Ajay Devgn has faced backlash online after images of him with Shahid Afridi went viral post India vs Pakistan match cancellation in World Championship of Legends.
Bollywood actor Ajay Devgn was slammed online by netizens after images of him interacting with former Pakistan cricketer Shahid Afridi became viral, two days after an India vs Pakistan match in the World Championship of Legends was called off due to cross-border tensions.
The second edition of the England and Wales Cricket Board tournament, which is co-owned by Devgn, began on July 18 at Edgbaston in Birmingham and is scheduled for an August 2 final.
World Cup winner Yuvraj Singh is the skipper of the India Champions, while the team features the likes of Shikhar Dhawan, Harbhajan Singh, Yusuf Pathan, Irfan Pathan, Suresh Raina, Robin Uthappa and Varun Aaron among others.
The game between India and Pakistan might have been cancelled, but now netizens are expressing their anger at Devgn for meeting Afridi on the sidelines of the tournament.
'Ajay Devgn is indeed a real actor 🤡," a user tweeted on Monday morning.
'This man's career should be burned to ash today if there's even an ounce of dignity left in the people of India," another user tweeted.
Devgn did meet and chat with Afridi, but not this year. The two interacted with each other in 2024 during the inaugural edition of the World Championship of Legends, when the former flew down to Edgbaston to watch the tournament closely.
The WCL organisers shared a statement on their X account on Saturday, July 20, detailing the decision to cancel and said that their intention while holding the game between India and Pakistan was to recreate some 'happy memories."

Mohammed Siraj Lauds England Star's Bowling Against India: 'Hats Off To Him'

Last Updated: Mohammed Siraj praised Ben Stokes' impactful 24-over bowling in the Lord's Test, while emphasizing his own commitment to giving 100 percent for India out of national pride. Mohammed Siraj has tipped his hat to England captain Ben Stokes for his energetic spells against India in the Lord's Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy last week. Siraj said he 'admired' the effort from Stokes and how he tilted a balanced game in his side's favor, saying he, too, strives to do the best for India. Stokes, who has had to deal with big spells of injury over the last few years, bowled a whopping 24 overs in the final innings of the Test, eight more than the second-best. He took three key wickets, nightwatchman Akash Deep, the well-set KL Rahul, and the shrewd-in-defense 10th man Jasprit Bumrah. Later, he said that 'nothing could stop me' when he was that fired up for his team. It drew praise from India, too, especially from Irfan Pathan, who said the visiting pacers were falling short in comparison. 'I admire that kind of effort," Siraj said in the pre-match press conference when asked about Stokes. 'Bowling 10-over spells isn't easy. Hats off to him. The match was on a knife's edge, and his spell made the difference. As a bowler, I just aim to give my best for the team and pick wickets early," he added. The pacer was also reminded of his own workhorse characteristics. Siraj has bowled 109 overs in this series, the most among Indian pacers, which have ranged from brilliant to underwhelming but have never been short of effort. He's the only pacer in the team to feature in all three Tests as well. 'Touchwood, I've been built that way," Siraj said. 'Workload is one thing, and it goes in the book that Siraj has bowled this many overs, but for me, it is just another opportunity. I want to do well and want to help win matches for the country. I want to play as many matches as I can, and all I want is to give my 100 percent. That when I go to bed at night, I shouldn't feel I could have done more, no matter the results," he added. 'It's all about the motivation of playing for my country. I represent India, and that gives me the strength. I want to ensure that I give 100% on the field so I can sleep peacefully at night without regrets. The result doesn't matter as much as knowing that I gave my all. That's my mindset every time I step onto the field," he further said. view comments Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Please keep discussions respectful and constructive. Saiyaara Box Office Day 4: Ahaan Panday's Film Shatters All Monday Records, Earns Rs 106 Cr

Last Updated: Saiyaara Box Office Collection Day 4: Saiyaara earns Rs 106 crore in 4 days, becoming the biggest debut film opener with only 8,000 shows across India. Saiyaara Box Office Collection Day 4: There's no stopping Saiyaara. Even on Monday, traditionally a slow day for box office collections, the Mohit Suri directorial held strong. Starring newcomers Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda, Saiyaara collected an estimated Rs 22.50 crore on Day 4, bringing its total to Rs 106 crore, according to Released on July 18, the film opened to a massive Rs 25 crore (approx. $2.9 million) on Day 1 in India. As per figures shared by YRF, nearly 9.75 lakh people watched the film in theatres on its opening day—making it the biggest opening day for a Hindi film led by debutants. It beat the previous record set by Dhadak (Rs 8.76 crore) in 2018. In fact, Saiyaara also emerged as the highest opening day earner for a romantic film in recent years, surpassing Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani (Rs 11.1 crore), Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya (Rs 6.7 crore), Tu Jhoothi Main Makkar (Rs 15.73 crore), and Kabir Singh (Rs 20.21 crore). Advance booking numbers reflected the buzz, with Rs 9.39 crore earned before the film even hit theatres. 3.8 lakh tickets were sold in advance, including 1.38 lakh across national chains like PVR INOX (1.05 lakh) and Cinepolis (33,000). This made it the highest opening day ticket sales for a debut film since Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai and Refugee in 2000. Director Mohit Suri, best known for Aashiqui 2 and Ek Villain, has now delivered the biggest opening of his career. Saiyaara's Rs 21 crore nett Day 1 beats his previous bests Ek Villain (Rs 16.70 crore), Murder 2 (Rs 6.95 crore), and Aashiqui 2 (Rs 6.10 crore). Remarkably, the film achieved all this with just 8,000 screenings across India, less than half the usual count for films of this scale. Despite the limited show count, many theatres reported houseful shows in major cities. Globally, Saiyaara raked in $11.9 million over its opening weekend, placing it at number 9 on the global box office chart, per Comscore. The Indian weekend gross was $6.6 million, with the final tally expected to go higher. First Published: July 21, 2025, 22:32 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Rishabh Pant Back To Keeping Wickets, Anshul Kamboj Bats And Bowls Before 4th Test

Last Updated: Akash Deep, nursing a groin injury, did not bowl in India's training session ahead of the fourth Test. Rishabh Pant appeared fit to play. Soon after gently rolling his arm over in the field of play, Akash Deep cut a forlorn figure as uncapped Anshul Kamboj and Prasidh Krishna bowled at full tilt during India's first outdoor training session ahead of the fourth Test. Akash Deep, nursing a groin injury since the Lord's Test, did not receive the green light from the team physio to bowl in the nets after undergoing a fitness evaluation in the middle under the watchful eyes of coach Morne Morkel. Minutes later, he stood as a spectator during the net session alongside Arshdeep Singh, who has been ruled out of the game due to a hand injury. If Akash Deep is also deemed unfit, the team management will need to choose between Prasidh Krishna or Anshul Kamboj for the third pacer's slot alongside Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj. Kamboj, who joined the team over the weekend as cover for the injured Arshdeep, was added to the main squad on Monday, raising the possibility of a surprise debut. The pacer from Haryana bowled for close to an hour in the nets with high intensity alongside Siraj, Bumrah, Prasidh, and Shardul Thakur. Kamboj also padded up for a brief batting session alongside Thakur, who could directly replace injured all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy. Siraj bowled with the highest intensity against the likes of Shubman Gill, K L Rahul, and Rishabh Pant, while Bumrah moved to the field of play for more bowling after finding the practice surface slippery. Rishabh Pant bats and keeps pain-free All eyes were also on Rishabh Pant, who had not kept wickets at Lord's after injuring his fingers on the opening day of the second Test. While batting on day five, Pant grimaced every time he defended against a seriously quick Jofra Archer. Considering he performed keeping drills and batted pain-free for an hour, Pant appears fit enough to start the fourth Test. Pant is always up for some banter, even with his teammates, as was evident when he shared the nets with skipper Shubman Gill. There was no apparent discomfort while batting against Mohammed Siraj, Kamboj, and Krishna. There is also speculation over Karun Nair's slot in the playing eleven, but he batted with plenty of purpose. Sai Sudharsan, who could replace Nair in the playing eleven, was also seen taking catching practice in the slip cordon. With Nitish Reddy on his way back to India, Yashasvi Jaiswal was back doing catching drills in the slip cordon.
