Devils' Jonas Siegenthaler practices, questionable for Game 3
April 24 - New Jersey Devils defenseman Jonas Siegenthaler participated in practice on Thursday for the first time since sustaining his lower-body injury on Feb. 4.
Siegenthaler remains questionable for Friday's Game 3 of the Eastern Conference first-round series against the Carolina Hurricanes in Newark, N.J. The Hurricanes lead 2-0 in the best-of-seven series.
"We're going to see where he's at and continue to talk to him," Devils coach Sheldon Keefe said. "It's his first practice with the team in a long time, so it's just a matter of being aggressive. ... Time's not exactly our friend right now, so we're going to see where he's at and continue to have conversations with him."
Siegenthaler, 27, has been able to skate on his own the last few weeks.
"I think he's changed his mindset, as have we, in terms of his preparation," Keefe said. "It was more so he was going to be a May type of timeline, and we're getting more aggressive with that now to see how we can push it just given the circumstances."
Siegenthaler of Switzerland had nine points (two goals, seven assists), a plus-9 rating, 44 penalty minutes, 92 blocked shots and 75 hits in 55 games this season.
He has 66 career points (10 goals, 56 assists) with a plus-32 rating, 207 penalty minutes, 612 blocks and 463 hits in 367 regular-season games with the Washington Capitals (2018-21) and Devils. He also has three points (one goal, two assists) and a minus-10 rating in 22 playoff games with the Capitals and Devils.

Report: Rockets, Wolves rebuff Knicks' request to poach coaches
June 11 - The New York Knicks' coaching search is reportedly off to a sputtering start. The Houston Rockets and Minnesota Timberwolves refused the Knicks' request to speak with head coaches Ime Udoka and Chris Finch, respectively, ESPN reported Tuesday night. The news comes a week after former Villanova coach Jay Wright reportedly stated that he would not be a candidate to take over for the fired Tom Thibodeau. According to multiple media reports, the Knicks also are eyeing Dallas Mavericks head coach Jason Kidd. However, The Athletic reported Tuesday that the Mavericks expect Kidd, 52, to remain with them. According to ESPN and The Athletic, the Knicks have not yet asked the Mavericks if they can talk to Kidd, whose contract runs two more seasons. Thibodeau was ousted days after the Knicks made the Eastern Conference finals for the first time since 2000, with their playoff run including a six-game second-round victory over the reigning NBA champion Boston Celtics. In five seasons with New York, Thibodeau, 67, compiled a 226-174 record, leading the team to the playoffs four teams. He also was head coach of the Chicago Bulls (2010-11 to 2014-15) and the Timberwolves (2016-17 to 2018-19) and owns a career mark of 578-420 during the regular season. Udoka, 47, led the Celtics to the NBA Finals in his lone season as Boston's head coach in 2021-22. He was suspended by the team for the following season due to a violation of team policy after allegedly having an improper relationship with a female staffer and ultimately was fired. Udoka coached the Rockets the past two seasons, producing a combined 93-71 regular-season record. Finch, 55, just finished his fifth season in charge in Minnesota and led the Timberwolves to the postseason for the fourth year in a row, including Western Conference finals appearances the past two years. Reports: Jay Wright not interested in coaching Knicks
June 8 - Although the Knicks have three players whom Jay Wright coached at Villanova, the retired Hall of Famer will not resume his career with New York, multiple media outlets reported on Saturday. Per the reports, Wright and Knicks president Leon Rose -- who are close -- had a discussion about the coaching vacancy but a formal interview was not scheduled. Following their first trip to the Eastern Conference finals in 25 years, the Knicks fired Tom Thibodeau on Tuesday after just one season at the helm. At Villanova, Wright coached current Knicks Jalen Brunson, Josh Hart and Mikal Bridges, who were all members of the program's 2016 national championship team. After 21 seasons at Villanova, Wright retired in 2022 and became a college basketball analyst for CBS and TNT. He compiled a 520-197 record at the school. Commenting on social media regarding the reports that Wright would not be coaching the Knicks, Hart jokingly posted, "Man Thank You. Stay retired!" Capitals coach Spencer Carbery claims Jack Adams Award
June 7 - Spencer Carbery of the Washington Capitals was named the winner of the 2024-25 Jack Adams Award on Saturday. The honor is presented to the NHL coach who is judged to have made the biggest contribution to a team's success. While attending what he thought was a season-ending interview, the 43-year-old Carbery was presented with the award by his wife, Casey, and their children, Hudson and Vivian. . "Wow, I had no idea," a clearly stunned and choked-up Carbery said. If that weren't emotional enough for Carbery, extended family members from throughout the U.S. and Canada also were there to share in the moment. Carbery led the Capitals to a 51-22-9 (111 points) record this season as the team finished first in the Eastern Conference in his second season as Washington's coach. He becomes the fourth coach in franchise history to win the award, joining Bryan Murray (1983-84), Bruce Boudreau (2007-08) and Barry Trotz (2015-16). He is also the first person recognized as coach of the year in the ECHL, AHL and NHL. The members of the NHL Broadcasters' Association select the Jack Adams winner. Carbery received 81 first-place votes on the 103 ballots cast and finished with 464 points. Scott Arniel of the Winnipeg Jets had 249 points, followed by Martin St. Louis of the Montreal Canadiens with 66.
