WI vs AUS: Australia names Playing XI for first T20I against West Indies; Owen set to make debut, Fraser-McGurk returns
While Mitchell Owen is set to make his international debut, Matthew Short is ruled out of the series due to a minor side strain and has been sent back to Australia.
Jake Fraser-McGurk will take Short's place in the team as opener. Fraser-McGurk, who has struggled for form of late in international cricket, had been added to the squad as a replacement for injured pacer Spencer Johnson.
With Australia resting a host of senior players, including Travis Head and the pace trio of Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood, the series will provide an opportunity to finetune the squad ahead of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup next year.
'First and foremost, it's always 'we're representing Australia, we're here to win the series' and culturally, that's how we want to go about it. There will be guys that get opportunities. We've obviously got a few guys missing for this series (for) a well-earned rest. But we want guys to be flexible, fluid, and come together as a team and be really connected. We don't want anyone to come in here and feel like they have to prove themselves. We've really got a strong squad,' Australia T20I captain Mitchell Marsh said while talking to cricket.com.au.

You have the Asia Cup ahead, and playing on surfaces like this won't help you succeed on the big stage. Bangladesh may find success on these kinds of pitches, but this is by no means an ideal wicket," he remarked. Hesson almost veered into explaining how 'such wickets' were not helpful for Bangladesh cricket's development either, before reeling himself back. 'In the BPL, good wickets are usually prepared here. But in international matches, Bangladesh keeps producing these slow and low surfaces to gain a home advantage. That's not right," he stated, before adding, 'I haven't come here to fix Bangladesh cricket—that's not my job. But when we talk about the global standard of the game, such wickets are not the way forward." It's not just the visiting teams, though. In 2021, after Bangladesh hosted New Zealand and Australia on such tracks and found success, some batters had complained about the pitch. Home skipper Litton Das had also brought up the subject on the eve of this T20I, saying: 'I also agree. (After playing the 2021 New Zealand-Australia series) the careers of many cricketers have gone down as batters. If I were a bowler, maybe my career would have been rich." ICC asks USA Cricket to hold elections within three months
The International Cricket Council (ICC) at its annual conference on Saturday kept USA Cricket (USAC) on notice and asked the board to undertake comprehensive governance reforms. 'The ICC reiterated its previous position and confirmed that the organisation remains on notice. USA Cricket is required to undertake comprehensive governance reforms, including but not limited to completing free and fair elections within a three-month period,' the apex body said in a statement. The ICC had issued a notice to USA Cricket in July last year for non compliance with its governance rules, after the country had co-hosted the T20 World Cup with West Indies. The move aims at USAC getting a 'national governing body' status from the US Olympic and Paralympic Committee, which is a requisite for the sport to be included at the Los Angeles Olympics in 2028. News reports had stated that the ICC is working towards suspending the US board, but with cricket's return to the Olympics at stake, the ICC is extending a chance to USAC to set its house in order.
