US Senate Approves Major Cuts to Foreign Aid
The US Senate has approved President Donald Trump's plan to slash billions in federal spending, including significant reductions to foreign aid and public broadcasting.
The vote, held early Thursday, passed with a narrow majority of 51 to 48, marking a key political win for Trump as he consolidates influence over Congress with minimal opposition.
The approved $9 billion spending cut targets several key areas. A large portion will impact foreign aid programs supporting countries facing war, disease, and natural disasters.
In addition, the plan
eliminates
$1.1 billion in funding previously allocated to public broadcasting over the next two years.
President Trump and several Republican allies argue that public broadcasting is a non-essential expense. Many have also criticized its news coverage, claiming it leans against conservative viewpoints.
Although $9 billion represents a small fraction of the $6.8 trillion federal budget, the cuts form part of a broader effort to curb government spending. Much of the proposed reductions were initiated by the Office of Government Efficiency, previously overseen by billionaire Elon Musk.

Thursday, July 24, Declared Paid Holiday for Private Sector Employees
H-Tayea On Saturday, the Ministry of Labor has officially declared Thursday, July 24, 2025, a fully paid public holiday for all employees in the private sector, in observance of the anniversary of the July 23 Revolution. The decision was issued in Circular No. 15 of 2025, following Labor Law No. 12 of 2003. Although the national holiday traditionally falls on Wednesday, July 23, this year's observance has been shifted to Thursday in line with a Cabinet directive aimed at unifying public holidays across various sectors. This shift is part of a broader government policy to align holidays in a way that supports social and national objectives and ensures consistency across public and private institutions. The Ministry clarified that this holiday applies to all workers governed by the Labor Law and ensures full paid leave. Employers who require employees to work on that day due to business needs are legally obliged to provide double pay in addition to the regular wage, as stipulated by Article 52 of the law. The directive was issued following Cabinet Decree No. 2474 of 2025, which designated Thursday, July 24, as the official replacement for the July 23 public holiday. Gaza Sees Nearly One Hundred Killed, Hundreds Injured in 48 Hours
H-Tayea The Ministry of Health in Gaza has confirmed that 98 Palestinians have been killed and 511 others injured by Israeli gunfire within the last 48 hours, marking one of the deadliest short periods in the ongoing war. Among the dead are individuals who were only recently recovered from beneath the rubble, highlighting the continued difficulty of rescue efforts. Since the beginning of the Israeli assault on October 7, 2023, Gaza's total death toll has now surged to 58,765, with 140,485 people injured. The Ministry warned that these numbers may still rise, as many victims remain under collapsed buildings or lying in open streets, unreachable by medical or civil defense teams due to the intensity of the bombardment and lack of access. From March 18, 2025, until today, the ministry reported 7,938 new deaths and 28,444 injuries, pointing to a particularly violent and destructive phase of the conflict. The ministry also reported disturbing figures about Palestinians who were killed while simply trying to secure basic necessities. In the last two days alone, 14 people were killed and more than 94 injured while attempting to collect humanitarian aid.
