Viral 'bunnies on a trampoline' video is revealed to be AI - These are the subtle clues that give away the hoax

Daily Mail2 days ago
Young, tech-savvy social media users might like to think they could never be deceived by a fake video.
But a viral clip showing cute rabbits bouncing on a trampoline has now proven that nobody is above falling for online trickery.
The video, posted by TikTok user rachelthecatlovers, has amassed 229.3 million views and over 88,000 comments.
However, despite how adorable it might be, the clip is nothing more than an AI-generated hoax.
In the video's description, rachelthecatlovers wrote: 'Just checked the home security cam and… I think we've got guest performers out back!'
If you fell for this fake video, then the good news is that you weren't alone, as social media users have flocked to share their surprise at being caught out.
On TikTok, one user complained: 'This is the first AI that has ever got me.'
But if you're still having trouble separating fact from fiction, these are the subtle clues that give away the deception.
On TikTok, commenters have complained that this was the first time they had ever fallen for an AI fake
First, as the video starts, pay close attention to two bunnies on the left-hand side of the trampoline.
What initially looks like two grey rabbits sitting side-by-side, unnaturally warps into a single bunny, which bounds away.
A similar transformation occurs with two other rabbits around the five-second mark.
To spot the subtle flaw, focus on the leftmost rabbit as it starts to run across the trampoline.
The rabbit jumps up and obscures another rabbit sitting on the back edge, which has vanished by the time the first rabbit lands.
Finally, keep your eye on the single dark grey rabbit in the middle-right of the screen.
Around seven seconds into the video, the rabbit unexpectedly gives up its grey colouration and becomes brownish-white like the others.
Although these hints might be difficult to spot at first, once you've seen them, it is clear that this video is a fake.
For more evidence that this viral clip is a fraud, you can also look at the other videos posted by the account rachelthecatlovers.
In one AI-generated video, a hand is shown injecting raisins with water to transform them back into grapes.
Another video shows what appears to be a rabbit entering through a kitchen dog door.
However, on closer inspection, the video is clearly AI-generated, as you can see the dog flap fading out of existence.
Addressing the claim that the videos are fake, the account posted a bizarre video in which a woman, lit by flashing orange lights, shouts into the camera over loud music.
In the clip, the woman repeatedly says: 'Guys, the rabbits are real. D A A R E. Real.'
Despite the subtle hints and the account's unusual behaviour, many people still found themselves falling for the clip.
Despite these hints, many social media users still couldn't bring themselves to believe that the video was fake
Some younger commenters even joked that they had thought only their parents would fall for fake AI content
'OMG this is the best thing I've ever seen,' added another.
Even Gen Z found themselves unable to spot the fake, as one commenter wrote: 'A few years ago I was laughing at my mother for believing ai.
Another joked: 'I'm getting scammed when im older.'
This is not the first time that an AI-generated image has gone viral before the internet realised that there was deception involved.
In 2023, Eliot Higgins, founder of open-source investigative journalism website Bellingcat, created a series of AI-generated pictures showing Donald Trump being arrested outside Trump Tower.
Although Mr Higgins said that he had made the pictures with AI in his initial post, the images were shared and spread without that context.
As the images went viral, many people were convinced that Trump had, in fact, been arrested.
Likewise, AI-generated images of the late Pope Francis wearing a puffer jacket were detailed enough to convince thousands of people that the photos were real.
AI systems rely on artificial neural networks (ANNs), which try to simulate the way the brain works in order to learn.
ANNs can be trained to recognise patterns in information - including speech, text data, or visual images - and are the basis for a large number of the developments in AI over recent years.
Conventional AI uses input to 'teach' an algorithm about a particular subject by feeding it massive amounts of information.
Practical applications include Google's language translation services, Facebook's facial recognition software and Snapchat's image altering live filters.
The process of inputting this data can be extremely time consuming, and is limited to one type of knowledge.
A new breed of ANNs called Adversarial Neural Networks pits the wits of two AI bots against each other, which allows them to learn from each other.

Men's magazine Maxim under fire after list of 'unsexiest' women resurfaces with shocking first place

The early 2000s were a different time - and a Maxim article from 2007 listing the 'unsexiest' women has ruffled some feathers after it resurfaced and went viral. The men's magazine, which is known for featuring scantily clad celebrities, released the list nearly two decades ago. Entitled 'Unsexiest Women Alive,' the list contained five female stars and a brief description for each one explaining the reasoning behind their placement on the list. The unfortunate list was recently shared in a recent Reddit post, leaving many users horrified over who was chosen. First on the list was Sarah Jessica Parker, with the magazine claiming she was the 'least sexy woman in a group of very unsexy women' who ironically starred in a show with the word "sex" in the title, as per a Today article published at the time. 'How the hell did this [horse] Barbaro-faced broad manage to be the least sexy woman in a group of very unsexy women and still star on a show with "sex" in the title?' read Sarah Jessica's description, per Second on the list was Amy Winehouse, who died four years later, in 2011. The site mentioned 'hemorrhaging translucent skin, a rat's nest mane, and lashes that look more like surgically attached bats,' as to what landed her on the least sexy list. Third was Grey's Anatomy actress Sandra Oh, with the outlet citing her 'cold bedside manner and boyish figure.' Fourth on the list was legendary pop star Madonna, with her 'self-righteous bellyaching and rapid postnuptial deterioration' listed as reasons why. 'Combine a Paris Hilton-like pet accessorizing fetish only for dirt-poor foreign babies with a mug that looks Euro-sealed to her skull, and you've got Willem Dafoe with hot flashes,' Maxim Magazine said, as per Stuff. Number five was Britney Spears, with Maxim listing her messy private life, weight gain, and her 'losing the ability to perform' as what landed her there. The magazine slammed her for 'filling chicken-grease-stained sweatpants on the cover of every trashy tabloid and gossip blog on the Internet' and having 'gained two kids, two useless ex-husbands, and about 23 pounds of Funyun pudge,' according to Pajiba. The article was slammed at the time for it's cruel list, with many outlets reporting on it. The list appeared to be made as a joke in conjunction their Hot 100 list, which is dedicated to the 'sexiest' women of that year. In 2007, the top spots on their Hot 100 list went to Lindsay Lohan, Jessica Alba, Scarlett Johansson, and Christina Aguilera. The 'unsexiest' list has now come under fire again after it resurfaced on Reddit thread, with stunned users rushing to the comment section to share their thoughts. 'Sarah Jessica Parker has always had an amazing bod, a gorgeous smile, amazing hair, and those hypnotizing eyes,' declared one user. 'She was the freaking Lead in that show, and the whole franchise has her at the core. She is a bombshell hottie.' 'It seems that with SJP, Madonna, and Britney, they're punishing women who used their sex appeal to build their own profiles in ways that centered their own experience,' another observed. 'Then had the audacity to age, not cater to the male gaze, or gain like five pounds. Amy Winehouse also was not super traditionally feminine. 'Other than that, this list is just random gorgeous women. It's early days of men lashing out about not being centered.' 'This is a "let's pick five famously beautiful women to take down a peg" list. It's a pathetic ego trip,' slammed another. Number five was Britney Spears (seen in 2007), with the outlet slamming her messy private life, weight gain and her 'losing the ability to perform' in regards to what landed her there '[Sandra Oh] on the list because of "her cold bedside manner" - I don't know how to break it to this writer but [her Grey's Anatomy character] Cristina Yang is not a real person,' mocked someone else. 'I hate to be all 'kids today' but they truly don't understand the level of misogyny that women and girls were exposed to in the 2000s,' another shared. Sarah Jessica had spoken about how much the article upset her at the time, calling it 'brutal.' 'Am I really the unsexiest woman in the world?' she said in an interview with Grazia magazine. 'Wow! It's kind of shocking.' 'It's so brutal in a way, so filled with rage and anger,' she added. Maxim has removed the article from its website, and went on to name the Sex And The City star as its 'unexpected crush' in 2008.

Then she confirmed in a caption on the video sharing platform that the family has decided to quit TV. 'This just in: we're NEVER doing reality TV again,' Taya wrote. 'To everyone who found us through the chaos and chose to stay, thank you. Your support has made all the difference through this journey. And don't worry, we'll keep sharing our story … but this time, we're taking the mic." Polyfamily followed Taya and three other adults who formed the family they labeled a "closed quad." Their polycule is formed of Taya's husband, Sean Hartless, his girlfriend Alysia Rodgers and her husband Tyler Rodgers, who is also Taya's boyfriend. Each couple married before joining their polycule and have welcomed three children since becoming their closed quad, and they have chosen not to learn the children's paternity. Alysia and Tyler are parents to two children, whom they welcomed before entering a relationship with Taya and Sean. Taya previously opened up on how her and Sean first met the other couple and decided to form a polycule. At first, the couples would meet up half way between their home towns, making 12 hour round trips to switch partners. 90 Day Fiance's low salaries, 'long' filming schedule & demanding reshoots revealed amid Happily Ever After fan backlash Their first night together, they attended an event before splitting into separate hotel rooms. When it was time to go to sleep, they switched back to their spouses. Eventually, both pairs realised they "wanted more and more" and decided to introduce their children. What is a polycule? According to the Meriam-Webster dictionary, a "polycule is a group of three or more people in intimate polyamorous (consensual non-monogamous) relationships with one another." However, not all members of a polycule are necessarily romantically or sexually involved. Taya explained that each night the two men switch bedrooms, however she and Alicia remain metamours, meaning they aren't romantically or sexually involved. Describing their unique set-up, Taya said they just "indulged in what our hearts told us and let our brains follow."
