3 dead, 7 injured as passenger bus targeted in Balochistan

World
Kalat, July 16 (UNI) At least three people were killed and seven others sustained injuries after unidentified assailants opened gunfire on a passenger coach travelling from Karachi to Quetta near a checkpost in Balochistan's Kalat, police said on Wednesday.
This is the second such attack in less than a week in the restive province, which has witnessed a deadly year with scores of fatalities due to terrorist attacks, Geo news reported.
The attack occurred when the bus approached Nemargh Cross near Kalat district. The assailants, who were waiting on top of nearby mountains, first opened fire and then hurled hand grenades at the vehicle, as per reports.
The vehicles that run on this route carry approximately 40 to 50 passengers. However, the exact number of passengers on board the targeted bus remains unknown.
Balochistan government spokesperson, Shahid Rind noted that security agencies, district authorities, and rescue teams reached the scene immediately. The wounded were transferred to the Qalat DHQ Hospital, where an emergency has been declared.
Security forces cordoned off the area and launched a search operation to pursue the assailants, Rind said, adding that the attackers are still at large. "Initial reports suggest that the attackers were waiting to strike. They closed the street from both sides," he added.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has strongly condemned the terrorist incident, which he said was carried out by the Fitna al Hindustan — a term used for terrorist organisations in Balochistan.
The PM also directed authorities to provide immediate medical assistance to the injured.

32 Palestinians shot dead trying to reach US group's food distribution sites, Gaza authorities say

Israeli troops opened fire Saturday toward crowds of Palestinians seeking food from distribution hubs run by a US- and Israeli-backed group in southern Gaza, killing at least 32 people, according to witnesses and hospital officials. The shootings occurred near hubs operated by the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation, which launched operations in May. The US and Israel seek to replace the traditional UN-led aid distribution system in Gaza, asserting that Hamas militants siphon off supplies. The UN denies the allegation. While the GHF says it has distributed millions of meals to hungry Palestinians, local health officials and witnesses say that Israeli army fire has killed hundreds of people as they try to reach the hubs. GHF's four sites are in military-controlled zones. Israel's army, which is not at the sites but secures them from a distance, says it only fires warning shots if crowds get too close to its forces. The military on Saturday said it fired warning shots near Gaza's southernmost city of Rafah after a group of suspects approached troops and ignored calls to keep their distance. It said the incident occurred overnight when the distribution site was closed. In a statement, the GHF said there were no incidents at or near its sites and added, 'we have repeatedly warned aid seekers not to travel to our sites overnight and early morning hours. 'Witnesses allege indiscriminate fire Most of Saturday's deaths occurred as Palestinians massed in the Teina area, around 3 kilometers (2 miles) from a GHF aid distribution center near the southern city of Khan Younis. Mahmoud Mokeimar said he was walking with masses of people, mostly young men, toward the hub. Troops fired warning shots, then opened fire.'The occupation opened fire at us indiscriminately,' he said. He said he saw at least three motionless bodies on the ground and many wounded people fleeing. Akram Aker, another witness, said troops fired machine guns mounted on tanks and drones. He said the shooting happened between 5 a.m. and 6 a.m. The GHF had called on people not to approach before 6 a.m. Saturday, citing potential military activities.'They encircled us and started firing directly at us,' Aker said. He said he saw many casualties on the ground. Sanaa al-Jaberi said there was shooting after the site opened as people seeking aid broke into a run. 'Is this food or death? Why? They don't talk with us, they only shoot us,' she said, and showed off her empty bag. Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis said it received 25 bodies. Seven other people, including one woman, were killed in the Shakoush area, hundreds of meters (yards) north of another GHF hub in Rafah, the hospital said. Gaza's Health Ministry confirmed the toll. Dr. Mohamed Saker, head of Nasser's nursing department, said it received 70 wounded people. He told The Associated Press that most people were shot in the head and chest. 'The situation is difficult and tragic,' he said, adding that the facility lacks medical supplies. Some of the wounded, including a child, were treated on the floor. One boy stood patiently, holding up a blood bag for someone on a stretcher. Meanwhile, Fares Awad, head of the Health Ministry's ambulance and emergency service in northern Gaza, said two people were killed in Gaza City when an airstrike hit a tent in a camp sheltering displaced families. In central Gaza, Al-Awda Hospital said 12 people were killed in an airstrike. The hospital and Hamas-run Interior Ministry said Omar Aqel, a local police official, was killed. Two children, including an infant, and five women — all relatives of Aqel — were among the dead. Al-Awda Hospital said it also received two people killed by an Israeli strike on a group of people in Bureij. Another strike on a house in the Gaza City neighborhood of Sheikh Radwan killed at least four, according to the Health Ministry's ambulance and emergency service. A strike that hit a cart in Tal al-Hawa in northern Gaza killed four, the service said. Israel's army had no comment on specific strikes but said it had struck some 90 targets throughout Gaza over the past day and killed militants and targeted 'terror infrastructure' in northern Gaza and Gaza City. Gaza's more than 2 million Palestinians are in a catastrophic humanitarian crisis. Distribution at the GHF sites is often chaotic. Boxes of food are stacked on the ground and crowds surge in to grab whatever they can, according to witnesses and videos released by GHF. In videos obtained recently by the AP, GHF contractors are seen using tear gas and stun grenades to keep crowds behind metal fences or force them to disperse. Gunshots can be triggered the 21-month war when it stormed into southern Israel on Oct. 7, 2023, killing some 1,200 people and taking 251 others hostage. Israel's military offensive has killed over 58,000 Palestinians, according to the Gaza Health Ministry, displaced nearly all of Gaza's and caused widespread destruction. The ministry does not say how many militants are among the dead, but it says over half were women and children. The ministry is part of the Hamas government, but the UN and other international organizations see it as the most reliable source of data on casualties. Israel and Hamas have been holding ceasefire talks in Qatar, but international mediators say there have been no breakthroughs. In the occupied West Bank, US Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee visited the Palestinian Christian village, Taybeh, where residents say extremist Israeli settlers set fire to the Church of St. George on July 9. Huckabee, an evangelical Christian who is normally strongly supportive of Israel, condemned the attack. 'To commit an act of sacrilege by desecrating a place that is supposed to be a place of worship — it's an act of terror and it's a crime,' he said. The West Bank has experienced a surge in settler violence since the war in Gaza began. Palestinians say Israeli security forces have done little to stop the violence, and few settlers have been punished.

Golden Temple receives 7th threat email, SGPC questions govt's inaction

Chandigarh, July 19 (UNI) The Golden Temple today received its seventh threat email, continuing a string of disturbing messages over the past week. Speaking to the media, former Akal Takht Jathedar and current Head Granthi Giani Raghbir Singh expressed concern over the silence of the Punjab government. He said despite multiple threats, no official communication has been made with the SGPC Calling the emails a sign of a "larger conspiracy", Giani Raghbir Singh stated that two suspects were arrested yesterday, yet the threats persist, creating fear among devotees. He emphasized that while the shrine's internal administration is capable of handling security, it is the government's responsibility to prevent malicious activities by external elements. He also condemned Congress MP Gurjeet Singh Aujla for writing to the Centre demanding CISF deployment at the shrine, calling it 'highly condemnable' in light of the party's past actions, including the 1984 military assault on Sikh religious institutions. Giani Raghbir urged political parties to stop exploiting the issue and instead unite to ensure justice. He called on the Punjab Chief Minister to urgently engage with the SGPC and take the matter seriously. Despite the threats, he appealed to devotees to continue visiting the Golden Temple without fear. UNI NB AAB

Israeli partner of Russian woman found in Karnataka cave makes shocking disclosures, says 'for 8 years...,' in Goa...

New Delhi: Many important revelations have been made about the Russian woman, Nina Kutina alias Mohi, found in a cave in Karnataka with her two daughters, Preya (6) and Ama (4). Her relationship started with an Israeli man Dror Goldstein which has now turned into a custody dispute and legal confrontation. According to a complaint lodged with the Goa Police, the matter is related to the care, education and future of two minor daughters. They were recently recovered from a cave in the hills of Ramatirtha near Gokarna in Karnataka. Who is Nina and who is Dror? Nina Kutina alias Mohi is 40 years old while Dror Goldstein, a resident of Israel, is 38 years old. The two met in 2017 at Arambol Beach in Goa. Goldstein said in his complaint that they both fell in love and started living together. Their romance lasted for about eight years. When did the dispute start? Goldstein claimed that Nina used to harass him emotionally and kept demanding money. When both were planning to go to Israel, Nina was deported to Russia due to documentation problems. Nina told through email in June 2018 that she was pregnant. In 2019, the first daughter was born in Ukraine. In 2020, the second daughter was born in Goa. Dror alleges that Nina did not send the daughters to school and did not believe in any formal education. He claimed that whenever he came to India to meet the daughters, Nina kept a distance from him and suddenly went missing. Where was Nina hiding with two minor daughters? To recall, Nina and her two daughters were found hiding in a cave in the Ramatirtha hills of Gokarna. There was no electricity, no mobile network, and both the girls were not allowed to meet other children. Dror has now demanded custody of the children and urged that the girls not be sent back to Russia. What does police say? Dror said in his complaint, 'Nina does not allow me to meet the daughters and tries to keep them away from me. I am worried about the physical and mental condition of the children. The girls are being kept away from social contact and their education is being neglected.' A police officer said, 'The complaint was lodged, but Goldstein was called to confirm the facts. He did not appear.' The legal process of joint custody will depend on diplomatic and judicial agreements between India, Russia and Israel. If Nina is proved guilty of illegally hiding the children, legal action is possible against her.
