Kakasura, the demon in crow form, pecked at Sita's breast and the wound began to bleed. Enraged at what Kakasura had done, Lord Rama picked up a blade of grass, and aimed it at Kakasura, intending it to work like Brahmastra. The arrow flew towards Kakasura, who fled to escape it. But, no matter where he went, the arrow followed him. Finally, exhausted, he came back to Rama and fell at His feet, and his life was spared. But since the arrow could not be kept from striking a target, the demon's right eye was hit. This is all that we find in the Valmiki Ramayana. But Manavala Mamunigal, in his Srivachana Bhushanam, takes references from Paadma Purana, and says when Kakasura fell at Rama's feet, his feet were pointing towards the Lord's feet. This cannot be taken as surrender, where one places one's head at the feet of the Lord. So Sita distracted His attention, and pushed Kakasura's head close to Rama's feet. She then pointed to Rama that Kakasura had surrendered and must therefore not be killed. Thus it was Sita who was responsible for saving Kakasura.

Religious fervour marks Anivara Asthanam at Tirumala
Tirumala: The annual Anivara Asthanam was performed with religious fervour at Sri Venkateswara Swamy temple here on Wednesday. The event was attended by Pedda Jeeyar Swamy, Chinna Jeeyar Swamy, TTD chairman B R Naidu, EO J Syamala Rao and board members. From 7 am to 9 am, Sri Malayappa Swamy along with His consorts Sridevi and Bhudevi, seated in the Ghanta Mandapam on Sarvabhoopala Vahanam, facing Garudalwar while Sri Viswaksena, the Chief Commander, was placed facing south. Special pujas were performed to both Moolavirat and Utsava Murthies. Pedda Jeeyar carried six Pattu garments in a procession over his head on a plate and offered four to the Moolavirat, one each to Malayappa Swamy and Sri Vishwaksena. The temple priests performed rituals, including Parivattam, lachchana, and traditional offerings. The ceremony concluded with placing the lachchana at the holy feet of Sri Venkateswara Swamy. In the evening, the deities blessed devotees in a floral palanquin, the Pushpa Pallaki. On the auspicious occasion of the Anivara Asthanam, Pattu clothes (Sare) were offered by Sri Ranganatha Swamy temple of Srirangam, the famous Sri Vaishnava pilgrimage centre in Tamil Nadu, on Wednesday. Special pujas were performed to the Sare at the Tirumala Sri Pedda Jeeyar Swamy Mutt, adjacent to the Sri Bedi Anjaneyaswamy temple. From there, Tirumala Pedda Jeeyar Swamy, Chinna Jeeyar Swamy, TTD chairman Naidu, EO Syamala Rao, and Tamil Nadu endowments department secretary Sridharan brought the silk vastrams to the temple in a procession along four Mada streets, and later offered to the presiding deity. TTD Board members and additional EO Ch Venkaiah Chowdary, CVSO Murali krishana, Tamil Nadu endowments additional secretary Manivasagam, Srirangam temple joint commissioner Sivaram Kumar, temple chief priest Sundara Bhattar, deputy EO Lokanatham, and other senior officials also participated in the programme.

Tirumala Jeeyars begin Chaturmasya Deeksha
Tirumala: The traditional Chaturmasya Deeksha Sankalpam was launched by His Holiness Sri Pedda Jeeyar Swami of Tirumala on Sunday. According to Sri Vaishnava tradition established by Bhagavad Ramanujacharya, Chaturmasya Deeksha begins on Ashada Shuddha Ekadashi, marking the day when Sri Vishnu enters Yoga Nidra, and ends on Karthika Shuddha Ekadashi when he wakes up. This four-month period is considered spiritually significant. As part of the rituals, HH Pedda Jeeyar performed Kalasha Sthapana, Vishwaksena Aradhana, Medhini Puja and Mrutsangrahanam at the Jeeyar Mutt. Later, he proceeded with HH Chinna Jeeyar and disciples to Swami Pushkarini, Sri Varaha Swamy temple, and then to the main temple amidst Mangala Vaidyams. TTD Chairman B R Naidu, EO J Syamala Rao, Additional EO Ch Venkaiah Chowdary, and temple officials welcomed them at Mahadwaram. The Jeeyars had darshan of Sri Venkateswara and they were later presented with Melchat Vastram and Noolchat Vastram respectively. Later, both Jeeyars also offered blessings to the Chairman, EO and Additional EO on the occasion.

Families Of Air India Crash Ground Victims Continue To Mourn Loved Ones: 'Reminds Too Much...'
As the Air India flight crashed into a college mess last month, a tea stall owner named Sita lost her 13-year-old son, while a mess worker lost his mother and infant daughter. Ahmedabad Plane Crash: It has been a month since the devastating plane crash of Air India Flight AI-171, which claimed the lives of 260 people in June, but time has not moved forward for a tea stall owner who lost his son, or a mess worker whose mother and daughter were killed on the ground after the crash. The harrowing plane crash is in the news once again after the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) on Saturday released a preliminary report on the incident. The Air India flight, which departed for London's Gatwick airport from Ahmedabad on June 12, crashed moments after takeoff, into a college mess. The AAIB report revealed that the crash, one of India's deadliest aviation disasters in recent history, suffered an engine shutdown after fuel supply to both engines was interrupted. All efforts to keep the plane airborne failed, although no sabotage or contamination was reported. Victims Continue To Mourn Loved Ones As the plane crashed into the hostel mess, leaving 241 out of 242 passengers and college staff dead, tea stall owner Sita's 13-year-old son, Aakash, burned to death due to the fire that followed the crash. Sita suffered burns while trying to save her son, and remained in the hospital till Thursday. Aakash's father Suresh Patni told The Indian Express that his family had gone to stay at their ancestral village to perform funeral rites for their deceased son, while a police tent, some bedding and an industrial cooler now occupy the area where their stall was located. 'My wife has severe burns, and she has not yet healed, but she had to come with us to Patan for the prayers of our son. So, we had her discharged from the civil hospital. We will admit her elsewhere once we return to Ahmedabad," he added. Meanwhile, Ravi Thakore, a worker in the BJ College mess where the plane crashed, lost his mother, Sarla and his daughter, Aadhya, who would have turned two on Friday (June 12). He and his wife Lalita had left Aadhya with Sarla, a cook at the mess, while they left to deliver tiffins, when the deadly crash took place. The bodies of Aadhya and Sarla were identified through DNA testing and released on June 19. Ravi, whose mother, wife, father, sister, and brother-in-law were all employed at the hospital, has vowed never to set foot in BJ College and Hospital again.
