Motorcyclist shot near Edora Park on Monday
Two deputies attempted to stop an off-road motorcycle for traffic violations in Fort Collins, according to a news release sent Monday afternoon. The adult male rider didn't stop and drove onto the bike path in Edora Park. The deputies followed on motorcycle.
The suspect then got off the motorcycle and exchanged gunfire with the deputies, according to the release. The news release does not say who fired first.
"The suspect fell to the ground and did not comply with deputy commands," the LCSO news release said. "Due to the suspect's proximity to his firearm, deputies formed a contact team and deployed a K9 to pull the suspect away from the gun."
The news release said the suspect was provided first aid by responding law enforcement officers until being transported to a hospital with serious injuries.
One deputy was shot, according to the news release. That deputy was also transported to a hospital and is recovering.
Crime scene tape was still strewn up at Edora Park near a playground and grassy area off of Welch Street as late as 5:30 p.m. Monday. Fort Collins Police and LSCO were also still in the scene, including at a few entry points to the park.
The incident occurred at the park and near Riffenburgh Elementary School. No additional injuries have been reported at this time, according to the news release.
The suspect's identity is unknown at this time.
The multiagency Critical Incident Response Team, or CIRT, has been activated to investigate the shooting, according to the X post.
CIRT investigates any officer-involved shooting in the 8th Judicial District that results in injury or death. After each investigation, the findings are reported to the District Attorney.
Since the LCSO was involved in the incident, the Loveland Police Department is the lead investigating agency for the CIRT investigation.

Escaped fugitive arrested in Lee County after two-hour crisis negotiation
A wanted fugitive who escaped jail more than a week ago has been found in North Fort Myers. Lee County Sheriff's Office deputies found Jamie Jenks, 33, of North Fort Myers, Monday morning, August 11. He had escaped a St. Petersburg correctional facility on August 3. Jenks barricaded himself in an apartment on the 1330 block of Lavin Lane, where crisis negotiators and the LCSO Special Operations Unit worked for two hours to ensure the situation ended safely, deputies said. Jenks surrendered peacefully, they said. Deputies said Jenks has an extensive criminal history, with multiple arrests ranging in charges from fraud to felony larceny. At the time of his escape, he was serving a two-year sentence for theft. This is an ongoing investigation. Police K-9 stabbed during standoff after man robbed family member at knifepoint: KCKPD
SHAWNEE, Kan. — Kansas City, Kansas, police say a Shawnee police K-9 that was assisting during an overnight barricade/standoff call was stabbed and taken to a vet. KCKPD said officers responded to the call just east of 10th and Riverview at 3:45 a.m. Police said someone called 911 after a family member armed with a knife came back to the home following an assault. Shawnee police sent K-9 Officer Dagger to help – but when officers tried to arrest the suspect, he stabbed the K-9. 'The K-9 handler actually saw the suspect; everything he observed, [it] appeared that he was not armed,' KCKPD Officer Thomas Tomasic told FOX4. 'So, they sent the dog in. When the dog approached, the dog was stabbed. [Officers] pulled the dog out, and that's when we set up an official barricade on the suspect.' KCKPD said the suspect surrendered at 7:30 a.m. and was arrested after robbing a family member. 'A family member had robbed another family member at knifepoint,' Tomasic said. 'The dog was wearing its protective gear, but it was stabbed in the neck area. So the vest would not have protected the dog from that.' Police said K-9 Officer Dagger was taken to a veterinary clinic and is expected to fully recover.
