Ara Mina explains the reason behind her different screen names
Born Hazel Pascual Reyes, the award-winning actress shared the reason behind her screen name in "Fast Talk With Boy Abunda" on Monday.
According to Ara, her screen name was derived from her sister Cristine Reyes' first name and their other sister.
"Inintroduce ako sa 'That's Entertainment,' Ara Mina 'yung name ko. And 'yung Ara Mina, 'yon iyong name ni Cristine [which is] Ara Cristine and Mina name ng isa kong sister Mina Princess," Ara shared, adding that it was her mom who chose that screen name for her.
After using the screen name Ara Mina for some time, she changed it to Ara Mina-Reyes for the 1995 movie "Si Mario at Si Goko."
"Nilagyan naman ng Mommy ko ng Reyes kasi parang ang dating daw kasi ng Ara Mina is parang first name lang. Parang walang apelyido, parang Ara Mina, Carmina ganoon. So nilagyan niya ng Reyes," she said.
The third screen name she used was Dara Mina, and according to Ara it was because of Donna Cruz.
"Ang story po diyan ay 'Nako, sikat na sikat sila Donna Cruz, sikat na sikat sila ganyan.' 'Yung mga initials ng mga sikat, so parang lagyan natin ng ano, gawin nating ano, alisin na natin 'yung Reyes, masyado raw mahaba," she recalled.
"So ginawa niya [mom] para ano, Dara Mina doon sa pelikulang 'Flor Contemplacion," Ara added.
The fourth screen name she had was Danica Gomez, which she used at the height of Charlene Gonzales' popularity.
"Sumikat si Charlene Gonzalez, so 'yung G, may letter G si Gonzalez. Sabi ni mommy, 'Nako masyadong maikli ang Dara. Gawin nating Danica. Tapos sikat sila ano Richard Gomez, gawin nating Gomez," she said.
Despite using different screen names, people knew her as Ara Mina, which ultimately led her to officially use the name.
In 2021, Ara Mina got married to Philippine International Trading Corporation (PITC) President and CEO Dave Almarinez. —Jade Veronique Yap/MGP, GMA Integrated News

Ybrahim's cause of death revealed in 'Encantadia Chronicles: Sang'gre'
"Encantadia Chronicles: Sang'gre" finally revealed the cause of death of Ybrahim (Ruru Madrid). The King of Sapiro passed away earlier in the series, but there no explanation for it. Now, Encantadiks finally got the answer: he died of a broken heart. Monday's episode showed Ybrahim mourning Amihan (Kylie Padilla), who died in the 2016 "Encantandia." Overwhelmed by grief, the King of Sapiro fell into a slump—neglecting his people and retreating into the shadows. His people, along with Imaw, urged him to breathe new life into Sapiro by siring an heir who will take the throne after him. But Ybrahim could only cry out in despair. The king said he already has a child—Lira (Mikee Quintos), his daughter by Amihan. However, the princess was part of the succession of Lireo, a duty she already declined. "Kailangan ng Sapiro anak na kikilalanin nito. Rehav, iyan ang pamanang iiwan mo sa lahat ng iyong nasasakupan," Imaw said. "Binawi sa akin ng Bathala ang aking kaligayan, kung kaya't hayaan natin siya ang pumili kung sino ang babaeng magdadala ng pag-asa sa Sapiro," Ybrahim answered. Alarmed by Ybrahim's desperation, Imaw asked Bathalumang Emre to send Ybrahim the rightful woman who will stand as the Queen of Sapiro. With the help of a retre, Sapiro found a new queen in Ybrahim's former flame Alena (Gabbi Garcia) who gave birth to their daughter Armea (Ysabel Ortega). As Armea became the heir of Sapiro, Alena abandoned her post as the queen of Lireo to be a mother, Ybrahim's wife, and the Queen of Sapiro. Despite it all, Sapiro remained in despair, as Ybrahim continued to grieve the loss of his great love. Clutching a miniature figure of Amihan, a tearful Ybrahim retreated into the darkness, confessing that he was tired of pretending to be happy. As he voiced his regrets for himself, his daughters, and Alena, Ybrahim pleaded with Emre to let him let go of everything and be reunited with Amihan. "Amihan, handa na ako," he said and hugged the figure tightly. With these final words, a blinding light enveloped Ybrahim, who quietly and peacefully passed away on the throne. "Encantadia Chronicles: Sang'gre" airs on GMA Network from Mondays to Fridays at 8 p.m. after "24 Oras." You can also watch it online via the Kapuso Stream on YouTube. —Jade Veronique Yap/MGP, GMA Integrated News
