Missing British woman disappeared in Spain holiday hotspot three days ago
Fears are growing for a British woman who vanished from a popular Spanish resort three days ago.
Jennifer Frances Lacey, 41, went missing from Vera on Monday, July 28. Her disappearance was reported by the SOS Missing Persons Association. She is described as measuring 5ft 2in and having curly brown hair, blue eyes and wears prescription glasses. Investigations are ongoing into whether Jennifer is a tourist or a resident.
SOS Missing Persons is urging locals with information about his whereabouts to contact them by calling 868286726 or emailing info@sosdesaparecidos.es. Those in Spain are also advised to call the emergency number 112. It comes after a Brit mum's 'horrendous' death after being scratched by a puppy with rabies on holiday.
The British mother endured "horrendous headaches" before losing her ability to walk or speak, ultimately succumbing to rabies following a "mild scratch" from a puppy whilst on holiday, her daughter has revealed.
Yvonne Ford, from Barnsley in South Yorkshire, was holidaying in Morocco with her husband in February when she encountered the stray dog that had been resting beneath her sunbed. However, due to the seemingly insignificant nature of the scratch, the 59-year-old dismissed it entirely, only falling seriously ill months later upon returning to the UK, prompting a visit to Barnsley Hospital.
Her daughter Robyn Thomson described how the rabies progressed gradually, initially disrupting her mother's sleep patterns before robbing her of the ability to speak or swallow. The grandmother-of-four also began experiencing hallucinations and developed hydrophobia.
She was subsequently moved to Royal Hallamshire Hospital in Sheffield, where medics finally identified the rare yet devastating virus, and tragically she died on June 11.
Neonatal nurse Robyn, 32, from Barnsley, described her mother as a "huge animal lover" who possessed the "biggest heart".
"[Mum] was the most loving person imaginable. She had the biggest heart. She was my best friend and the most fantastic grandparent to mine and my brother's children. She was a huge animal lover so for her to have died of rabies - it is just particularly horrendous. She will be missed so dearly," she said. Robyn revealed that her mother's passing came as an enormous blow to the entire family, particularly given the lengthy period before symptoms emerged, explaining: "She and dad were on a holiday in Morocco and they were on a private beach next to the hotel. There was a puppy underneath mum's sunbed and it scratched her leg.
"There was no blood and no evidence of the dog being unwell. It was such a mild scratch and it never got infected so we just thought nothing of it at the time. Mum came home and everything was normal. We went to Florida as a family and she went fishing with my dad.
"But in June she came down with this horrendous headache. She was in a lot of pain so went to hospital. Soon, she couldn't sleep, she couldn't walk, she couldn't talk. She was hallucinating and had a fear of water. She couldn't swallow. She was choking on her own saliva. So doctors put her in an induced coma.
"It wasn't until over a week later that she was diagnosed with rabies. There's only one outcome for rabies once symptoms develop and it's death every time. So we had to turn off her life support."
The family later discovered that whilst rabies symptoms typically manifest after several months, the lethal virus can remain dormant for as long as two years.

Brit schoolgirl, 13, drowned while snorkelling with dad at Florida theme park – as tributes pour in to ‘beautiful soul'
HOLIDAY TRAGEDY Brit schoolgirl, 13, drowned while snorkelling with dad at Florida theme park – as tributes pour in to 'beautiful soul' Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) A BRITISH schoolgirl, 13, drowned while snorkelling at a theme park in Florida, an inquest heard. Anna Beaumont, from St Fagans, Cardiff, tragically died on a family holiday while swimming at the Discovery Cove theme park in Orlando. Sign up for Scottish Sun newsletter Sign up The schoolgirl was spotted "floating and unresponsive" in the natural-style pool on May 28 last year. An inquest, held in Pontypridd, heard the teen had been snorkelling with her dad Peter. He left her side to go and see her younger brother but he heard a lifeguard whistle around ten minutes later. Anna was discovered in the water without her snorkel, and with blood and water in her mask. She was rushed to Arnold Palmer Hospital but sadly did not regain consciousness. Coroner Kerrie Burge said Anna died the following day, and a medical cause of death was given as immersion in water. The inquest heard keen rower Anna was a "strong swimmer with no current health concerns." She had previously been diagnosed with childhood absence epilepsy in July 2016 after she was seizure free for three years. The coroner said: "Whilst a small risk of seizures remained, Anna had not experienced any. "There is no evidence to confirm how Anna came to be unresponsive in the water. "She was not seen to have a seizure or to encounter any difficulties and there was no medical evidence of seizure activity during her time in hospital or at post mortem examination." The coroner concluded: "Anna died following immersion in water. "It is not possible to establish, on the balance of probabilities, how Anna came to be in difficulties in the water." 1 Anna Beaumont, from St Fagans, Cardiff, tragically died on a family holiday Credit: WNS More to follow... Family's dream holiday turns to nightmare as man fights for life after complaining of dodgy belly
Family's dream holiday turns to nightmare as man fights for life after complaining of dodgy belly The Vorrias family were on the final day of their summer trip to Zakynthos when their brother became critically ill and his travel insurance was declared void Elias Vorrias, 47; Yiota Vorrias, 50; and Jenny Vorrias, 52, pictured while on holiday (Image: Supplied) A British family are stuck in Greece caring for their critically ill brother after his travel insurance was deemed invalid. The Vorrias family, from Loughborough, were enjoying what they described as the "absolute time of our lives" holiday in Zakynthos when Elias Vorrias fell ill. Elias, a 47 year old German shepherd breeder, had been sunbathing on Monday, July 21 - just days before he was due to return home. The next day, he began feeling "a bit shivery" with an "icky tummy", which the family initially attributed to the heat. However, by Tuesday, July 22, he was struggling to breathe and couldn't get out of bed, leading to an urgent call for an ambulance. Elias was swiftly taken to a medical centre and then transferred to Zakynthos General Hospital on the same day. For our free daily briefing on the biggest issues facing the nation, sign up to the Wales Matters newsletter here . The following morning (Wednesday, July 23), as his sisters Yiota and Jenny Vorrias were preparing to fly back home, Elias' doctors informed them that "he's dying" and his condition was worsening, necessitating his move to the intensive care unit (ICU). Elias's bank travel insurance provider has subsequently rendered his policy null and void owing to part of it being deemed invalid, reports Leicestershire Live. His relatives now confront a €40,000 bill for medical repatriation and are financing their prolonged stay in Greece independently, missing employment and spending approximately £80 daily on lodging and vehicle rental. Yiota and her sibling were compelled to deliver continuous care for Elias during the initial 24 hours on the general ward, since which time he has contracted sepsis from a liver infection and multiple organ failure and is presently sedated in intensive care. Yiota informed LeicestershireLive: "We were on a family vacation and having the absolute time of our lives and then everything changed. In Greece, you don't get any nursing care when you're on a general ward. They expect the family to look after the patient. The nurses are just there to give the medication." The family has already received a €2,114 bill from the initial medical centre, which they cannot presently settle. Yiota explained: "We've said to them, you might have to just wait because we're still stuck in Greece we can't pay it at the moment, but we promise we will pay it because without your care and sending him to the hospital, he might not be here now." Elias, who enjoyed a career in dance and entertainment whilst touring the globe aboard cruise ships, has been characterised by mates as the "most kindest, generous person that will do anything for anybody." However, his deteriorating state has rendered him "almost like delirious", with Yiota explaining: "He's just trying to fight me and my sister whenever we're trying to stop him getting off the bed." Medical staff have informed the family "it's a miracle he's got this far" according to Yiota, as Elias continues his fight against sepsis and multiple organ failure. He has also contracted pneumonia and remains unconscious due to a bronchial spasm which triggers distress when disturbed. The relatives say they have been living "from hour to hour" and then "day to day" whilst his condition stays critical. Both sisters have full-time employment they were due to resume in Loughborough on Thursday, July 24, yet they remain stuck abroad caring for Elias. Their 76 year old mum travelled out to Greece but found the 40C temperatures overwhelming, forcing her to remain indoors. The family interpreted the insurance firm's notification that no financial assistance would be provided as confirmation they were "on their own" following the voiding of Elias's policy. Yiota commented: " We want to warn other families about making sure you share any past and present medical information, no matter how old, with any 'free' bank travel insurance you may have, to ensure no other families go through the nightmare we are living in another country right now." A JustGiving page has been established to assist the family in raising the £38,000 required for an ICU air ambulance to bring Elias home for ongoing care. Further details, including how to contribute, can be found by searching for Elias Vorrias on the JustGiving website. Article continues below

Miracle man survives iron stake plunging through body millimetres from heart
A man who was skewered through the heart in a tragic workplace incident after falling through a giant metal pole has somehow made a recovery after being cut free from the spike Despite having an iron stake pierce through his chest - from one side to the other - one man escaped death after a horror accident at work. It was a regular day for Assalam Alekium when he went to work on his construction site in Dagestan, Russia, until the 24-year-old lost his balance, falling through a giant iron rod that pierced straight through his chest, skewering him in what was set to be a gruesome and fatal incident. With the metal stake piercing through his back and missing his heart by just a few millimetres, in the first miracle, it managed to avoid any major organs - not killing him instantly. Doctors from the local hospital soon arrived at the scene, where a team worked using grinders to cut through the metal that was secured to the ground, allowing him to be carefully moved off the building site for some proper care. It comes after a schoolboy, 13, has both legs amputated after 'getting cramp' at sports camp. Speaking about the shocking incident, the local health ministry said: 'One of the [metal rods] went right through the man's chest, which, having penetrated from the back on the left, came out in the front on the right. The wound channel ran through the projection of vital organs and structures.' Once at the hospital, Assalam went straight into surgery, where they opened up his chest and attempted to pull out the rod. A spokesperson for the ministry added: 'The patient underwent emergency surgery. A wide opening of the chest was performed, the integrity of vital organs and structures was restored, internal bleeding was stopped. Surgical treatment of the affected bones and soft tissues was performed.' But in his second miracle, the 24-year-old's surgery was successful, with doctors managing to remove the sharp instrument and stop the bleeding, with his recovery beginning soon after. Still in the hospital, the builder is 'confidently recovering and preparing for discharge' and should soon be back at home with just a few scars. Dubbed 'the miracle man', Assalam said: 'I feel good. Thanks to all the doctors. They helped me a lot, they gave me [life].' The news in Russia comes shortly after a miracle escape on British soil when a man survived a 200ft fall at a popular Devon beach. The lucky walker who plummeted from the top of Haven Cliffs near Sidmouth somehow managed to walk away from the distressing experience with nothing more than a stern talking to. Having become stuck but uninjured after the fall, a HM coastguard helicopter had to come to the rescue to airlift him free. Beer Coastguard Rescue Team said he was then "allowed to go on his way" when he was rescued, with his calls for help having been heard by local kayakers.
