Mumbai: An investment vehicle backed by Abu Dhabi sovereign investor ADQ and partly owned by Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed al-Nahyan is in advanced discussions to buy a minority stake in Blackstone-backed Aadhar Housing Finance , said people in the know. Sheikh Tahnoon is the United Arab Emirates national security adviser as well as ADQ chair. The $200-225 million investment (Rs 1,750-2,000 crore) will be made through the secondary sale of shares for a 10-12% stake in the affordable housing finance company, which held an IPO in 2024. A formal announcement is expected in the coming weeks, said the people mentioned cited above. This will follow a larger, near $2 billion (Rs 17,335 crore) capital commitment, by Blackstone along with two of its sponsors or limited partners (LPs). This will be through the transfer of most of Blackstone's existing three-fourths shareholding into a new 'continuation' vehicle, similar to what it did in Mphasis in 2021.Blackstone declined to comment about the identity of the new investor or any other details. ADQ //didn't respond to queries.Over the weekend, the company made a public disclosure that Blackstone funds BCP Asia II Holdco VII Pte, Blackstone Capital Partners (CYM) IX and Blackstone Capital Partners (CYM) IX AIV-FLP have made an open offer to buy 113.5 million Aadhar shares, translating to astake, from public shareholders as per regulations at Rs 469.97 apiece. The open offer was triggered as Blackstone is flipping a majority share (about 64%) of its shareholding from one set of funds to two new funds of the firm at Rs 425 apiece, to ensure continuity. The value of this secondary transaction is Rs 12,000 crore ($1.4 billion). If the open offer is fully subscribed, Blackstone will pay a further Rs 5,335 crore ($620 million) in cash.JM Financial is helping with the open offer. Blackstone may have to sell some stock to comply with the ceiling of 75% non-public shareholding, if the offer is fully subscribed. The stake sale to the new Abu Dhabi vehicle is also expected to be at a similar value. On Friday, Aadhar closed at Rs 496.90 for a market value of Rs 21,469.03 crore. In the past month, it has appreciated 12.11% in anticipation of a transaction. Year to date it is up 18.63% on the back of a robust performance. The company reported a 19% increase in net profit to Rs 237 crore in the first quarter ended June.Continuity funds, in which a private equity group sells assets from one of the funds they manage to a newer one also managed by the firm, are widely prevalent in the west. It's catching on in India with Chrys Capital and Multiples launching similar structures for some of their investments such as National Stock Exchange (NSE), Vastu Housing Finance, Quantiphi and APAC Financial Services.According to investment bank Jefferies, buyout groups have used this strategy, regarded as controversial by some analysts, to exit $ 41 billion of investments in the first six months of 2025. Such transactions hit a record 19% of all sales by the industry for the period, up 60% from a year ago.In developed markets, funds have been struggling to find external buyers or list holdings and return capital to investors. In growth markets like India, they argue that companies like Aadhar have a significant growth runway left for a fund to stay invested and ride the upside. Typically, a fund with a 10-year lifespan will have a three-to-five-year investment horizon. After the IPO, even though several strategic financial groups or funds approached Blackstone to either partially or fully exit Aadhar, a transaction could not be concluded due to valuation mismatches, said people with knowledge of the matter.'Blackstone has been a committed partner to Aadhar since 2019, playing a key role over the past six years in strengthening its position as India's largest affordable housing finance company. That is what made it do an Mphasis with Aadhar too,' said an executive in the know. 'The fundamentals of the affordable housing segment remain strong giving it the confidence to stay invested and even rope in new, high-profile investors.'The industry is likely to see a five-year CAGR of 17-18%.The management and the board will stay in place. Under Blackstone's six-year ownership, Aadhar's AUM has ballooned to $3 billion, 1.2x that of its nearest competitor.Other than ADQ, Abu Dhabi has several sovereign investment funds, including ADIA, Mubadala and AI-focused MGX. The oil-rich emirate has been keen on betting large sums to back new vehicles as it positions itself as a hub of global capital. For example, in 2024, ADQ and Chimera Investment--part of the sprawling business empire of Sheikh Tahnoon–launched Lunate, which has emerged as one of the hottest new asset managers of the region, which has invested in close to 30 deals in one year. Lunate also owns Alterra, a $30 billion climate fund, with international groups BlackRock, TPG and Brookfield. ADQ has committed $6.5 billion to Alterra. Lunate includes Alterra in its assets under management.

OpenAI eyes $500 bn valuation in potential employee share sale
ChatGPT maker OpenAI is in early-stage discussions about a stock sale that would allow employees to cash out and could value the company at about $500 billion, a source familiar with the matter said. That would represent an eye-popping bump-up from its current valuation of $300 billion, with the sale underscoring both OpenAI's rapid gains in users and revenue as well as the intense competition among artificial intelligence firms to secure talented workers. The transaction, which would come before a potential IPO, would allow current and former employees to sell several billion dollars worth of shares, said the source, who requested anonymity because the talks are private. Bolstered by its flagship product ChatGPT, OpenAI doubled its revenue in the first seven months of the year, reaching an annualised run rate of $12 billion, and is on track to reach $20 billion by year-end, the source added. Microsoft-backed OpenAI has about 700 million weekly active users for its ChatGPT products, a surge from about 400 million in February. The share sale talks come on the heels of OpenAI's primary funding round announced earlier this year, which aims to raise $40 billion, led by Japan's SoftBank Group. SoftBank has until the end of the year to fund its $22.5 billion portion of the round, but the remainder has been subscribed at a valuation of $300 billion, the source said. Microsoft-backed OpenAI has about 700 million weekly active users for its ChatGPT products, a surge from about 400 million in February.

Narayana Health to add 2,000 beds, expand insurance schemes in FY26
Bengaluru-headquartered hospital chain Narayana Health aims to grow its domestic revenue by 10 per cent in FY26, in line with industry benchmarks, a senior company official said. Managing director and chief executive officer Emmanuel Rupert told Business Standard: 'Last fiscal we did about Rs 4,349 crore in India revenue and we want to grow at a rate at which the healthcare industry is growing — over 10 per cent. We look to be on the same momentum and revenue.' Sandhya J, chief financial officer at Devi Shetty's Narayana Health, said the company plans to scale up its Aditi and Arya health insurance schemes in Karnataka and West Bengal. 'The entire healthcare ecosystem is failing in trust. We are on the path to solve the trust deficit and episodic interference of fund transfer. On the back of this, we aim to double down on our insurance scheme and build a strong customer base in Bengaluru, Shivamogga, Mysore, and Kolkata.' Commenting on efforts to improve profit after tax (PAT), which declined 2.3 per cent to Rs 196 crore in Q1 due to increased investments in integrated care and other financial costs, Sandhya said PAT optimisation will improve as the India business grows. Some clinics have started breaking even, reducing losses from the health insurance schemes. 'Over a period of time, we will be able to keep the losses in check and expand margins in the domestic business. PAT should improve. Finance cost will continue to increase due to the Rs 3,000 crore project to add 2,000 beds across India over the next three years. The integrated care dilution will continue over the next year but we hope to maintain a decent level of cash burn.' She added that a large part of the funding will come through bank borrowings and non-convertible debentures (NCDs) as needed. So far, Rs 800 crore has been raised for projects already signed. The CFO noted that about Rs 1,500–2,000 crore in loans might be raised in this fiscal, depending on upcoming project developments. 'We are exploring opportunities to expand, some might be inorganic as well. Borrowings will be linked to the construction progress of our current projects.' During the quarter, revenue from international patients declined, primarily due to reduced footfall from Bangladesh. Narayana expects this trend to continue, given ongoing geopolitical tensions. 'The goal is to keep focusing on domestic growth and see how well we can push the numbers. Eventually, in the next two to three years, we believe that revenue contribution from Bangladesh will go down to zero. Not to miss, the country is building its own healthcare infrastructure.' Looking ahead, Narayana expects its integrated care business to account for a larger share of overall revenue. At present, cardiac sciences and oncology contribute approximately 33 per cent and 16 per cent, respectively. On Tuesday, the Clinical Research team and Medha AI developed an artificial intelligence (AI) model that predicts left ventricular ejection fraction from ECG images, enabling early heart failure detection and improved diagnostic access. 'All along we have waited for Western countries to develop these technologies. Today we are developing this because this country is blessed with phenomenally skilled, passionate software engineers and AI experts. This is our strength. We have made massive investments in building the digital platform, which is far ahead of all the other hospitals. With the great combination of a digital platform and the AI tool, healthcare will never be the same,' said Devi Prasad Shetty, chairman and founder of Narayana Health, at a media briefing. The company said that trained on over 100,000 ECG images paired with echocardiogram reports, the model showed strong predictive performance. With external validation across 14 tertiary centres and over 57,000 patients, it identified 97 per cent of individuals with severely reduced ejection fraction (≤35 per cent).

Goa govt absorbed expenditure of Rs 65cr under zero water bill scheme
Porvorim: During the period for which the PWD implemented the Zero Water Bill Scheme, from Sep 1, 2021, to April 30, 2025, it issued 41.9 lakh zero bills to domestic consumers. The total bill amount of Rs 65.5 crore was waived under the scheme, stated the reply tabled in the assembly by chief minister Pramod Sawant to a question by Velim MLA Cruz Silva. Goa govt officially ended its zero-bill scheme on May 1. The scheme allowed the drinking water bill to be waived for families who limited their usage to less than 16,000 litres of water per month. The idea behind the scheme was to encourage the judicious use of drinking water resources. However, the CM said that earlier this year, the scheme of free water to consumers had to be stopped due to the misuse of water to wash cars or sustain gardens. He said govt is already supplying treated water to consumers by bearing a loss of Rs 16 per litre. Sawant said that the total water demand for domestic, commercial, and industrial uses is 695MLD — with system losses being factored in. The CM told the House that the highest demand for water at 146.5MLD is in Salcete taluka, followed by 123MLD in Bardez, and 94MLD in Tiswadi. He, however, said that no village of Goa faces an acute water shortage. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Jennifer Garner's sweet photo on sprawling family farm gets fans talking Watch More Undo 'The complaints regarding water shortages or non-supply of water are of a localised nature due to power failure, leakages, breakdowns, and the blockage of pipelines,' he said. The CM said these problems are attended to within the shortest possible time. 'In such eventualities, tanker supply is resorted to as a short-term measure. However, as a long-term measure, govt is investing in upgrading and modernising water treatment facilities, distribution networks, and storage systems,' he said. Sawant stated that 11 projects for new water treatment plants or augmentation of the capacity of existing plants are under process. He said that three plants — at Ganjem, Tuem, and Siolim — will be commissioned in Dec 2025.
