Nebraska closes out the regular season with sweep over Maryland on record-setting Sunday
The Nebraska softball (38-12, 17-5) closed out the regular season on Sunday morning, wrapping up its conference series with Maryland (18-31, 3-19). The Huskers earned the victory and the sweep on the day, taking down the Terrapins 9-1 in six.
This marked Nebraska's 22nd run-rule win of the season, the most in program history. The team also drew a crowd of 2,628 on Sunday to bring the total weekend attendance to 7,929, the highest-attended three-game series in school history.
The Huskers also set a new program record in total runs on the season, finishing with 409 across 50 games.
Nebraska wasted no time getting things going, scoring four runs in the bottom of the first. The Huskers scored twice in the second and once in the third, before Ava Kuszak hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the sixth to end it.
Jordyn Bahl also hit a home run, leading the team off in the bottom of the first with her only hit of the game. Kuszak finished 2-for-3 at the plate, earning three RBIs.
Bella Bacon led the team in hits, striking three, while also earning one RBI. Samantha Bland, Ava Bredwell and Olivia DiNardo all brought in one RBI and one hit on the day.
Bahl (22-5) secured the win in the pitching circle, starting the game and throwing 4.0 scoreless and hitless innings, striking out seven batters. Kylee Magee tossed the final 2.0 innings, earning two strikeouts and allowing three hits and one run.
Nebraska now heads to West LaFayette, Indiana for the Big Ten Tournament, which is set to begin on Wednesday. The Huskers start their tournament run on Thursday after finishing in the top four in the conference standings.

WATCH: Ohio State football player, staffer compete in three-point shooting contest

WATCH: Ohio State football player, staffer compete in three-point shooting contest In case you haven't noticed, the Ohio State football program is passing the time during a slow summer by competing in some "June Olympics." It's a competition of different athletic competitions between the OSU staff and the players, and so far it's been a hoot to watch it all go down. The staff got out to an early lead, but the players won three events in a row to take a 3-1 lead before the older guys trimmed the lead to 3-2. And now, after the latest event, a three-point shooting contest between OSU staffer Matt Guerrieri and wide receiver Bryson Rodgers, things are all tied up. That's because Guerrieri battled through some suspect shots to bury the one that mattered, giving the staff the win and even the competition at 3-3. If you missed any of the action, get a look at the cliff notes version of what went down on the courts of the Woody Hayes Athletic Center. We're not sure when these June Olympics are over, or how many events there are, but it's fun to watch and keep up with, so we'll do our best to stay on top of it. We say, go old guys. Zach Eflin (6-2) allowed a run over 6 2/3 innings for his third consecutive victory. Keegan Akin struck out pinch-hitter Jahmai Jones to strand two and escape the seventh when it was a one-run game. Ramón Urías hit a two-run shot off Casey Mize (5-3) before the Orioles got going against the Tigers' bullpen. Gunnar Henderson singled in a run off Tyler Holton in the seventh. Then Cedric Mullin got the eighth started with an RBI double off Brenan Hanifee before scoring on a wild pitch. Ryan O'Hearn followed with a two-run double off Beau Brieske, before Westburg hooked Brieske's 1-0 offering around the left-field foul pole. Colt Keith provided the Tigers' run on an RBI double that struck high off the out-of-town scoreboard in right. Mize (6-2) struck out seven and walked two over 5 1/3 innings. Key moment After Keith's double cut it to 2-1, Detroit inserted Dillon Dingler to pinch hit with runners on second and third. Eflin induced Dingler into a sharp grounder to third, and Urías fired home in plenty of time for Adley Rutschman to tag out Wenceel Perez as the potential tying run. Key stat Eflin has now posted a 1.47 ERA in three career starts against the Tigers (18 1/3 IP, 3 ER). Up next Detroit's reigning AL Cy Young winner Tarik Skubal (6-2, 2.16 ERA) looks for his first consecutive wins since mid-April after allowing only one run across his last three starts (23 2/3 IP). The lefty faces Orioles right-hander Dean Kremer (5-6, 4.98), who walked a season-high four batters and allowed five runs over 5 2/3 innings in a 7-0 loss at Detroit on April 27.
