Jets' Justin Fields participates in QB drills, despite toe injury
The drills included rollouts and some throwing. Team drills remain off limits for now for Fields, who is considered day-to-day.
Fields sustained the injury Thursday in camp in Florham Park, N.J., and was carted off the field. Tests showed the injury to be relatively minor compared to initial fears of a more serious issue.
The Jets also have veteran backup Tyrod Taylor on the roster. Adrian Martinez, the 2024 United Football League MVP, and rookie Brady Cook also are in the quarterback room.
A 2021 first-round pick of the Chicago Bears, Fields signed a two-year, $40 million contract in March, and the Jets are counting on him to replace Aaron Rodgers.
Fields is 14-30 as a starter and has passed for 7,780 yards with 45 touchdowns and 31 interceptions in 50 games with the Bears (2021-23) and Pittsburgh Steelers 2024). He has rushed for 2,509 yards and 19 touchdowns.
The Jets open the 2025 season on Sept. 7 against the Steelers and their new quarterback, ex-Jet Rodgers, at home in East Rutherford, N.J.

Son joins LAFC in MLS record deal
LOS ANGELES, Aug 6 (Reuters) - South Korean forward Son Heung-min has joined Los Angeles FC in a record-breaking Major League Soccer transfer, ending a decade-long stint at Tottenham Hotspur, both clubs announced on Wednesday. Financial details of the transfer were not disclosed by either club but the Athletic reported LAFC paid a fee in the region of $26.5 million for the 33-year-old. Son, who joined Tottenham from Bayer Leverkusen in 2015, led the north London club to their first trophy in 17 years with a 1-0 win over Manchester United in the Europa League final in May. The former Spurs captain made 454 appearances for the team and scored 173 goals, winning the Premier League Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season. Son, capped 134 times by South Korea, joins LAFC after an emotional farewell to Spurs during a friendly against Newcastle United at Seoul World Cup Stadium.

Twins offense erupts to book 9-4 win over division-leading Tigers
August 6 - Luke Keaschall doubled twice and knocked in three runs, Thomas Hatch tossed 4 1/3 innings of scoreless relief, and the visiting Minnesota Twins topped the Detroit Tigers 9-4 on Wednesday afternoon. It was Keaschall's second consecutive three-RBI game since coming off the injured list. Brooks Lee and Alan Roden each had two hits, including solo home runs, and scored twice. Austin Martin notched his first-career homer, while Ryan Jeffers added two hits, a run scored and an RBI. Hatch (1-0) allowed only two hits and a walk while striking out three. Minnesota starter Pierson Ohl surrendered four runs and four hits in 2 2/3 innings. The Twins took two of three games in the series against the American League Central leaders. Kerry Carpenter belted a two-run home run for the Tigers, his 20th homer of the season. Spencer Torkelson and Zach McKinstry also supplied solo homers.
