Aniruddhacharya Apologises For Saying ‘Unmarried Women Have Loose Character'

News1826-07-2025
A video shows Swami Aniruddhacharya saying that 25-year-old unmarried women have loose character. He also suggested that girls should be married at the age of 14.
A video of spiritual speaker Swami Aniruddhacharya has sparked outrage, especially among women, over his alleged derogatory comments towards 25-year-old women. The remarks, reportedly made during a religious event in Vrindavan's Gauri Gopal Ashram, have led to protests and sharp criticism from many groups.
The clip, which is being widely circulated online, features while speaking at the event. He reportedly said, 'Ab ladki late hai 25 saal ki. Ab 25 saal ki ladki chaar jagah mu maar chuki hoti hai. Sab nahi par bahut. Aur wo 25 saal ki jab aati hai toh puri jawan hoke aati hai. Jab jawan hoke aayegi toh swabhavik hai ki uski jawani kahi fisal jaegi (Now girls are marrying at the age of 25. By then, many, not all, have already been with multiple men. When a girl comes at 25, she is fully grown. Naturally, her youth may slip away somewhere)."
He also referred to the Sonam Raghuvanshi and Muskan Rastogi cases, saying, 'Jaise ki ek honeymoon manane gayi, par wo kisi aur ke sath reh chuki thi, uske sath chakkar tha. Wo drum wala case purana nahi hua jyada (Like a woman went on her honeymoon, but she had already been with someone else. That case involving the drum is not even old)." He also allegedly said that girls should be married off at the age of 14 so that they can adjust better within the family.
After the footage circulated online, widespread anger started, particularly from women and social groups. According to Navbharat Times, the women advocates of the Mathura Bar Association called the remarks anti-constitutional and sexist and submitted a complaint to the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP). The advocates also staged a protest at the Collectorate and demanded strict legal action against Aniruddhacharya.
Gunjan Sharma, state president of Shri Krishna Janmabhoomi Sangharsh Nyas, strongly reacted to the video. As per Navbharat Times, she said that she will kill such an Acharya with her shoe. Meanwhile, Pandit Dinesh Falahari, the main petitioner in the Krishna Janmabhoomi case, also condemned the remarks and stated that such insensitive comments do not suit a person in a spiritual role.
Swami Aniruddhacharya Issues An Apology
As backlash intensified, Aniruddhacharya released a video apology through his official Instagram account. In it, he claimed that the viral video had been edited to create a misleading narrative. He said only a portion of his speech was circulated, while the rest, which offered clarification, was removed.
In his statement, he said, 'Even if my incomplete words have hurt anyone, I apologise. Whether it is a man or a woman, both should be character-oriented. My comments were directed at some individuals, not the entire society." He reiterated that this clarification was edited out of the circulating video.
When asked about the authenticity of the video, Aniruddhacharya suggested the possibility of AI manipulation. He said, 'Nowadays, it is the era of AI. Anyone can present my words however they like, using AI, and the world will think it is the truth."
Despite the apology, protests from various women's and social organisations continue.

In a case where crime met clicks, a gang of burglars that came together through an Instagram group to plan and carry out house thefts across Lucknow has been busted by the Ashiyana police. Four members have been arrested, and valuables worth around ₹35 lakh have been recovered, including jewellery and a motorcycle, police confirmed on Thursday. A burglar gang that came together through an Instagram group was busted by Ashiyana police on Thursday (Sourced) Police said the gang was led by 27-year-old Sudhir Kashyap of Lucknow, who created the Instagram group to recruit members and coordinate burglaries. Namit Mishra, also from Lucknow, would spot locked homes and alert others. Gaurav Singh, 21, and Md Zeshan, 25, both from Lakhimpur Kheri, would immediately travel to Lucknow in about three hours to join the thefts. Grocery store owner held for impersonating Madhya Pradesh minister, influencing Etawah SSP

A grocery store owner has been arrested for impersonating a cabinet minister from Madhya Pradesh and trying to influence the senior superintendent of police (SSP) Etawah in connection with an ongoing criminal case. The accused also attempted to have the local station in-charge removed. (FOR REPRESENTATION) The accused, identified as Ankit Singh Parihar, a resident of Sahson Pirauli Garhia, allegedly impersonated Madhya Pradesh energy minister Pradyumna Singh Tomar and repeatedly called the SSP's official number, seeking favourable action in a case registered at Sahson police station involving his brother Lokendra Singh alias Shivam. He also attempted to have the local station in-charge removed. SSP Brijesh Kumar Srivastava stated that after receiving suspicious calls over two consecutive days, technical surveillance was initiated, which traced the caller's location near the district magistrate's residence. The suspicions were further confirmed when Ankit Singh Parihar, along with his mother and brother, visited the SSP's office to lobby for the case. He was subsequently apprehended near Lion Safari. In a revealing detail, the accused had saved his phone number under the name of energy minister Pradyumna Singh Tomar on the Truecaller app, even using the minister's photograph, in an attempt to make his calls appear authentic. A mobile phone recovered from the accused contained multiple images of Aadhaar card and other identity documents, indicating possible involvement in cyber-related offences. During interrogation, Parihar confessed to impersonating the minister in an attempt to protect his brother, who is an accused in a kidnapping case. Police also discovered forged identity cards of the UP police and fake credentials of the purported minister on the accused's mobile phone. In a startling revelation, officials disclosed that the accused had previously contacted deputy chief minister Brajesh Pathak while posing as the minister, prompting the deputy CM to follow up with the SSP. In 2018-19, Parihar had reportedly uploaded photographs of himself wearing a sub-inspector's uniform as his Instagram profile picture, which led to a case being registered against him in Gwalior's Maharajpur police station. Parihar, who has a known criminal history, has been remanded to judicial custody.

Pregnant woman attempts suicide over dowry harassment, marital disputes

Hyderabad: A criminal case has been registered against a 22-year-old unemployed youth and his family members after his 19-year-old pregnant wife attempted suicide due to alleged dowry harassment and marital disputes at her parent's place at Nallagutta. She survived the suicide bid and is recuperating at hospital. The trigger for the suicide bid was reportedly their martial disputes, including the man questioning her fidelity and the paternity of the unborn child. He also allegedly posted her private photos on a social media platform and later deleted them. In her statement to the Ramgopalpet police at Gandhi Hospital, the victim, whose family is from Nallagutta, said that she fell in love with Bheem Raj four years ago. As their families did not support the relationship, she married Bheem Raj at Arya Samaj about three months ago without informing their families. After the wedding, she moved into her husband's house in Ramanthapur, where the couple initially lived peacefully. Trouble began when Raj, who was unemployed, refused to look for work and, along with his parents and siblings, demanded dowry from the victim's family. "They started harassing me for not bringing any gold from my family. Raj started consuming liquor daily and began assaulting me in an intoxicated state. Whenever I spoke to his visiting friends, he accused me of immoral conduct and became suspicious about my character," the victim alleged. Distressed, the 19-year-old attempted suicide at her parent's home by consuming phenol and slashing her wrist. Family members rushed her to Gandhi Hospital immediately, where she is currently undergoing treatment, police said. Based on her statement at Gandhi Hospital on Aug 6 evening, the Ramgopalpet police booked Raj and his family members under Section 85 (abetment of suicide) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Section 4 of the Dowry (Prohibition) Act. "The victim is out of danger. Raj allegedly uploaded her private photos and deleted them after she saw them. We will record her statement in detail once she is discharged. The accused is absconding," Ramgopalpet inspector T Narsing Rao said. Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI).
