633 crore. The bank, headquartered in Chennai, said it is confident of sustaining and growing this performance through the rest of FY26. 'Exactly. One hundred per cent sure. We are very confident of maintaining this and growing it from here,' said IOB Managing Director and CEO Ajay Kumar Srivastava, as quoted by news agency PTI. He pointed out that the net profit 'quarter on quarter… is increasing' and the graph has been 'very consistent.' He added that the Q1 growth came despite it typically being a 'lean quarter.' In the previous quarter (January–March 2025), IOB had posted a net profit of Rs 1,051 crore — also a record at the time. Looking ahead, Srivastava said the bank is targeting 12 per cent overall business growth in FY26, similar to the previous year. 'That is very comfortable to maintain. That is the minimum also. Beyond that also we are expecting to grow,' he noted. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like American Investor Warren Buffett Recommends: 5 Books For Turning Your Life Around Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo On recoveries, the bank aims to meet its Rs 4,500 crore annual guidance. 'In Q1, we have done Rs 851 crore and remaining we are very very comfortably doing it,' Srivastava said. He added that IOB has recovered around Rs 4,500–Rs 5,000 crore annually in the last two years. IOB expects credit growth of 12–13 per cent this financial year. It is also in the process of obtaining approvals to open a branch at GIFT City in Gujarat. 'We are in the process of getting approvals and depending on the approvals, we will be opening a branch. It is in our priority and we want to have one branch as early as possible,' he said. The bank's gold loan portfolio remains a strong segment, especially in Tamil Nadu. Srivastava said the portfolio has consistently grown 37–38 per cent every year and is expected to maintain that rate this year as well. To support growth, IOB plans to raise Rs 4,000 crore in FY26, likely in Q3, through one or two tranches. Following the issue, the Government of India's stake is expected to come down from 94 per cent to around 90 per cent, he added. Vaishali museum with relic casket of Lord Buddha to be inaugurated by month-end
Patna: Buddha Samyak Darshan Museum-cum-Memorial Stupa at Vaishaligarh in Vaishali district, showcasing a relic casket of Lord Buddha — considered "most authentic" — will be inaugurated in the last week of July, a state govt official said here on Sunday. "Buddhist monks from 15 countries — China, Japan, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Nepal, Tibet, Myanmar, Malaysia, Bhutan, Vietnam, Cambodia, Mongolia, Laos, Bangladesh and Indonesia — will gather in Vaishali on the occasion," he said. Constructed at a cost of Rs 550.48 crore on 72 acres, this stupa complex is being developed near the sacred Pushkarini (pond) and mud 'stupa'. The main attraction of this monument will be a relic casket of Lord Buddha, discovered during excavations from 1958-62, which will be placed on the first floor of the museum. A statue of Lord Buddha crafted by artists from Odisha will be a distinctive feature. "The Memorial Stupa is entirely made of stone, with 42,373 sandstone pieces from Bansi Paharpur in Rajasthan interlinked using tongue and groove technique. It is built with modern earthquake-resistant technologies to ensure its safety for thousands of years. Surrounding the stupa are lily ponds, attractive sculptures and beautiful landscaping," the official said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like American Investor Warren Buffett Recommends: 5 Books For Turning Your Life Around Blinkist: Warren Buffett's Reading List Undo The complex also includes a meditation and visitor centre, library, museum block, amphitheatre, cafeteria, solar power plant (500 kilowatts), parking and other facilities. "This stupa will serve as a centre of reverence for Buddhist followers and place Vaishali prominently on the global tourism map. Along with promoting local employment, this monument will add a new chapter to the cultural and tourism development of Bihar," another official from building construction department said. Earlier on April 4, CM Nitish Kumar inspected the construction of the Buddha Samyak Darshan-cum-Memorial Stupa, and instructed the officials to ensure swift completion of the project. "Among all the relics of Lord Buddha found, the one discovered in Vaishali is the most authentic. Visitors will gain more insights into Lord Buddha's life. Pilgrims visiting Bodh Gaya and Rajgir will also visit Vaishaligarh. The museum will depict events from Buddha's life and aspects of Buddhism," Nitish had said on April 4 after inspecting the site.
