Soccer-Swedish FA condemns spectator's attempted assault on Osters player during match
(Reuters) -The Swedish FA issued a statement of condemnation on Friday after a top-tier match between IFK Gothenburg and Osters IF was marred when a spectator attempted to assault an Osters player.
The incident, which led to a temporary halt in the match, has sparked outrage with the FA adding they would review the match delegate's report.
During the league match at Gamla Ullevi stadium, an individual stormed the pitch minutes after visitors Osters scored, attempting to punch defender Sebastian Starke Hedlund from behind.
Hedlund managed to dodge the blow, leading to a pause of about an hour in the match, which was subsequently restarted despite objections from Osters.
"I am very upset. My players are very upset. That we wanted to go home is an understatement," said Osters coach Martin Foyston, adding that his team would have faced a 3-0 loss had they not completed the match as per league rules, which state that a temporarily halted game must be completed within 24 hours.
The Swedish FA said in a statement that it "strongly condemns the serious foul play that occurred during the match ... last night, when a person entered the pitch and attacked a player.
"The Swedish Football Association's legal department is now awaiting the match delegate's report, which will be processed according to current procedures."
Swedish media reported that the perpetrator was detained by security and handed over to police, with an investigation currently underway.
"He will in all likelihood be suspended for a considerable period of time and that will of course also result in an organiser suspension. He will be banned from entering and so on," Jonas Arlmark, IFK Gothenburg's security manager, told Expressen.
In a statement released on Friday, IFK Gothenburg condemned the incident as "beyond the limit and unacceptable."
Osters won the match 1-0, thanks to an own goal by Elis Bishesari.

Sweden charges four over hip hop star killing
STOCKHOLM: Swedish prosecutors on Tuesday charged four people over the 2024 killing of a rapper who had been named the country's hip hop artist of the year the month before his death. Masked 26-year-old rapper -- whose real name was Karar Ramadan, and not to be confused with American rapper Childish Gambino -- was the victim of a shooting in June 2024. The Swedish Prosecution Authority said two men were being charged with 'murder or aiding and abetting murder, as well as aggravated weapons offences' over the shooting in a parking garage in the city of Gothenburg. A third man was charged with 'aggravated protecting a criminal', while a fourth was charged with the same crime plus 'aiding and abetting murder'. 'The act is both ruthless and premeditated. It was also committed as part of a conflict between two networks that has been ongoing for several years,' prosecutor Shahrzad Rahimi said in a statement, adding that there was 'no direct evidence that the victim personally belonged to the network'. was named hip hop artist of the year at the 2024 Swedish recording industry's Grammis Awards. Another award-winning Swedish rapper, Einar, was shot and killed in Stockholm in a gang conflict in October 2021. The Scandinavian country has struggled to contain surging gang violence in recent years, with shootings and bombings now weekly occurrences across the country.

Sweden charges man over 2014 killing of Jordan pilot in Syria
STOCKHOLM (Reuters) -Swedish prosecutors pressed charges on Tuesday against a man on suspicion of war crimes and terrorism over the murder of a Jordanian air force pilot who was burned to death in Syria a decade ago. The Swede, named in court documents as Osama Krayem, 32, has previously been convicted of involvement in attacks in Paris in 2015 and in Brussels in 2016. The Islamic State militant group, which once imposed a reign of terror over millions of people in Syria and Iraq, captured Jordanian pilot Muath al-Kasasbeh in December 2014 and later published a video of him being burned alive in a cage. The Swedish Prosecution Authority charged Krayem with gross war crimes and terrorism, the indictment showed. "Krayem, together with and in agreement with other perpetrators belonging to IS, killed/deprived Muath al-Kasasbeh of his life," the authority said in the indictment. It said Krayem had forced the pilot to the cage and that he also posed for a camera, knowing the footage would be dispersed as a manifestation of a plan and ideology advocated by Islamic State. Krayem's Swedish lawyer did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Krayem has been temporarily transferred to Sweden from France to stand trial at the Stockholm district court. Islamic State controlled swathes of Iraq and Syria between 2014 and 2017, and was defeated in its last bastions in Syria in 2019. Under Swedish legislation, courts can try people for crimes against international law committed abroad. (Reporting by Anna Ringstrom, editing by Terje Solsvik and Bernadette Baum)

'Hasn't sunk in yet': Arsenal's Blackstenius after Champions League winner
LISBON: Arsenal hero Stina Blackstenius said she can barely believe scoring the winner which helped the Gunners upset Barcelona in the women's Champions League final on Saturday. The Swedish striker came on in the second half and made a huge impact to score on the counter-attack as Arsenal won the trophy for the second time after their 2007 triumph. "It will take a moment to be like 'we actually won', it's such a big moment and it hasn't sunk in yet," she told DAZN. "I'm so happy with (the goal) but this is a team performance... I'm so proud of everyone, they made it possible for me." Barcelona have dominated women's football recent years, winning three of the last four editions of the Champions League, including the last two. However, Arsenal had the better of the first half and showed resilience in the second to triumph, as Blackstenius netted in the final stages. "Some people had the game of their lives. I am so happy," Arsenal defender Leah Williamson, who excelled in her battle with Barcelona striker Ewa Pajor, told TNT Sports. "In the first half we had chances and I don't think people believed how good they were. We said 'second half we just need one chance' and Stina took it. "I'm trying not to swear or cry!" said Arsenal coach Renee Slegers, who added she was proud of her team's fighting spirit to hold off the Catalans in the second half. "There are signs that when you are a winning team, you struggle together, you suffer together, you find ways to win," she told DAZN. "In critical, high-pressure moments, we've done that this season." —AFP
