Speaking during a virtual meet with authorities of the Southern Power Distribution Company of Telangana Ltd (TGSPDCL) led by its Chairman and Managing Director Md. The farming community was using pump-sets widely with the availability of round-the-clock free power to irrigate the crops, leading to high energy demand even during the monsoon season. They stated that there was a growth of nearly 31% peak demand in Greater Hyderabad on July 21 compared to the same day last. Similarly, the energy consumption too was up by over 35% on the same this year, compared to last year. Availability of groundwater due to good rains and paddy transplantation gaining pace over the next 2-3 weeks was expected to push up the energy demand further, Mr. Mittal said. The intra-day peak demand was over 15,000 MW on three days, over 14,000 MW on one day and over 13,000 MW on seven days as on July 27 this year.
