Independent labels share spotlight at Design Assembly
Taking place at Chijmes Chapel on June 12 between 10am and 10pm, the one-day shopping event Design Assembly boasts a curated mix of over 40 independent labels across fashion, jewellery, art, accessories, kidswear, homeware and lifestyle that have quietly made a mark in Singapore.
They include Apollonia, Maisha Concept, Sette, Boheme, Mis Balinesas, Ashepa, Little Pea, Temple Candles, From The Dot, Dirty Manners and Hankie Pankie Home.
Design Assembly is an inaugural retail showcase co-founded by four creative entrepreneurs – Samantha Colbert of craft studio Strait Lights; Emily Cheetham, founder and designer of boutique accessories brand Elyse & i; Australian artist Fleur Kakasi; and Gemma Alexander, the illustrator behind stationery brand The Ink Tree – whose shared vision is to create a fresh, intimate space for independent design to thrive. – Dorcas Lim

British luxury perfume house Clive Christian has unveiled a bold new fragrance, the L Red Tea Vetiver.
Part of the brand's Private Collection – which champions individuality through complex, high-concentration compositions – the scent reimagines rooibos, the warm, honeyed tea from South Africa, blending it with smoky vetiver, citrus top notes and a musky sandalwood base for a transportive olfactory journey.
Priced at $560 for 50ml and sold in department store Takashimaya's cosmetics department at Level 1, the perfume comes housed in Clive Christian's signature crown-topped bottle – a nod to its regal heritage dating back to Queen Victoria's era.

The Jung Beauty Brightening Microcurrent Mask is said to use low-level electrical currents to deliver a salon-quality glow in just 15 minutes.
Retailing at $80 for a box of five sheets, and $20 for a reusable magnetic device that clips onto the mask to kick-start the glow-up, the mask is infused with a potent essence featuring 6 per cent rice bran extract and 4 per cent niacinamide, among other antioxidants, helping to hydrate, brighten and tackle pigmentation – all while microcurrents boost absorption and skin renewal.
To plump and hydrate, the mask features a Hyapol Matrix – a moisture-locking complex of five types of hyaluronic acid that work across multiple skin layers. Rounding out the formula is a calming blend of nine botanical extracts like Jeju green tea, lotus flower and evening primrose.

An online personality that has accompanied millions across the globe through hours of study, work and chill sessions has finally finished her homework. Jade, better known as Lofi Girl, the face of the popular French YouTube channel of the same name, announced on X on July 30 that she had finally graduated. In a video animation, Jade is holding up a laptop with the words 'The End' on the screen. Initially in her signature red and green outfit with headphones, she is seen donning a navy-coloured graduation gown and mortarboard once the laptop is shut . 'Finally finished with all my homework. I don't know what I learned, but I know I'm done learning.' she laughs, recreating the dialogue from a a teen sitcom that has become a trend on TikTok. Since its inception in 2015, the YouTube channel has amassed more than 15 million subscribers, racking up more than a billion views through its videos – the most popular of which is the constantly-running 'lofi hip hop radio beats to relax/study to' stream, which features Jade in an animation loop over music. The Lofi Girl channel has cemented its place in pop culture, with myriad of memes inspired by its content. A multitude of similar streams - which include a central animation looping as lo-fi music plays - have spawned on YouTube and other video streaming platforms. Lofi Girl has even found her way into politics. In the 2019 UK general election, the Conservatives YouTube channel released a video featuring then-prime minister Boris Johnson titled 'lo fi boriswave beats to relax/get brexit done to'. Taiwanese President Lai Ching-te in 2023 called for members of the public to submit their lo-fi music for his '2024 Healing Music Submission Project' , describing the subgenre as 'an essential healing companion for modern people'. His channel, called Lofi on Lai, features 'healing, vocal-free versions of the Democratic Progressive Party's presidential campaign songs from 1996 to 2024'.

M y fav ourite is his most recent show, Ocean (2025). It changed the way I look at seafood. In this day and age, the world has become a scary place. I do not spend my time watching hollow dramas, as they feel like mere distractions from what we need to be thinking about – saving our planet and humanit y . '
